A serving United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has expressed deep concern over the abduction of 25 female students from the Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday, November 17.
Moore, who represents West Virginia’s 2nd District in the U.S. Congress, took to his verified X handle to request prayers from his supporters and Americans for the safety and freedom of the missing students, who were abducted by suspected bandits in yet another tragic security incident in northern Nigeria.
He also offered solemn condolences over the killing of the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who was reportedly murdered during the attack.
According to him, “Please join me in praying for the 25 girls who have been kidnapped and for the repose of the soul of their vice principal who was killed.”
While noting that more details were being expected, Moore emphasized that the incident happened in “a Christian enclave in Northern Nigeria,” raising fresh concerns over persistent narratives surrounding alleged persecution, targeted attacks, and religious-based violence across the region.
The U.S. lawmaker, who has consistently engaged in advocacy, inquiries, and commentary on reported human rights violations and religious persecution in Nigeria, insisted that authorities must respond more decisively to halt the tragic pattern of mass abductions and killings.

Reacting to the incident, the Federal Government of Nigeria has reassured citizens that immediate actions are underway to ensure the safe return of all abducted schoolgirls.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in an official statement issued shortly after the news broke, reaffirmed that the government stands firmly in solidarity with families, communities, and affected persons.
He explained that both security and intelligence agencies have been directed to locate, rescue, and safely return the schoolgirls, as well as ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted.
Idris further stressed that the Federal Government would not rest until the mission is achieved, adding that the protection of every Nigerian life remains non-negotiable.
This latest abduction once again mirrors the growing concerns over student kidnappings, rising insecurity, and attacks on educational institutions, particularly in northern Nigeria, rekindling national and international calls for stronger security frameworks, community protection, and long-term counter-terrorism solutions.
