Court Declare Bandits as Terrorists – Ask FG to Do Same

A federal high court in Abuja has declared the activities of Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda bandit groups as acts of terrorism.

Taiwo Taiwo, presiding judge, gave the order on an ex parte motion filed by the federal government.

Mohammed Abubakar, director of public prosecution (DPP) at the federal ministry of justice, who filed the motion ex-parte, said President Muhammadu Buhari gave approval for his action, of which objective is the proscription of Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups and other terrorist groups in the country.

In its supporting affidavits, the federal government said security reports have confirmed that the bandit groups were responsible for the killings, abductions, rapes, kidnappings and related acts of criminality in the north-east, north-central and other parts of the country.

It alleged that the group is responsible for the growing cases of “banditry, incessant kidnappings for ransom, kidnapping for marriage, mass abductions of school children and other citizens, cattle rustling, enslavement, imprisonment, severe deprivation of physical liberty, torture, rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, other forms of sexual violence, attacks and killings in communities and commuters and wanton destruction of lives and properties in Nigeria, particularly in the Northwest and Northcentral states in Nigeria are being carried out by Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups and other groups associated with or engaged in the same or similar activities as Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups in Nigeria.

The activities of Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda groups and other similar groups constitute acts of terrorism that can lead to a breakdown of public order and safety and is a threat to national security and the corporate existence of Nigeria,” the government added.

Delivering ruling on Thursday, the court specifically declared the activities of the “Yan Bindiga group” and the “Yan Ta’adda group” and other similar groups in any part of the country, especially in the north-west and the north-central as “acts of terrorism and illegality”.

The court proscribed the activities of the group as well as other similar groups in any part of Nigeria, “either in groups or as individuals by whatever names they are called”.
The judge also made an order restraining “any person or group of persons from participating in any manner whatsoever, in any form of activities involving or concerning the prosecution of the collective intention or otherwise of the Yan Bindiga group and the Yan Ta’adda group under any other name or platform however called or described”.

The court asked the federal government to publish the proscription order in the official gazette and two national dailies.

Lawyer who Sued Celebrities During EndSars Murdered in Anambra

Human rights activist and lawyer, Kenechukwu Okeke has reportedly been murdered in Anambra state.

His family made the disclosure to Daily Post on Thursday, stating that Okeke was allegedly macheted by his attackers numbering seven in his compound and a keg of fuel poured on him before he was lit up and left to burn to death.

The controversial activist had filed criminal complaints before a magistrate court in Abuja against 50 persons over their alleged involvement in #EndSARS protests last year.

Some of the persons listed in the suit include Nigerian football star, Kanu Nwankwo, musicians’ Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, Innocent Idibia aka Tubaba, and David Adeleke better known as Davido.

Daily Post reports that Okeke was killed in Nkpor, near Onitsha, Anambra State, in the presence of his wife, Mrs Blessing Odinakachi Okeke and his little daughter.

Okeke’s wife was quoted as saying; “Kenechukwu Okeke was killed by his tenant.

”The Tenant, Chiadiobi, was living in our house, but when he packed out without our knowledge and asked to be given two months of his rent that he left, we told him he should have notified us that he was packing out.

“My husband was not around the day he came but I told him he packed out of the house without our knowledge and should not be given back any money. He threatened to deal with us, saying he will teach my husband a lesson. I called my husband and told him what the boy said and that he should not come to confront him, since they say he is a bad boy.

My husband later reported the matter to the DSS and to the police, and he was made to write an undertaking, but he was still coming to terrorize us. Sometimes he will come to our house and break open the gate and come in and pick whatever he wants to pick.

“One day, he came to our house and my husband confronted him, without knowing that he had many boys with him downstairs, and before my husband could do anything, they macheted him, and the fuel we wanted to pour into our gen, they poured it on him and lit him up, and that was how my husband died.

“That day was Sunday and not everyone was around, and the few people around tried to quench the fire and also stop it from burning our house, and later we took him to hospital in Enugu, and that was how he died.”

Mrs Okeke lamented that since after her husband’s death in October, the family has been left alone with the burden of catering for his burial, just as no mention or quest by any organisation to take up his matter has been heard of.

She said what was more heart-rending was that her husband’s killer; Chiadiobi, is still in the neighbourhood, bragging about having dealt with Okeke, while also confronting her husband’s aged mum.

“He even recently confronted my husband’s mother, warning her that he heard that she is taking the matter up, and was warning her to be careful. The boy is still free, going around and without remorse, and we are just left alone to do the arrangements of the burial.

“Up till now, he has not been arrested, even though we took him to police and DSS, and he was made to write an undertaking that he will not disturb us again, but he has finally killed him. I’m not even understanding the police on this matter. I’m confused. The boy is behaving like he is untouchable, and everyone is saying that he is a bad boy and we should be careful. We live in Nkpor, near Onitsha, Tarzan junction.”

Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenganyia, when contacted by Daily Post, said that the police is aware of the matter.

It is a reported case, but for now I can tell you that the matter is still sketchy. Just give me some time, I will get back to you with the full details of the matter,” he said.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzima Gets One Year Jail Term

Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzima, has been found guilty of being complicit in attempted rape blackmail and handed a one-year suspended prison sentence and an $84,000 fine.

A French Court gave the judgement on Wednesday after Benzema was found to be complicit in a bid to blackmail his former France team-mate, Mathieu Valbuena, with a sex tape.

Benzema’s lawyer has said he is going to appeal the decision. “It was clearly shown by the tribunal that Karim Benzema wasn’t aware of any plans beforehand. We’re quite stunned by this judgement. It requires appeal. He’ll be found innocent upon appeal.”

The sentence was tougher than that sought by prosecutors against the 33-year-old star over the 2015 extortion attempt, which led Benzema to be cast out of the France team for five-and-a-half years.

Benzema was not in court in the Paris suburb of Versailles for the verdict, which comes hours before Real Madrid take on Sheriff Tiraspol in a Champions League game in Moldova.

He was not accused of being behind the extortion attempt but rather of conspiring with the suspected blackmailers by putting pressure on Valbuena to pay them off.

The court ruled that he had “implicated himself personally, through subterfuge and lies, to convince his team-mate to submit to the blackmail.”

It added that he had shown “no kindness towards Valbuena”, as he had claimed, “just the opposite” and had even appeared to take pleasure in his fellow player’s demise.

Speaking to reporters at the courthouse, one of his lawyers, Sylvain Cormier, said he was “stunned” by the sentence which he called “very severe, unfair and unfounded.

Buhari Led Administration has Done More for Igbos than PDP- Kenneth Okonkwo

Popular Nollywood Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has done more for Ndigbo Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress, APC, than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

IGBERE TV recalls that the veteran Nollywood Actor had contested for governor of Enugu State in the 2019 election but failed.

In a post on his official Instagram page, on Tuesday, Okonkwo cried out over the operation of Fulani Herdsmen in Abuja.

He said :

“This is why ranching is both desirable and inevitable. How can humans and animals be struggling for a right of way in the Federal Capital City of Abuja?” the actor had asked.

“We must move on to the 21st-century system of animal husbandry to reduce tensions between passers-by, commuters, farmers, and herdsmen.”

A critic replied at the actor, putting it to him that he had campaigned for Buhari-led administration.

In his reply, Okonkwo stated that he is still proud to have campaigned “relentlessly” and supported Buhari’s government.

“Yes, I did and I stand by my decision. When I see that the second niger bridge is about to be completed. When I see that runway at Enugu Airport has been expanded to accommodate international flights,” the actor added.

When I see that Enugu-PH express roads are being rehabilitated, when I remember all other things Buhari had done for the South East and remember that PDP was there for 16 years and did nothing for us.

“I am proud of the decision I took and I have no apologies for that. Nothing changed.

“I have been a strong advocate of ranching from day one. Just check through my antecedents. I support the truth at all times. I joined politics for the good of the people and will support good policies irrespective of party affiliation.”

Igbos Treated as Second Class Citizens – Nwodo Cries Out

JuThe immediate past President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has accused the federal government of Nigeria of treating the Igbo race as second class citizens,

Nwodo who made the allegation while delivering a paper on: “Nigeria’s Political and Economic Future – the Dangers We Can Avert”, lamented the exclusion of the Igbo race in the security architecture of the country as well as other sensitive and strategic public positions.

His words: ” We are grossly marginalised and treated by the federal government as second class citizens. No Igbo man, for instance, heads any security arm of the Nigeria Armed Forces.

” Our area is the most heavily policed as if there was a deliberate policy to intimidate us and hold us down.

” The brazen impunity in dealing with matters which concern the South East is provocative.”

” We invest and contribute to the economic and social life of the communities where ever we live. We are proudly Christians but very accommodating of our brothers of other persuasions.”

The former Information  Minister regretted that the militarization of the South-East zone and the high-handedness of the federal government in dealing with the zone were the reason for the growing disenchantment among youths in the zone.

” This current approach makes it impossible for leaders in the South East to effectively contain the anger of their youths”.

He said that despite Nigeria’s harshness and unfriendly disposition towards Ndigbo, the race remains the most accommodating and enterprising and religious-tolerant tribe in the country.

” We are the largest ethnic group other than the Indigenous tribe in any part of Nigeria. We invest and contribute to the economic and social life of the communities where ever we live. We are proudly Christians but very accommodating of our brothers of other persuasions”, Nwodo contended

Bandits kills Zamfara Governorship Aspirant, Abducts Police Orderly and Travelers

Sagir Hamida, brother of the politician killed by suspected armed bandits on Sunday on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, has narrated how the incident happened.

Mr Hamida, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a governorship aspirant in Zamfara in 2015 and 2019. He was shot dead at Rijana on the Kaduna-Abuja highway late Sunday

Mr Hamida, who held the traditional title of ‘Sarkin Rafin Gusau,’ had retired as a director at Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) before joining politics.

He was also the proprietor of FAMAKS British Schools in Abuja and Kaduna.

His brother, Surajo Hamida, told reporters in Kaduna that the police orderly of the politician was among dozens of persons abducted by the bandits on the highway in that incident.

He said his brother was shot on the chest and leg while his driver escaped unhurt.

The politician was hit by the bandit’s bullets after his driver hastily made a U-turn to escape a blockade by the bandits. Unknown to the travelers, the area was entirely fortified by the bandits, Mr Hamida narrated.

In the process, he said the bandits opened fire on the vehicle, leading to the death of the politician.

Many travelers were reported to have been abducted in operations on the troubled highway.

The phone contact of Kaduna police spokesperson, Muhammad Jalige, did not connect Monday morning for his comment on the incident.

However, the governor of Zamfara, Bello Matatwalle, said he had received news of Mr Hamidu’s killing with shock.

The governor’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, in a statement said the deceased was one of the promising politicians in the state.

The governor said the deceased had a good vision for the enhancement of self-reliance, especially among the youth.

“Sagir Hamida will be remembered for his various contributions to the political and socio-economic growth of the state where he left a wide gap that will be difficult to fill.

“Death is inevitable but losing a worthy son like Sagir Hamida is a great loss and very painful and his contribution will remain indelible in the minds of the people of the state.

“The governor also extended his heartfelt condolences to Gusau emirate Council, his immediate family, the good people and government of Zamfara and prayed to Allah to give them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” the statement said.
