The lawmaker representing Nnewi-North state constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Nonso Okafor has stated that the forthcoming governorship election is not a do-or-die affair and that he is not in the race to challenge anybody but to prove his mettle if elected the next governor of Anambra state.

Okafor stated this at the NUJ secretariat Awka while presenting his workplan to journalists and seeking their collaboration and partnership to ensure that his aspiration to become the next governor comes to fruition.

He explained that the present state government has done tremendously well but he is coming with a new direction to governance and administration in Anambra state.

The lawmaker said he was not afraid of his co-aspirants in the All Progressives Grand Alliance and other political parties but his courage stems from the fact that he was not too young to run for the office of the governor because he believes that the time has come for a smart agenda to be implemented in the state.
He said he does not believe in the politics of attack and character assassination but believes that aspirants should market their ideas and manifestoes to Ndi-Anambra; telling them what they would do differently if elected into office.

He also suggested that if practicable, the Anambra Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists should organise a debate for all the aspirants before the primary elections so they can tell the citizens why they want to govern the state.

Okafor however corrected an erroneous impression that he was allegedly hired by some financial heavyweights in Nnewi to thwart Professor Soludo’s chances of getting APGA ticket, saying that such was arrant falsehood because they were both speaking to delegates of the party and that the delegates would decide fate of aspirants at the primaries.

The lawmaker also reiterated that he was not contesting in the November 6 governorship election because he was too young but because he was fully prepared to undertake the onerous task of a roadmap to a new and more virile economy for Anambra state.
