The Academic Staff Union of Universities has directed its affiliate member unions to proceed on an indefinite strike beginning from today, Monday.

A former chairman of the University of Abuja chapter, Ben Ugheoke, confirmed this in a telephone interview with TVC News.

He said the strike became inevitable following government’s stance that all agreements reached at the last negotiating meeting were predicated on the union members enrolling for the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS.

This directive comes as government shuts all schools, including universities, to curtail the spread of the deadly Corona virus.
