Group Condemns Exploitation Of Parents In Missionary Institutions, Tasks Government On Building Model Schools

Failure of state governments in Biafraland to promote quality and affordable education in public schools have become sources of worry to a pro-Biafran group, Biafra De Facto Customary Government, BDFCG.

According to the group, public schools in Biafraland have suffered neglect and abandonment, and have become places where children of the poor are sent to be forgotten.
“The curriculum is outdated and irrelevant to the needs of students in the 21st century, and the reward system for teachers is ineffective”.

Lamenting the development in a statement issued by BDFCG Spokesperson, Prosper Odinga, the group insisted that Governors in Biafraland must now pay strict attention to this important sector by building model schools, and setting high standards and mandating public servants to enroll their children in public schools.
“That way, the competitive edge of private/missionary schools will be checked”.

BDFCG also charged “Biafracentric politicians” (politicians who are committed to improving the lives of Biafran people) to go into government to reform the education system, in order to bring solution to the problems of technology, housing, food, health, and inequality.
“The education system is currently on the concurrent list of the Nigerian Constitution, which means that both the federal and state governments have jurisdiction over it. BDFCG believes that the education system should be tailored to solve the problems of technology, housing, food, health, and inequality”.

It condemned corruption in the education system, including exploitation of struggling parents in most private and missionary schools; using imposition of customized books and other reading materials, and called for a revolutionary overhaul to save the generation of Biafran children.
“We have noted the exploitation of struggling parents in most private schools, including the imposition of customized books and other reading materials. This should be reviewed. It is also not acceptable for missionary schools to ask parents to pay for reading tables and chairs, something that should be provided by the school as part of its assets”.

The group said it will continue to advocate for Biafra ideology which will guarantee good governance, equity, fairness and justice.
