Amidst hurdles, APGA picks Anambra guber candidate today

The Oye-led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, will, today, elect its standard bearer for the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra state.

A notice from the party advised members to converge at the Ekwueme Square, Awka, the state capital, today, Wednesday, June 23. Members were required, in the notice, to attend the primary election in their party uniform and membership cards.

It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had, in a reply to enquiries seeking to know whether the electoral umpire was notified about the party’s Congress, in line with the 21-day notice required by Section 85 of the Electoral Act, denied receiving any such notification.

In one of the letters, the commission addressed its position to the principal counsel of a law firm, Omas and Partners, who had, earlier, written and asked for the information while relying on the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

The letter dated June 18, 2021 had read, “This is to inform you that the Commission did not receive the statutory 21 days’ notice for the nomination of APGA Anambra State governorship candidate from Victor Oye led APGA.

“Accordingly, the commission did not monitor the said ward congress and as such, there is no monitoring report of the Commission.”

The second letter, which was addressed to the national chairman of APGA also read, “Please refer to your letter dated June 16, 2021 forwarding the list of delegates for the nomination of APGA’s Governorship Candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.

“This is to notify you that the records of the Commission indicate that APGA did not duly notify the Commission of the date of the Congress where the ad hoc delegates were elected, as required by Section 85 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended).

“Accordingly, the Commission is unable to confirm if the Ad hoc Delegates list submitted by your party is the outcome of a democratic process, as required by Section 87(7) of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended).

“The Commission wishes to emphasise the need for full compliance with all legal requirements for the conduct of Party Primaries as earlier communicated in the Commission’s letter to your Party dated 37 June 2021 (REF: INEC/DEPM/UPPM/119/1/37).”

Orient Daily had reported that the two letters by INEC could, therefore, render the Oye-led APGA governorship primary today an exercise in futility as the use of invalid delegate’s list will exclude the party from the election.

It had also been reported that another faction of the party, led by Jude Okeke, had accused the suspended Oye group of deliberate refusal to submit 21 days’ notice for his faction to the commission.

Oye was further accused of having a senatorial ticket deal with those described as enemies of the party with a promise to help use technicalities to exclude APGA from the ballot.

The publicity secretary of the Okeke faction, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, in his reaction, had said the faction remained the only option and hope for the party to field a candidate in Anambra since he duly submitted all the notices.

Chukwunyere said, “We are aware of the position of INEC on this matter. As disheartening as it is, there is still hope for the party. Although the Oye faction had missed the issuance of statutory notice, all hope is not lost if the party backs the Okeke faction. This is because the Okeke faction has served all valid notices for the APGA primary in Anambra. It is important to join hands with the faction now if the party must take part in the election.”

APGA state secretary, Barr. Tony Ifeanya, who, when contacted on telephone, had said he was still studying the development, had insisted that the struggles in the party would not derail the primary election of the party scheduled for (today), Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

He said the leader of the other faction, Jude Okeke, was a total stranger to the party and had no right to take the chairmanship position against the constitution of the party.

“Jude Okeke is not a member of APGA in any way. He is a stranger and not even a member of the national working committee.

“Our constitution has a way of removing the national chairman. How can he jump to become the national chairman? It is only by national convention which must be convened by the national chairman.”

On what the party was doing on the matter, Ifeanya said the party would find a way to correct the present issue, insisting that the development would not affect the party’s primary.

Party insiders disclosed to our political desk that the other two factions which have emerged in the party and led by Chief Dozie Njoku and Barr. Jude Okeke, respectively also plan to hold parallel primaries.

The source who declined to be mentioned in print claimed, “When the Oye group is done with their own primaries tomorrow (today, Wednesday June 23), others will have theirs too. The Njoku faction will hold theirs on June 25 while the Okeke group is planning theirs for July 1. Let’s see whose primaries will be accepted by INEC,” the source concluded.

Meanwhile, the party’s screening committee, sitting in Abuja, had, yesterday, dismissed the appeals of all the five disqualified aspirants seeking to reverse their disqualification and allow them participate in today’s primaries.

A letter, detailing the decision of the appeal panel on the five appellants and signed by secretary of the committee, Barr. Shodeinde Emmanuel, said the aspirants, Ifeanyi Ozoka, Nonso Okafor, Akachukwu Nwankpo, Chukwuma Umeoji and Carter Umuoduagu stood disqualified.

The committee said the reasons for disqualifying them still stood.

A sample of such reasons was cited thus: “The result of the 3-man Governorship Screening Committee and the publication of same is in compliance with Article 9 of the APGA Electoral Guidelines for Anambra State Governorship Primary Election 2021. From the available documents before the Screening Appeal panel, the membership status of the Appellant is indeed less than 18 months as captured by the Governorship Screening committee.”

Breaking: APGA Not to Participate in The Coming Anambra Election

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been reportedly ruled out in forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

This development is hinged on the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that a faction of the party led by Victor Oye did not duly notify it of the plan to hold ward congresses ahead of the governorship poll within the 21 days recommended by its regulations and Section 85 of the Electoral Act.

INEC has communicated its position on the matter to the faction in two separate letters.

In one of the letters seen by IGBERE TV, the commission addressed its position to the principal counsel of a law firm, Omas and Partners, who had earlier written and asked for the information while relying on the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

The letter dated June 18, 2021 read, “This is to inform you that the commission did not receive the statutory 21 days’ notice for the nomination of APGA Anambra State governorship candidate from Victor Oye led APGA.

“Accordingly, the commission did not monitor the said ward congress and as such, there is no monitoring report of the Commission.”

The second letter which was addressed to the National Chairman of APGA also read, “Please refer to your letter dated June 16, 2021 forwarding the list of delegates for the nomination of APGA’s Governorship Candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.

“This is to notify you that the records of the Commission indicates that APGA did not duly notify the Commission of the date of the Congress where the ad hoc delegates were elected as required by Section 85 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended)

“Accordingly the Commission is unable to confirm if the Ad hoc Delegates list submitted by your party is the outcome of a democratic process as required by Section 87(7) of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended).

“The Commission wishes to emphasize the need for full compliance with all legal requirements for the conduct of Party Primaries as earlier communicated in the Commissions letter to your Party dated 3rd June 2021 (REF: INEC/DEPM/UPPM/119/1/37).”

The two letters by INEC have therefore rendered APGA’s Wednesday governorship primary an exercise in futility as the use of invalid delegate list will exclude the party from the election.

Meanwhile, the Jude Okeke-led APGA has accused suspended Oye of deliberate refusal to submit 21 days’ notice for his faction to tje commission after allegedly collecting $2m.

Oye was further accused of sealing a Senatorial ticket deal with those described as enemies of the party with a promise to help use technicalities to exclude APGA from the ballot.

The Publicity Secretary of the Okeke faction, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, in his reaction, said the faction remains the only option and hope for APGA to have a candidate in Anambra since he dully submitted all the notices.

Chukwunyere said, “We are aware of the position of INEC on this matter.

“As disheartening as it is, there is still hope for the party.

“Although the Oye faction had missed the issuance of statutory notice, all hope is not lost if the party backs the Okeke faction.

“This is because the Okeke faction has served all valid notices for the APGA primary in Anambra.

“It is important to join hands with the factiom now if the party must take part in the election.”

Kingsley Moghalu Gets Senator Abaribe Endorsement

A former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has disclosed that Senate Minority Leader, Eyinnaya Abaribe has endorsed his 2023 presidential ambition.

Moghalu disclosed that Abaribe endorsed and supported his presidential ambition during a function of Igbo socio-cultural organization.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Deputy Governor disclosed this in a series of tweets, on Monday.

According to Abaribe: “Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has just announced his complete support and endorsement for me to become President of Nigeria in 2023, at the inauguration of Igbonine sociocultural organization happening live now in Enugu. Thank you, my Distinguished brother, Enyi!

“I’m not waiting for Nigeria or its “system” to become perfect before I offer myself for service as its President.

“That’s not leadership, it would be cowardice! Leaders MOVE and take on challenges! No restructuring yet? No problem. We will get it done where others did not.”

Moghalu had contested for the presidency in 2015 under the YPP.

AskingFor Restructure Nigeria Is Calling For War — Buhari

By saying those asking for restructuring are “ignorant of war,” President Buhari insinuates that the call could lead to another armed conflict like Nigeria’s first civil war.

The Muhammadu Buhari has warned secessionists to cease their agitation, saying Nigeria is a dominant force in West Africa.

The Executive Secretary, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mohammed Bello Shehu, represented Buhari at an occasion on Saturday where he made the comments on the president’s behalf.

Buhari, via Shehu, warned that those agitating for separation are naive and ignorant of war.

According to Daily Post, Buhari said that the nation is not restructuring, adding that most people carrying the subject do not even understand what they are talking about.

“And again, those who are discussing restructuring, my question is what are you going to restructure?” Buhari asked.

“If you ask many Nigerians what are they going to restructure, you will find out that they have nothing to talk about. Some of them have not even studied the 1999 constitution. The 1999 constitution is almost 70 to 80 percent 1979 constitution.

“The other issue is that those who are calling for restructuring and conference on what they call ethnic nationality, if you go to Southern Kaduna, Taraba, who is to represent them? We have different combinations of ethnicities in many states. Even Kano and Kaduna Igbo have properties. The same goes with Yorubas.

“There are Fulani in Port Harcourt. So those calling for separation or restructuring, some of them I will say are very naive or even mischievously dangerous. Those agitating for restructuring are ignorant of war and its consequences because Nigeria is a dominant force in west Africa.

“There is no government in the world that will cede their authority to the people that are not elected.

“You are telling us to resolve a system and call for an obscure conference to come and discuss how we can move forward as a nation, that can never be done and no country will agree to that.

“So those who are doing that should go back and meet their representatives in the House of Assembly and ask for whatever amendment of the constitution. Due process should be followed.”

Shehu gave the address during the launch of the Kudirat Abiola Sabon Gari, Zaria Peace Foundation which took place at Ahmadu Bello University Hotels, Zaria, Kaduna state.

Buhari was the Special Guest of Honour. Shehu spoke on his behalf.

History 101: Brief Narration of the Col. Timothy Onwuatuegwu

The man Timothy Onwuatuegwu, is an indigenous son of Igbo Land.

Before his death, had his allegiance to Nigeria, between 1961-1966 and to Biafra between 1967-1970.

Colonel Onwuatuegwu didn’t see much action until Operation OAU in 1968 when he and Biafran Colonel E.A. Eutuk were put in charge of defending Owerri, Umuahia, and Aba. Onwuatuegwu fought against the forces of Nigerian General Benjamin Adekunle in May 1968 but lost the city to Murtala Muhammad’s men on August 28, 1968. On July 18, 1968 Onwuatuegwu was able to capture the city of Umuahia from Benjamin Adekunle after many days of heavy fighting. On April 21, 1969 Onwuatuegwu assisted E.A. Eutuk’s soldiers during the Defense of Umuahia in which Onwuatuegwu was able to drive off all Nigerian forces within a day of fighting

Col Tim Onwuatuegwu and the Biafran S. Brigade was about the most dreaded Biafran Army Unit. They liberated many Biafran cities from the Nigeria forces and fought till the immediate fall of Biafra.

The S. Brigade had three battalions headed by newly promoted Major Archibong, Major Atumaka and Major Okoi, under the leadership of the newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Onwuatuegwu, who was later promoted to the Colonel, within a month of the formation of the S. Brigade, due to the achievements of the brigade. Onwuatuegwu’s 2nd Battalion had been disbanded before the fall of Opi Junction by the saboteurs at the Biafran Army Headquarters, as they could not eliminate him.

Onwuatuegwu, Archibong (3rd Battalion), Atumaka (2nd Battalion), and Okoi (1st Battalion) of the S. Brigade formed the super four of the S. Brigade. The S.Brigade frustrated many efforts of the Nigerian forces to capture Enugu to the surprise of everyone. They held the federal forces in an urban warfare that stopped further advance. For months the relatively well equipped Nigerian army was pinned in Enugu by the S. Brigade. After months of formation of the S. Brigade, Col Onwuatuegwu formed the Biafran Ranger Regiment, under the command of Captain Matthias Nwadiegwu.

There are two accounts about Timothy

Onwuatuegwu’s death in days following the surrender. One account by his former co-conspirator Maj. Adewale Ademoyega states that he was tricked into attending a meeting at a hotel with federal officers of the 3rd Marine Commando Division. At this meeting, that was said to have occurred on January 15, he was summarily shot dead by vengeful officers personally aggrieved by the assassination of Brig. Ademulegun and his wife during the 1966 Nigerian coup d’état. An alternative account given by Col. Obasanjo states that during the process of surrender, Onwuatuegwu unsuccessfully attempted to ambush him near Amichi. After this he apparently made for the Cameroon border and was later killed in a firefight with Nigerian 1st Division soldiers. The truth about Maj. Onwuatuegwu’s death remains a mystery.

History 101: Who Is Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu

Major Chukwuman Nzeogwu was a young army officer who plotted the military coup of January 15, 1966 which led to the death of many senior Nigerians – The prime minister, a federal minister, two regional premiers and top army officers from were brutally murdered in the coup – He was killed during the Nigerian civil war, flown to Kaduna and was giving full military burial following the orders of the then military president, Yakubu Gowon.

The story of the Nigerian civil war cannot be completely told without the mention of the name, Major General Kaduna Chukwuma Nzeogwu. Reasons being that he is said to be the leading brain behind the first military coup in January 1966, leading to a counter-coup in June of the same year, the aftermath of which led to the secession of the Biafran territory and subsequent war. Patrick Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu hailed from the then Mid-western region town of Okpanam, near Asaba in the present day Anioma area of Delta state. He was born in 1937 in Kaduna, Kaduna state. He attended Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Kaduna for his elementary education and for his secondary education he attended the competitive Saint John’s College in Kaduna. In March 1957 after his secondary education, Nzeogwu enlisted as an officer-cadet in the Nigeria Regiment of the West African Frontier Force and proceeded on a 6-month preliminary training in Ghana, then Gold Coast.

He completed his training in Ghana by October 1957 and headed on to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst where he was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1959. He later underwent a platoon officer’s course in Hythe and a platoon commander’s course in Warminster.

Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu plotted the 1966 coup and died in ambush near Nsukka in 1967. After receiving all the trainings, he returned to Nigeria in May 1960 shortly before independence, and was posted to the 1st Battalion in Enugu where Major Aguiyi-Ironsi was the second-in-command under a British officer. He was later re-posted to the 5th Battalion in Kaduna, the land of his birth, where he became friends with Olusegun Obasanjo. His Hausa colleagues in the Nigerian army gave him the name Kaduna because of his affinity with the town. After serving in The Congo in 1961, Nzeogwu was assigned as a training officer at the Army Training Depot in Zaria for about 6 months before getting posted to Lagos to head the military intelligence section at the Army Headquarters where he was the first Nigerian officer. The forerunner of the Nigerian army intelligence corps (NAIC) was the field security section (FSS) of the Royal Nigerian army, which was established on 1 November 1962 essentially as a security organization whose functions included vetting of Nigerian army personnel, document security and counter intelligence. Major Nzeogwu was the first Nigerian officer to hold that appointment from November 1962 to 1964. As a military intelligence officer, he participated in the treasonable felony trial investigations of Obafemi Awolowo and other Action Group party members.

Nzeogwu was believed to have stepped on toes of army officers in his capacity as a military intelligence officer and even clashed with the minister of state for the army, Ibrahim Tako Galadima, also known as Galadima Bida. Consequently, he was posted to the Nigerian Military Training College in Kaduna where he became chief instructor. Lt-Col Patrick Anwunah described Nzeogwu as “a radical and an inwardly insubordinate young officer who was full of his own ideas and probably thought he had the answers to all problems. His statements and comments at that time gave me the impression that he could become insubordinate as he had no regard for senior officers” giving the impression that in his quest for what he perceived to be just, he did not give two thoughts about offending people. General Aguiyi Ironsi arrested Nzeogwu days after he took over power following the January 1966 coup. In the early hours of January 15, 1966, at the young age of 29, Nzeogwu led a group of soldiers on a pre-planned but secret military exercise to attack the official residence of the Premier of the North, Sir Ahmadu Bello in a bloody coup. The end of the coup saw the murder of Premiers of Northern and Western Nigeria.

The Prime minister, a federal minister, two regional premiers and top army officers from the northern and western regions of the nation were brutally murdered. The premier of the eastern region, the Igbo president of federation and the Igbo army chief were the only notable individuals spared. These factors led to the general conclusion that it was an Igbo coup. In his radio broadcast to announce the suspension of the democratic regime and civilian rule, he stated that their aim was to “establish a strong united and prosperous nation, free from corruption and internal strife” and described the collective enemies of the country which they were up against to include “the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent. “Those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they could remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds.

” Notably, he did promise in his speech that every law abiding citizen would enjoy all the basic freedoms especially freedom from fear of oppression. “We promise that you will no more be ashamed to say that you are a Nigerian,” he stated emphatically.  However, the officer who took over the administration of the country, General Aguiyi Ironsi, arrested Nzeogwu days after he assumed power while he was in the company of Lt. Col. Conrad Nwawo. This was not sufficient reasons for the Northerners to conclude that the coup might have been just Nzeogwu’s idea, as a counter coup still occurred months later, this time with countless Igbo civilians and military officers being brutally murdered. The ensuing crisis led to the secessionist move of the Biafran geographical entity on May 30, 1967, and consequently the civil war.

In an interview with Dennis Ejindu in 1967, Nzeogwu explained that the coup being perceived as one sided was because the people who had been stationed in the South with Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna in charge, grew cold feet at the eleventh hour. According to him: “We were five in number, and initially we knew quite clearly what we wanted to do. We had a short list of people who were either undesirable for the future progress of the country or who by their positions at the time had to be sacrificed for peace and stability of the nation. “Tribal considerations were completely out of our minds at this stage. But we had a set-back in the execution. Both of us in the North (himself and Major T. C. Onwuatuegwu) did our best. The Mid-west was never a big problem. But in the east, our major target, nothing practically was done. He (Ifeajuna) and the others let us down.

As revealed by Nzeogwu also in the same interview with Ejindu, there was no reason to be enthusiastic about secession. Shortly before the war, Nzeogwu was released from close observation by Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu, and asked to go into battle on the side of the Biafrans. On July 29, 1967, Nzeogwu, who had been promoted to the rank of a Biafran Lt. Colonel, was trapped in an ambush near Nsukka while conducting a night reconnaissance operation against federal troops of the 21st battalion under Captain Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi. He was killed in action and his corpse was subsequently identified by Lieutenant Abdullahi Shelleng who ordered that it should be stored firstly in the University of Nigeria campus at Nsukka. The corpse was later sent to 1 division headquarters in Makurdi where the 1 division commander, Colonel Mohammed Shuwa, informed the head of state Major-General Gowon. Despite the fact that Nzeogwu was now technically an enemy soldier killed in combat against the Nigerian army, Gowon ordered that Nzeogwu’s body be flown to Kaduna and buried with full military honours – even as the war raged on in the eastern region. He had been insistent that until a true federal system was worked out, a confederation could still work for Nigeria.

He was so hopeful about the country Nigeria that he not completely ruled out secession of any region as impossible. Such strong views on secession did not make him best of friends with Ojukwu as they rarely saw eye to eye on the issue. Relations between Ojukwu and Nzeogwu deteriorated further as Nzeogwu made no secret of his desire for a united Nigeria. Even though war between Nigeria and Biafra was imminent, in April 1967 Nzeogwu was suspended from all military activities by Ojukwu. The immediate pretext was Nzeogwu’s involvement in a battle simulation military training exercise in Abakaliki and other towns in the eastern region. Recalling that Nzeogwu had turned the night time training “Exercise Damissa” into a full blown coup the previous year, Ojukwu banned all such further exercises. Relations between Ojukwu and Nzeogwu got bad enough for Ojukwu to consider putting Nzeogwu back in prison. Writing a letter to his friend Olusegun Obasanjo on June 17, 1967, Nzeogwu confessed: “You have no doubt heard a lot of rumours about my relations with Ojukwu. We obviously see things quite differently after what he did to my supporters in January 1966.

I was to be put back in prison, Right now I am not allowed contact with troops nor am I permitted to operate on the staff. One gentleman’s agreement we have is that I can carry on with whatever pleases me.” Although Ojukwu gave Nzeogwu the Biafran rank of Brigadier, he was not given any formal command in the Biafran army. Frustrated at his exclusion from military duties, Nzeogwu took to informal ad hoc guerilla raids against the federal army. He would impulsively conscript other soldiers to join him during these raids. Nzeogwu was admired and feared in equal measure. He was admired for his intelligence, warmth and charm. He was feared because of his suicidal courage. Junior Biafran foot soldiers were reluctant to be conscripted by Nzeogwu. Conscription by Nzeogwu meant being taken to the front line and faced with grave danger. Nzeogwu was brave enough to cross behind enemy lines, carry out reconnaissance and engage the federal army in close quarter combat.

Even in death, Nzeogwu was still respected by federal and northern troops. Domkat Bali referred to him as “a nice, charismatic and disciplined officer, highly admired and respected by his colleagues. At least he was not in the habit of being found in the company of women all the time messing about with them in the officers mess, a pastime of many young officers then. We believed that he was a genuine patriotic officer who organised the 1966 coup with the best of intentions who was let down by his collaborators. “If we had captured him alive, he would not have been killed. I believe he probably would have been tried for his role in the January 15 coup, jailed and probably freed after some time. His death was regrettable.” Five decades after his death, there is still yet to be a consensus on whether he was a hero or felon.

APGA Crisis: I Am Still In Charge- Chief Victor Oye

The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP; Mr. Alkali Baba to arrest those people who went on air Tuesday in Abuja to convene illegal National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the party in fragrant violation of law.

Chief Oye, who was enraged by what he described their action as antic of political thugs, also charged the Director General Of Department of State service, DSS, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi and other sister security agencies to rise up to the occasion by bringing to justice those behind that calamitous statement that caused the country embarrassment.

The APGA chairman noted that this was a threat to Nigeria’s democracy where irresponsible people can wake up from their slumber, gather people, go on national television and pay to embarrass people.

He also, suggested that, “The way such illegality could be addressed is very simple; it can be addressed through the amendment of the electoral act where you have to put in measures, an inbuilt mechanism to stop such situations from taking place.”

According to him, “Now what happened yesterday (Tuesday) if not properly handled can give room to more serious national embarrassment.

“People would be bolder to go on national television once you can pay the fee, go on air and announce whatever you like then the social media would air it, you know things nowadays spread in seconds.

“What I believe could be done is to make the situation, the conditions much more strict, it shouldn’t be once you can pay the bill you would be aired; no! You have to scrutinize it.

“I know every TV station has a legal desk and when such an issue comes up you take it to the legal desk and take legal advice then they reach out to us in APGA ‘is there any conflict in your party?’ or you go to INEC to ascertain who is the rightful chairman of the party.

“It is not in contention; I and my executives were elected on the 31st of May, 2019 through a nationally recognized convention witnessed by INEC and since 2019 we have been doing our businesses without any hindrance but every four years people come up to cause confusion in the party.

“It is not peculiar to APGA alone, it is in every political party but it seems like APGA own is becoming very notorious now and this is one thing we have to stop and again the security agencies have a role to play in this situation.

“If anybody does anything that is illegal, against the law such a person should be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other people which is the proper thing to do.

“I call on the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS to arrest all the people involved in the charade of yesterday. That is the only way we can have further confidence in them.

“They must arrest those people and persecute them but what they did was a national embarrassment not only to APGA but to all Nigerians of good will.

“It has to be seriously addressed and I am also calling on Mr. President, this is a threat to Nigeria’s democracy where irresponsible people can wake up from their slumber, gather people, go on national television and pay to embarrass people.

“It has to be handled by Mr. President that is the call by APGA. All the security agencies must look into this matter and deal ruthlessly with those people that caused the nation this international embarrassment because it is all over the world now. People have been calling me from America, from Britain, all over the world ‘what is happening in Nigeria?”

Speaking on the fortune of the APGA, especially the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Chief Oye, said that the former APGA administration under Mr. Peter Obi has laid foundation for a new Anambra State.

According to him, “You see I like this question, it is all about the people and their welfare. Once you protect the interest of the people they will stick with you at all times. Since 2006 APGA came into power in Anambra and it has continued to deliver on its election promises year in, year out.

“Peter Obi came and performed superlatively, Obiano has come now and he is doing better all to the glory of God and the betterment of the people of Anambra state.

“Remember when PDP was in power in Anambra state, it set the state on fire, set the government house on fire, broadcasting service on fire, destroyed government property everywhere.

“There was no peace in Anambra state, armed robbery, banditry everywhere. Immediately Peter Obi came into power he started building infrastructures.

“I have said it and I will repeat it here; Peter Obi built the substructure you know in every structure there are two phases; the substructure which is the foundation and the superstructure which is anything above the foundation. Peter Obi came and built the substructure, the foundation for a new Anambra and Governor Obiano is building a superstructure.

“You know in every structure what you see is the superstructure you don’t see the foundation. That is why you see it seems all the accolades seem to be going to Governor Obiano who is the one building the things that people now see which is the superstructure.

“There is no political party in Nigeria that has enjoyed the popularity that APGA has enjoyed in Anambra state, in short all over Nigeria.
