Ten senators and 15 members of the House of Representatives are reportedly hospitalised in private hospitals having tested positive to coronavirus.
The names of those affected and their places of treatment are kept top secret but they were believed to have arrived the country from various overseas trips in the past two weeks.
The large number of victims among lawmakers had prompted the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari to warn on the dangers of refusal by lawmakers to submit for screening at the airports.
In a letter to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Kyari said the Minister of Health reported to this office that some members of the House of Representatives are refusing to subject themselves to medical screening at airports.
He emphasised that the airport screenings are “primary line of defense and refusal by any citizen to subject to these tests is a treat to our nation.”
Kyari urged the Speaker to direct “all members of the House of Representatives who returned to Nigeria from foreign trips to report themselves to the nearest NCDC test centre with immediate effect.”
