A newly born baby boy has been rescued from a pit toilet in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State; three days after birth.

The incident, which happened on Sunday, was said to be a deliberate act of a 20-year old Chidimma Nwaedoka from Izzi, Ebonyi state.

According to one Mrs Esther Omesi, a farmer and a friend to the Chidimma, she asked Chidinma to stay at her place for few days because of a farming job she got, but Chidimma started acting suspiciously on Sunday after she informed her(Esther) that she’s having stomach upset and went to the pit to ease her self.

According to Mrs Omesi, Chidimma took time in the toilet, and when she came out, was dripping of blood which made her to call a nurse that inspected her and revealed that the baby is gone. She said that she thought that Chidinma had a still birth reason why she encouraged her to travel home to her parents and notify them of the development.

Mrs Omesi revealed that they heard a baby’s cry on Tuesday morning and quickly used a ladder to rescued the new born who was dumped by the mother on Sunday after which they notified the necessary authority.

When the attention of the Honourable Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare was called to the incident by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, she quickly intervened by taking the new born to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka for treatment and arrested the culprit.

Hon Ify Obinabo decried the rate at which young girls now commit crime and stated that the young mother won’t go unpunished.

She further noted that Governor Soludo has zero tolerance for such inhumane and dastardly act, and promised to see to the end of the case.
