Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as the country’s new Minister of Defence, following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
General Musa, 58, is a highly decorated and experienced military leader with a distinguished career spanning over three decades. He served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025 and has held several key positions, including Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai and Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.
The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Senate and is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and address the country’s worsening insecurity.
