Anambra 2021: Anambra Billionaires Gathering Money To Sponsor Stooges — Adinuba
Of “Dominant Parties” and the Lessons of History – Kingsley Moghalu
News of exploratory discussions for a breakaway third party from the US Republican Party should not be surprising. I foresaw the likely eventual breakup of the US Republican Party after it became “the party of Trump”, i.e. a personality cult, in recent years. If this happens, it will support my thesis that there is nothing inevitable about the PDP and APC in Nigeria.
I’ve always told those skeptical about the possibilities outside of these two Nigerian political platforms, who cite “the two party structure in America”, that they are comparing apples and oranges. The two parties in America are ideological. What’s the difference between APC and PDP?
Many politicians wake up inside PDP and go the bed in the APC, and vice versa. That’s very different from a 200 year old, largely ideological democracy. Even then, political parties in America mutated and evolved over decades. Even on issues such as slavery, the Republican party of Abraham Lincoln led the fight against slavery which resulted in the American Civil War, with Democrats resisting the abolition of slavery. Over the past 70 years, the two parties have switched roles on civil rights issues as arch-conservatives gained ascendancy in the Republican Party in the early 60s (Barry Goldwater & co) while President Lyndon Johnson (Democrat) got the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act passed. And now, there is a distinct possibility of a split in the Republican Party.
In Nigeria, the PDP was boasting in 2012 or so that it would rule Nigeria for 60 years. Within three years it had lost power to a new formation, the APC. From a one party-dominant polity to a two-party dominant one. As Nigerians progressively realize that these parties have strong “structures” that win elections but can’t govern us effectively, the reality on the ground can shift again ahead of or in 2023 with the way things are going in our country.
While I am not naively indifferent to the “advantages” the two parties currently have, the real issue is, or should be, whether Nigeria’s democracy is serving Nigerian citizens or whether it is serving only the politicians. I predict that this fundamental question will assume rising importance in the coming months. Absent true new blood as their faces to the electorate, the two parties will be progressively be weakened by their internal contradictions.
I am not one of those who have surrendered to the “conventional wisdom” of the deity status and inevitably of the APC and PDP. I am a student of history. We all should be.

The Eastern Rights and Intelligentsia Coalition had in the letter drawn the attention of the respected Ambassadors and High Commissioners to grievous rights abuses and violations perpetrated under the seal of, or by the immediate past Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Retired Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai and over 20 others including the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major Gen Ibrahim Attahiru. The respected envoys were also informed that the named perpetrators have severally been gravely and factually accused by respected local and international rights groups and other activists of being directly or vicariously involved in the referenced heinous crimes while in office between August 2015 and Jan 26, 2021. The envoys were also notified about attempts by the Government of Nigeria to ‘shield and protect’ some of the perpetrators from criminal prosecution or being locally and internationally held to account. This, the Nigerian Government has done by nominating them (Buratai, Olanisakin and Sadique) as ‘non-career ambassadors’.
The respected envoys were further told that among the most recent heinous crimes perpetrated by the immediate past Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army was secret execution on religious and ethnic grounds of six Igbo Christian soldiers on Monday, 25th Jan 2021. Before their secret execution following trumped up Court Martial, the slain were attached to the Armory Department of the Nigerian Army, located in Abacha (Mogadishu) Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja. The slain Igbo Christian soldiers are Prince Ukwuoma, son of a traditional ruler; Ebube Isaiah, Amos Azubuike, Ekene Ebere, Moses Anyim and Godwin Uchendu. Challenged to publicly produce the soldiers hale and hearty, the Nigerian Army and its immediate past Chief, Retired Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai have refused and failed to do so till date. The duo had also failed till date to disclose the whereabouts of another Igbo Christian soldier, (Trooper) Azunna Mmadubuichi who was controversially convicted and sentenced to death by a Martial Court in Northeast State of Borno in Jan 2021 and another Christian soldier, Lance Corporal Martins Idakpini, who has gone missing after he was taken into Army custody sometime around July or August 2020 for criticizing (in video) the immediate past Army Chief (Buratai) and the Army’s poor handling of counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast.
The Coalition had also in the letters to the 31 key foreign missions catalogued and highlighted 19 massacres perpetrated by the named perpetrators under Retired Lt Gen Tukur Buratai as Chief of Army Staff, between 30th August 2015 and 26th Jan 2021 and enlosed the names of the key perpetrators as well as electronic links to some of the reports on the perpetrated atrocity crimes.
The Coalition respectfully prayed and demanded from the respected envoys that: the named perpetrators especially Retired Lt Gen Tukur Buratai must face prosecution and life jail at ICC or in national courts located in any foreign country operating int’l criminal jurisdictions on crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes; that int’l Governments including the petitioned and Intergovernmental agencies should ensure that the perpetrators are declared and treated as “persona non gratae” and slammed with appropriate international or diplomatic sanctions including being made ineligible and pariahs in all regional and international military, policing and other security or diplomatic engagements especially those involving corporate and individual or intergovernmental consultancies, contracts, partnerships, exchange visits, awards, honours, presentations, board or institution appointments, holidays, etc as well as denying them and their families visas, freezing their accounts and seizing or confiscating their assets abroad. Others are arresting them and taking them into custody for prosecution for directly or vicariously perpetrating internationally prohibited acts if sighted anywhere in the Home Countries of the respected envoys or those of their key allies as well as refusing to accredit ‘ambassadorial’ nominees among them or treating them as ‘pariah ambassadors’ including handing them to ICC or any regional criminal court for trial if indicted and declared wanted; in the event they dishonourably and desperately have their ways as “Nigerian ambassadors” to such countries.
Finally, the Coalition also in the letters drew the attention of the respected envoys on the need for them to be aware and extremely careful over a litany of attempts by the atrocity crimes perpetrators and the Nigerian Government especially the immediate past Army Chief to cover up their heinous atrocities by media hyping; recruitment and oiling of ‘pro bloodshed activists’ or ‘Government/Army “Human Rights Contractors” or “activists” operating in different disguises including mushroom “rights groups”, “research centers” and “columnists”. Such soiled characters have not only been responsible for series of negative writings and media attacks against the likes of Amnesty International and others, but have also been hired by Government to write or submit counter petitions in higher places within and beyond borders in favor or in defense of the named atrocity crimes’ perpetrators” the statement concluded.

Building Road Is Not Good Governance- Ejimole Mbe
“It never ceases to shock me that the Nigerian State has yet to get a handle on some thing as basic as paved roads sixty years into independence; it should incense every enlighten Nigerian that government officials shamelessly list road construction as an achievement. It should be declared a crime! A governor, minister or president who beats his chest to take credit for roads construction should be booted forth with. Please don’t tell me about roads as an achievement not in the 21st century, not after 60years of self governance”.
This statement from the renowned author adds credence to what we have been saying all along, the governor and his supporters have made roads construction the only indices of development in Ebonyi State in this state roads construction has become everything. If you complain of no employment since the inception of the iron gate administration the answer you will get from supporters is roads construction, you complain of poor remuneration of active civil servants and retirees they will tell you how Ebonyi State has become an eldorado because the governor has constructed all roads in the State even when in actual fact Ebonyi State is no way near the picture they are painting.
When you tell them Ebonyi State is the poverty capital of South-East, they will tell you to be grateful to governor Umahi for constructing the kind of roads that has never been seen anywhere in Nigeria in Ebonyi State. When you tell them that the said Dubai of Nigeria has no industry, the answer you will get is that the governor has just completed a shopping mall the kind that can only be seen in Dubai to the supporters Ebonyi is now at par with the United Arab Emirates city in terms of development all thanks to their infrastructural juggernaut hence you we now have conceret roundabouts decorated with solar bulbs and man-made water falls.
In Ebonyi State all other indices of developments has been eroded because of roads construction, tell any supporter of governor Umahi that our public schools are in very bad shapes because of lack of fundings, poor teachers remuneration and dearth of basic facilities. The answer you will get is the governor is doing well infact what he’s doing is unprecedented because since the inception of Ebonyi State no governor from, Commander Walter Feghabor, Sam Egwu and Martin Elechi has been able to do it and they will conclude that after Umahi no governor will equal or even try to do what he’s doing.
Those of us from Afikpo North/ Ehugbo can’t remember the last time we saw light in that town yet the supporters of the governor will not even want it mentioned to their hearing because the governor is busy constructing roads, therefore what’s light compared to roads? But in this town it’s well known that we have the worst roads yet they will tell you to be grateful that Agbaebi Ngodo, Saint Mary road, Ugwu-ukwu to Ama-mgballa roundabout and Amankwo roads were considered by the benevolent governor who has done for us what our sons will not have done were they to be governor.
Roads construction have become an albatross hindering every other form of development in Ebonyi State, other forms of social amenities like water, electricity, good public toilets and provisions of schools facilities. In Ebonyi State roads construction have become the only indices of development and those of us who have been saying other wise are called ingrates but we thank God for someone like Okey Ndibe who by reason of residing in America is telling us that in 21st century roads construction shouldn’t be a bases for measuring achievements for people in government.
Yesterday I read on Oti Abali’s wall a post which stated that the governor Umahi has said he won’t pay his aides because they have not been able to to defend him against those criticising him, I had commented thus; even if his aides decides to throw in the gauntlet they can not defend the governor against opposition and individual critics. Therefore I advice the governor to change gear instead of looking for who to defend him, what the governor should know is that his aides have been lying to him the truth of the matter is that he has not been doing well therefore he should change gear and directions.
Good governance does not end with roads construction you can’t be constructing roads at the expense of other forms of development, there’s still time to change above all stop looking for who to defend you and your administration rather do what is right and your works will speak for you because a golden fish needs no hiding.

Anambra 21: Why I want Soludo- Hon Chinedu Nwoye
Several times, I have been asked this all important question by my friends and social media critics who oftentimes, call me “Soludo Boy”.
For someone like me who has years of personal relationship with Cee Cee Soludo, and have seen him beyond the academic cubicle that mostly define people’s perception or opinion about him, I must say that my choice of him has several angles that I may not be able to competently dissect in one seating.
I could recall, about eight years ago, I had visited the Prof at his Isuofia home during a festive period. Not quite so long after I came in, he asked me to accompany him to visit some natives. I gladly obliged and we set out on the short journey.
At every home we visited, Prof dolled out gifts to the families. One very striking thing about that journey was that, at every point he wanted to give out those gifts, he did it in such a way that if not for my prying eyes, I wouldn’t even notice it.
That is the man Soludo for you. He believes so much in human dignity, and he is of the school of thought that this dignity should not be sacrificed on the altar of philanthropy. He is someone that abides so much by the Biblical injuction in Matthew 6:3, “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”
Soludo is a man for all seasons and for all classes. He does not relate with one based on existing social stratifications, rather on the merit of one’s character. I remember some time ago, I accompanied him to the home of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Being my first time ever having a private audience with such a class of person, I was too careful not to be found wanting in character. I was swept off my feet when Soludo invited me to join him in the dining table with the former President. We ate and related as if I was once an ex-minister or senator…no sense of discrimination.
This is why, when I see a lot of people make uninformed comments about his benevolent disposition, I smile at their ignorance of the man Soludo. Prof may be prudent in expenses, which of course is expected of an economist of international standing like him, but he’s obviously not a penny-pincher when it comes to courses that will advance humanity.
If right leadership is putting square pegs in square holes, Soludo fits-in perfectly.
His cordial relationship with Governor Willie Obiano yielded several fruits for the state. These two bright minds keep on interacting and sharing ideas on how to move Anambra State forward. A job Governor Willie Obiano has done resoundingly well on.
This robust relationship prompted Governor Obaino to appoint him the Chairman of the think-tank group saddled with the task of fashioning out a development road map for Anambra State for the next 50 years.
With Soludo as the Chairman of Anambra Vision 2070, the state is sure to have a pragmatic policy document that will guide successive governments in their programmes for the state. Just like he took Nigeria’s apex bank to the point of Eldorado, through his ingenuity and penchant for success, he will do so and even more in Anambra State.
At a time that Nigerians are clamouring for reduction in the cost of governance, it is appropriate that we look on the side of Soludo, who moves almost unnoticed, without the paraphernalia and braggadocio typical of our politicians. I believe strongly that a sneak peek into the private lives of our politicians would foretell us how their public character would also be when they assume public office.
Soludo’s intellectual capacity is not in doubt. His ability to originate ideas and profer solution to contemporary societal problems/dilemma is top-notch.
This was witnessed very recently when he took a bold step to address the issue of COVID-19 and its impact on our economy. Soludo’s blueprint on how the economy can be running concurrently with the pandemic, while our medical experts work assiduously to find a vaccine for the cure, is what is being adopted all over the world today even when he made it clear in his publication that he was addressing Africans.
In the interest of continuity and sustaining the stability of Anambra State, it’s wise that the ruling party APGA should continue to steer the ship of governance. For me and many others, who is more befitting than a man whose excellent service records received rave reviews all over the world. A member of APGA’s BOT who worked so hard to deliver our party in the last gubernatorial elections in the state. The right man is Soludo!

UNN Students Petition Government To Sack Lecturers Over ..
Angry students of the Department of Medical Biochemistry of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, have raised a petition to the Federal Ministry of Education, demanding the sacking of their lecturers.
It was learnt that the students are angry over the perceived ineptitude of their lecturers which they blamed for the repeated mass failures of students of the school.
In the online petition, which has now had 301 signatories out of the target of 500, the students are calling for the overhaul of the department, noting that its “teaching and assessment styles are faulty”.
We gathered that the petition was raised by one Chiemeka Sidney, and titled, “Sack Lecturers of Medical Biochemistry of UNN for repeated mass failure of students.”
The petition reads, “For many years, the Department of Medical Biochemistry of the University of Nigeria keeps producing mass failures of students taking the course popularly known as ‘metab’.
“Many of the students, who fail or failed this course, even after studying very hard for it, did well in other courses. There is not a doubt that both the teaching and the assessment (examination) styles of this department are faulty.
“Rather than address this issue, the department seems to be enjoying the euphoria of this notorious mass failure. By this petition, we are demanding that these lecturers be held accountable for doing a poor job in teaching the students. This has been going on for years and it needs to stop.”
