According to Punch, A 15-year-old schoolgirl from Delta State, Emmanuella Monday, has accused her mother of attempting to exploit her for money by putting her in a dangerous situation. Emmanuella, a student at Triumphant School in Uvwie Local Government Area, claims her mother took her to a hotel to meet a man and left her there. The girl managed to escape when the man went to take a bath and sought refuge at a friend’s house.
Emmanuella stated that this wasn’t the first time her mother had taken her to meet strangers, and she expressed fear about returning home. After reporting the incident to her school, law enforcement and human rights groups were contacted. The school proprietress and a human rights activist have raised concern about the safety of the girl and a petition has been filed with the National Human Rights Commission to investigate the matter.
