National Assembly Rejects ‘Restructuring’ Bill

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, rejected the call for the restructuring of the country.

At the plrnary session, the Senators also voted against the decentralization of powers from the federal to the states.

In an electronic voting process, 48 Senators voted against the devolution of power while 46 voted in in support of the planned restructuring.

75 of the lawmakers voted in favour of the submission of names of nominees for ministerial nominations thirty days after the President resumes office.

88 of the Senators also voted for Local Government autonomy.

82 lawmakers also voted for independent candidature that allows individuals vie for elections without being members of a political party.
