Suspected herdsmen in the early hours of today, reportedly invaded a farm settlement in Uzo-Uwani Local Government of Enugu State and so many persons were injured.
The affected farm settlement is Obie Aku farm camp.
It was learnt that some of the victims were injured with machetes cuts all over their bodies.
A source hinted that the victims were rushed to the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, from where they were referred to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu.
As at Monday morning villagers were still searching for more victims around the camp.
Some of the victims include: Melly Nwodo from Umugwuocha Mgboko; Nnadi Arinze from umudikwu aloke Nua and Opia Apeh from Ogwurogwu in Uzouwani LGA.
Confirming the development, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesman in Enugu, said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident and called on the residents to remain calm.
Following an information received at Nimbo Police Division in the early hours of today, 26/07/2021, alleging that yet-to-be identified hoodlums attacked some persons in a location at Opanda Village in Nimbo Community of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Police Operatives attached to the Division raced to the Scene and found 3 young men with degrees of machete cuts. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the area is calm, whille the Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, psc, has ordered the conduct of thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. He also calls on residents of the area to remain calm and assist the Police with useful information, please.”
Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area , a border Community dominated by farmers have witnessed series of attack from herds since the Nimbo massacre of April 25, 2016.
Nimbo was invaded, and scores massacred by over 500 armed Fulani herdsmen.
