Chief Abia Onyike PDP Chieftain and Former Commissioner of Information has been allegedly abducted by the Ebubeagu of the Ebonyi State Government.
The incident occured this night along Water Works Road, Abakaliki Ebonyi State.
Sources close to him claim he is currently being giving the trademark “Ebubeagu mark” inside the Ebubeagu torture chamber in the old Government House, Abakaliki.
It would be recalled that Abia had been attacked sometime last year when he made appearances in some national Television and radio stations during which he criticized the Ebonyi State government of Engr David Umahi.
If Obiano can connect street lightening system throughout Anambra State though in unsustainable manners , why can’t Prof Soludo think of restoring public water system across Anambra State to ensure that farming is done on 24 months basis and ensure that the gap between the rich and poor is narrowed . A public water scheme can keep all the plumber in the state busy and productive with increase in purchasing power . Spending billions in road construction is good but we should accommodate other players in economic ecosystem . How do we achieve a smart city without electricity plan ,drainage plan ,public pipe- borne water plan ,residential and commercial housing plans ,industrial and agricultural plans, farm settlements plans that the public will see .
We have not seen regional plan as envisioned by Ohanaeze through Prof Soludo technical Committee. Time is ticking and Prof Soludo has no time . SA on business incubation should act fast to begin to give hope to thousands of young people looking for job including depressed households .
We have not seen stimulus packages to cushion the effect of dwindling value of naira . Fix income earners are the most hit during this economic crisis period ! How do Government make civil servants productive and increase their purchasing power to intervene in market dislocations? How do Government intervene in abnormal increase in food materials ! Is there a plan to set marketing and pricing board. The responsibility of any Government is to organize the market and ensure that the weak is not exploited unduly while protecting the interest of the rich.
GGM expects Prof Soludo to use his wealth of experience in Nation building to intervene in this period of economic crisis . Anambra State has started receiving crude oil loyalty ,there should be a way to inject billions into the system as billions are being injected into road construction. Credible Cooperative Societies can be organised to participate in different agricultural value chains that will guarantee return on investment in short terms . Low cost housing scheme could be initiated as intervention program in high cost housing market.
And lot more…..
GGM loves you and will always hold Government accountable .
Good Governance Ministry,a political Ministry has thrown her weight behind Prof Soludo Government for unbundling the Ministry of Commerce and Industry . In the new arrangement, issues relating to trade and commerce would now be domiciled in the Governor’s office while the Ministry of Industry will now be supervised by a Commissioner.
GGM ,however advises the Government to put measures in place to harness abundant human resources in the State as well as attracting international funding and grants that will provoke industrialization.GGM decried the level of unemployment, underemployment and dwindling income level of households in the State . The quality of our education is not helping matters. Our schools specialize in training certificate tigers instead of using our education to solve our numerous problems facing us as a developing country.
GGM advocates for a synergy between our education and Industry starting from primary school level. We will not continue producing graduates with ‘beautiful’ certificates for unemployment market ,this is the time to produce people for our industries to begin to solve our domestic needs . GGM believes that a revolutionary mind like Prof Soludo can organize the market forces using public policies to achieve industrial revolution within the next four years .
The convoy of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was attacked in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday.
In a video seen on social media, a group of people were seen running in different directions as gunshots rend the air.
The presidential campaign trail of the opposition party landed in Borno, an All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled state, on Wednesday.
Our correspondent saw vandalised vehicles in the convoy of Atiku at Ramat Square in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Spokesman of the Atiku Campaign, Senator Dino Malaye, blamed the attack on the ruling party in Borno.
Melaye lamented that more than 70 people were hospitalised.
“They wanted to prevent us from doing holding the campaign, as we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalised.
“Several vehicles were vandalised by APC thugs.”
The APC is yet to react to Melaye’s allegation as of the time of filing this report.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday reacted to the tirades against him by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Atiku said it’s uncivil for Ortom to blame him for the armed Fulani attacks on the people of Benue State.
The PDP presidential candidate insisted that Benue is his home.
Ortom had vowed never to support Atiku’s presidential ambition due to the killings in Benue State.
Stressing that to “hell with Atiku,” the governor said he couldn’t support a Fulani man due to herders’ attacks on residents of the state.
Reacting, Atiku said the governor is entitled to support any candidate of his choice in 2023.
He spoke through the spokesperson of his presidential campaign team, Dino Melaye.
Appearing on Arise TV, Melaye said: “Ortom is entitled by right to support whichever candidate he wants; it’s not proper to place the blame of what is happening in Benue on Atiku; it is not fair. During the Shagari administration, he appointed four Benue indigenes as ministers, also the late Yar’Adua appointed a Benue indigene as AGF. These two presidents are Fulani by ethnicity, yet they appointed Benue citizens.”
Melaye avowed: “It’s uncivil to blame Fulani activities on Atiku, this is not right and not proper.”
He noted further: “In February this year, Atiku donated N50 million to IDPs; he shows love to the people of the state. Benue is a second home to Atiku.”
Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the unbundling and renaming of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The approval was said to have been given at the state executive council meeting on Monday.
A statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu on Tuesday said: “The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Obinna Ngonadi will henceforth be addressed as the Commissioner for Industry.
“Executive Council Meeting of the State Government, approved the renaming of the Ministry yesterday.”
He said the decision was to enable the Ministry of Industry focus on the industrialization agenda of the Governor, and for greater performance, without bothering about trade and commerce, which used to be part of the ministry.
This is as trade and commerce aspect of the ministry will now be domiciled under the Governor’s Office.
Chukwulobelu said: “By implication, all activities relating to trade and commerce should be channeled to the Governor’s Office. This reorganization is with immediate effect.”
Some documents said to have indicted the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, on drug dealings and money laundering in the United States have resurfaced with reports that they were released by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
The trending documents revealed details about Tinubu’s alleged indictment in drug deals and receipt of illegal money while in the U.S.
The 56-page document released by the district court’s headquarters confirmed the long-held view that Tinubu faced conviction on narcotics charges in the US especially with the revelation that he forfeited up to $460,000 to the U.S. authorities in 1993, reports Peoples Gazette.
Tinubu has denied any wrongdoing and his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, blamed the media for “recycling the news even when it’s nothing new.
Bayo said “it’s dead as dodo (roasted plantain) wondering why you journalists will continue to do the story.
“It resurfaced before the primary (presidential) and now again. It is nothing new. It’s dead. It’s as dead as a dodo,” he said.
However, the fresh allegation especially the release of the complete documents to the public may further put pressure on Tinubu, who was Lagos State Governor for eight years to come clean on his alleged narcotic dealings and indictment for money laundering.
Although he was never convicted as he did not re-enter the US, the certified copies of the court case, which were released on August 10, revealed Tinubu and two others simply named as K.O. Tinubu and Alhaji Mogati were involved in banking proceeds of illicit drugs and money laundering with Heritage Bank and Citibank, all in the US.
The personality of who Alhaji Mogati remains shrouded as no trace could easily be made to such a person close to Tinubu except that Tinubu’s foster mother was known as Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.
Tinubu who was resident in the US when these offences were committed returned to Nigeria and made his way into the upper political class in Nigeria to emerge as Lagos State Governor in 1999 to 2007.
However, his refusal to return to the US when the court case was held reportedly led to huge forfeiture of $460,000 in the Citibank account in the US.
The US authority never applied to Nigeria for his extradition, THE WHISTLER findings showed.
However, this paper gathered that since his accomplices in the US entered into a plea bargain to avoid a long drawn court case, the former Lagos West Senator also enjoyed that privilege as all assets and money were seized on September 21, 1993.
An Abuja-based lawyer, Benson Agada, said that “Tinubu can still face charges in Nigeria and can still be disqualified if appropriate findings are made and the case is made in court by the Nigerian government but that’s difficult because it will be impossible politically.
“His party will be shooting itself in the leg to embark on such a venture except if the president is against him.
“But the evidence is clear that someone who was indicted like this, to have forfeited such a huge amount of money can stand trial.
“If he had remained in the US, he would have been convicted. And plea bargain is an evidence of guilt, an acceptance that you are guilty,” he said.
A Coalition of civil society organizations, operating under the aegis of Secure Nation-Builders, yesterday, commended members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (better known as Shi’ites) for establishing a political forum.
The Coalition described the Forum as a positive step towards getting organised in order to change the fate of the country in 2023, given the fact that they (Shi’ites) have the numbers.
This was contained in a statement co-signed on behalf of the civil society groups by Ameh Christopher (National Coordinator), Halima Bukar, Mabel Abraham, Dr. Augustine Michael, Comrade E.K Gowin, and Prof. H.B Balarabe.
The Coalition, however, urged the Shi’ites under the supreme leaders of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky to withhold support for candidates with bad records in human right protection, economic development and security provision.
The statement reads in part, “At this point, we will like to acknowledge the recent development coming from the Islamic movement in Nigeria with Shia majority adherents for creating a Political Forum.
With their solid structure, such a mass movement of millions of people have the capacity to change the equation of the Nigerian political activities as truthfulness, dedication, courage are among their characters.
“We believe that unity of the people is the foundation of every nation’s development as it fosters good governance, equality, selfless service and collaboration for the common good of all the people of Nigeria.
“There is the need for us to decide on a set of standard values that we will live by and nurture for many generations to come.
Having weak governing institutions where people largely and inappropriately rely on sub-optimal indices such as ethnic affiliation, religious links and family ties in the creation, allocation and distribution of resources and values, a country is bound to face disastrous challenges.
“In conclusion, we are calling on the Political Forum of the Islamic movement not to support any particular person or party with a bad human right record, bad economic record and bad security record.”
