April 26, 2019

A new prison facility built by Imo State Government along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, to accommodate no fewer than 3,000 inmates, will soon be ready for occupation. The new facility, which will replace the old one with a carrying capacity of about 500, was built in Owerri, by the colonial masters in 1904.

Speaking, when he played host to the Controller General of Prisons, CGP, Mr. Jaafaru Ahmed, Governor Rochas Okorocha described the new facility as “one of the best in the country”.  Okorocha also told his guest that the facility was singlehandedly conceptualized and constructed by the Imo State Government, to accommodate 3,000 inmates. He also said that the new facility was his contribution towards alleviating the current plight of inmates, who the Governor said: “have suffered the problem of serious congestion in the past”. Okorocha also told his guest that “very soon, President Muhammadu Buhari will be in the state to commission the project”. Responding, Mr Ahmed not only described the structure as “wonderful,” but also commended the state government for “identifying with the Nigerian Prisons Service.” According to the CGP: “I am in Owerri on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau, to inspect the prison facility. I promise to brief the Minister on my findings.”  CGP was accompanied on the inspection tour, by the Deputy Controller General of Prisons in charge of Works and Logistics, Mr. Charles Ahaotu and the Assistant Controller General of Prisons, in charge of Zone E, Dr. J. J. Olorunmola.

Others were the Imo and Rivers State Controllers of Prison, as well as the officer in charge of Owerri Prison, Mr. Seye Olukoya Oduntan and the Prisons Public Relations Officer, Mr. Francis Enobore, a Deputy Controller of Prisons.

Kidnappers demand N70million ransom for LG boss father

The Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area, Mr. Michael Mgbasia has cried out pleading with the abductors of his Father to show mercy and release him unconditionally.

He is also raising alarm over the rife of insecurity that has gripped the Sagbama Local Government Area which incidentally is Governor Henry Seriake Dickson’s home local government.

Mr. Wellington Mgbasia was abducted from his residence on April 7 by armed men and whisked to an unknown destination.

The kidnappers were said to have contacted the family and demanded over N200million before finally settling for N70 million at their last call.

A disturbed Mgbasia in an interview who confirmed that the kidnappers have contacted the family said there was no way the family could raise the ransom money and there is nobody they can run to for help.

According to him the kidnappers should have mercy on the family and release the old whose health might be in danger.

“They have contacted the family and asked us to pay 70million. Where would I get such amount of money even if I spend 10 years as Local government chairman? Where can I get such money in a system like this where everything is dry? I am pleading with the kidnappers to release my father. We are all Ijaw people, I plead with them to release my father unconditionally to me. He is 70-years-old and having leg pains. “

Mgbasia who expressed sadness that it was Ijaw people that were behind the kidnap lamented that insecurity has taken over the local government with rampant cases of kidnapping and other security concerns.

He said security operatives have been overwhelmed with the sophisticated weapons kidnappers and other criminal elements have in their possession.

“It is difficult for me to bear that my father was kidnapped by my own people. If the abductors are from outside, it would be difficult for them to take him out of the community. It is disheartening and it is not a good thing to experience f your father or mother to be kidnapped. Even my SA on treasury matters his mother-in-law was kidnapped. Kidnap is becoming rampant and it is not good. We thought we have gone past it but it is starting all over all again. Bayelsans and Ijaw leaders should come out to fight against kidnapping so that we may have peace. These kidnappers are fully armed than the security men. 20 security operatives cannot face two of them because they are covered with bullets. We would know what to do to put the security in proper shape.”

(NAN)The police in Ebonyi on Monday rushed a 37-year-old man to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for treatment after he allegedly set himself ablaze.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the man, identified as Chinedu Nweze, allegedly set himself ablaze beside a classroom block at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Kpirikpiri, Abakaliki.

He was said to have tied his legs and wet himself with petrol before committing the act.

NAN learned that Nweze, who hails from Umuogharu, Ezza North Local Government Area of the state, had complained to his neighbors of frustration and inability to feed himself, a day before the incident.

Ebonyi Police Command Spokesperson, Mrs. Lovett Odah, told NAN that the command was investigating the incident to ascertain whether it was a suicide attempt or not.

“The command dispatched an ambulance to the scene of the incident and took the man to the hospital after it received a distress call from a member of the public.

“Police are currently carrying out an investigation into the incident but for now we have very sketchy information about the incident and cannot confirm if the act was a suicide attempt or not,” Odah said.

PROPHET NWOKO DIED A MARTYR WITH A MESSAGE

By

-
April 23, 2019

His message is a simple one; let all of you speak up against evil and deceit, let those of you that can’t fight speak to save our nation Biafra. Let the lame talk and the dumb run; let the deaf talk to save our nation. Prophet Nwoko died a martyr; he died professing the fact that a man must die for what he believes in. He did not run away when it was clear death was going to hit him; he instead told our misguided IPOB killing squad that he was ready to die for the course because he would come back with the light of heaven and continue the agitation until Biafra is restored.
They killed him but didn’t kill his voice; they have only given his voice the needed lift, more people have heard late Prophet Nwoko died because he accused Nnamdi Kanu of collecting bribe from Atiku to call off election boycott. One thing to always put first is what late Prophet Nwoko died for; we must always remember even though in his or our ignorance that he died fighting for Biafra. That truth you know should be said; that wrongs you see in our agitation- don’t keep quiet, speak out against it and it shall bring us closer to our nation.
Late Prophet Nwoko faced insult from Uchemefor, Emmanuel Kanu and IPOB through Emma Powerful, called a poor beggar, called all sorts of unprintable names, tagged a saboteur before murdering him. He was killed; they continued, insulting the dead, desecrating everything sacred, even Emma Powerful has to address a seasoned Prophet by ‘One Nwoko’. Even in death; they laid curses on him, no respect for the dead, the last the living can do, late Prophet Nwoko suffered humiliation even in death, all for the message, all to put it across to us that we must stand firm to ensure Biafra is not lost or destroyed. He might be right or wrong but one thing that can never be wrong is his message of surviving Biafra.
He had vowed he would never step his feet on his home until Biafra is restored; he abstained from pleasures of the world, he was accused of working for FG yet remained so poor, that is what being a martyr is all about, giving up everything for something you believe in. Asari Dokubo would not have echoed his message had it been he is alive. I would not have written about his message if he is alive and media would not have taken note of his message if he is alive. He stood and died so that his message would live; at 65years old, he had no reason to fear death and those that killed him only propagated the very message he was created to propagate- that we may speak up to save Biafra and ensure Biafra is restored.
It is our responsibility to heed the call he paid ultimate price for; it is only reasonable we embraced and scrutinized his message and come out stronger and louder. Let his message unite us and shame his murderers; let those who kill for the authority of a man be disgraced and made to understand God is the supreme of all ‘supremos’. We are Biafrans; we value human life and for no selfish  reason shall a man’s life be forced out of him. The martyr died with a message and the only way to make up for his death is to spread his message. Below is Prophet Nwoko’s message,
”“They have been calling me with different lines, making different phone calls, threatening my life. They are calling me fake because I stand by the truth. I went to Kuje prison to pray for Nnamdi Kanu and the next court case he was released.
“I went to Affara-Ukwu to tell him the way forward; he did not listen. Many people are not listening to the voice of God and they want me to be that way. Prophet Nwoko says no. I will never compromise.
“Even if they kill me, I will return with the light of heaven. I am not afraid of the people of the world. I am telling Uche Mefor and IPOB to stop threatening my life. Let me put this straight to everyone: I am ready to die standing by the truth because that is why Jesus Christ came for.
“If everybody will keep quiet, this nation will be destroyed. If everybody will keep quiet, Biafra will not come. Let people know the truth.”

Nnamdi Kanu collected money from Atiku – Prophet Nwoko

By

April 19, 2019

An Enugu-based Prophet, Anthony Nwoko, has claimed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu collected money from Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the eve of the presidential election.

DAILY POST reports that Kanu, who was propagating election boycott message changed his stand few days to the election, after he announced that an unnamed document had been signed.

Prophet Nwoko has now come out to say that the IPOB leader received cash from Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate, to call off the boycott.

Addressing a press conference in Enugu on Tuesday, Nwoko also came hard on leaders of IPOB, MASSOB, BIM and other pro-Biafran agitators, saying that they do not have the mandate of God to lead the struggle for the real freedom of the people.

He said, “It is time for Igbos to realize that they have fumbled for a long time. The agitators from the Igbo land have failed. Nnamdi Kanu with his group has failed, Uwazuruike and his group has failed, Uchenna Madu with his group has failed. Let them come and see the great light from the East who is going to offer great glory into their lives this year, 2019.

“On the part of Nnamdi Kanu, whatever money he collected from the PDP, which I saw from the revelation, let Atiku go and collect his money back.

“Forget about IPOB business with Biafra. IPOB and other groups don’t have any standing to talk about Biafran nation because they are not mandated to do it.

“Nnamdi Kanu has already decided that he will not walk within Christ’s mandate and for that reason, IPOB and his group should forget about the Biafran message that God has sent to his people.

“Wherever Nnamdi Kanu is, let him and his boys sheath their sword and seek peace. Many have died in the name of IPOB. Seek the light through prophet Nwoko. You will see the light before May 29th this year if you are ready to seek the face of God.

“Prophet Nwoko is using this medium to tell my people to repent for the hour has come. You want Biafra, give me seven days, I will deliver it to the whole nation. Biafra is not a hidden mandate, it is a nation that will give peace to the entire world.”

On Buhari’s re-election, Nwoko said, “If he thinks he is going to rule Nigeria with this kind of situation the nation is in right now, he is making a blunder. God did not accept his first four years and he has also rejected his second tenure.”

The Prophet said that Nigeria was in darkness as a result of bad leadership, noting that the election which was held in the country could not guarantee peace and stability but more troubles.

“It’s time for Nigerians to know that the election that was conducted was not the will of God. The time has come for the world to know the truth because the Bible says that you shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free.

“Anybody thinking that Nigerian election will give them peace and happiness is on the negative side. God did not approve this election. God did not welcome Buhari again neither did he want Atiku.

“Let Atiku go to court and withdraw his case. The chapter of PDP is closed from heaven. There is nothing like PDP and APC right now in heaven.

“When the light comes, Nigeria will see peace, when the light comes, Igbo nation will see peace, when the light comes Africa and the whole world will see peace,” he said.

10 ways to spend Easter holiday

By
bvichannel1
-
April 19, 2019

Easter holiday weekend is here and sadly, the weather is not looking too favourable. However, this long weekend provides a perfect opportunity for home improvement and family togetherness.

Easter is traditionally a time for DIY (Don’t Injure Yourself), be it from decorating to landscaping or even solidifying your family bond. We take a look at ten such ways:

1 Make your home clean

Eastertide has officially sprung, so what better time for a home clean? You can either choose to focus on one room, or work your way around the whole property. It’s a great time to tackle some of those jobs you may have been putting off, for example cleaning out the fridge, or washing the windows. You’ll be amazed at how much better the place looks– and it also provides the perfect opportunity to try rearranging the furniture.

2 Go to the cinema

The weather on Sunday is set to be the best of the days over the long weekend, so that is the perfect day to go to the cinema. You can take your kids to the nearest cinema within your reach. Cinemas such as Filmhouse IMAX, Silverbird Cinema, Ozone, Ground Zero Cinema, Nollywood Cinemas among others would be best place to be.

3 Upcycle

Don’t have the money for a new sofa or kitchen table, but the old one is looking a little bit tatty? Take the Easter holidays as a chance to upcycle! A fresh coat of paint can make your old table and chair set look fresh, while a new throw (or if you’re feeling creative, sewing new covers) can add a whole new lease of life to a sofa.

4 Add a splash of colour

A lick of paint can totally refresh a room! Whether your living room looks a bit dull, or your child has outgrown the design of their bedroom, Easter provides a perfect opportunity for redecoration. Peruse the shops for your ideal paint or wallpaper and make your home your personal haven. If it is a child’s room that needs attention, make sure they help pick out the colours and design and even get them involved with the painting if they are old enough. If they are teenagers, you could even set a budget for items such as accessories (lampshade, curtains, etc.). This will make them feel prouder of the finished product – and might even mean they will keep it a bit cleaner!

5 Clean the gutters

It’s not the most pleasant job but it has to be done – especially following such a stormy winter! Not cleaning the gutters can lead to serious problems, since water that gets stuck in the gutters finds the path of least resistance when it tries to drain…which can often be into the walls and ceilings of your house.

6 Spend time with your little ones

Take the time to talk to your children about the Easter story, or your spiritual beliefs. Children like to understand and celebrate religious ceremonies, and take advantage of the many festivals at this time of year to encourage your children’s spiritual development.

7 Share more moments with your family

Sneak a little time away from everyone. Give your partner an hour away from the family and ask them to do the same for you. With the longer days, this could even be a stroll once the children are in bed. When you are away, give yourself the time to enjoy your surroundings and the changes that Spring has brought.

8 Enjoy a meal together

A meal with your family will quench your hunger during the Easter break. If your children are old enough, get them involved in choosing ingredients, shopping for them and cooking the meal. Even if they play a small part, it’s a helpful and positive step for their development for them to join in with mealtimes.

9 Pray together

A family that stays together prays together. Ensure you share the word and pray together to make your Easter a blessed one. You can cite several verses from the Holy Book for your family to stumble upon during your leisure time and give them room to ask questions when needed.

10 Break your chores into bit

Finally, if you really need to get some of your house chores done, be realistic. Think about what you can really achieve with everyone at home (not much, am I right?). Break down large chores into chunks of one hour tasks and don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t get everything done. Long weekends are for you all as a family to chill out, come together and create some lovely memories.

Pro-Biafra prophet and ally turned critic of Nnamdi Kanu murdered in Enugu

By

April 19, 2019

A popular prophet, Anthony Nwoko, has allegedly been murdered in cold blood in Enugu.

Until recently, Nwoko was a close ally of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who prayed for him and the group.

Daily Sun gathered that the man of God, believed to be in his late 60s, was reportedly killed by unknown assailants last Sunday night at his apartment located at No. 18 Ezebinugwu Street, beside Bright Land International School, Ugbene 2, in the Trans-Ekulu-Abakpa axis of Enugu.

Nwoko had lived alone, so, it was said that his death became known when a neighbour noticed that the door of his apartment had remained open; peeped in and saw the man in the pool of his blood.

The attention of the caretaker of the compound was called, who immediately alerted the police, who responded to the scene.

No official report has come from the Enugu State Police Command, but Daily Sunlearnt that they had initially arrested occupants of the compound.

Before his death, Nwoko had taken to social media, particularly Facebook, to speak about his relationship with Kanu which, according to him, went sour after the IPOB leader made him relocate from Lagos to Enugu only to abandon him.

His last posts on Facebook were at about 1:40pm on April 14, where he uploaded various online reports of his views on Biafra agitation, including video clips from Kpakpando TV.

He had in press conferences on January 8 and March 18, 2019, respectively, accused Kanu and some other pro-Biafra campaigners of turning the agitation into a money-making

Nwoko had raised the alarm that he was receiving death threats from members of the IPOB over his bribery allegations against their leader Kanu.

The cleric had claimed that Kanu not only collected huge sums of monies as bribe from the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the February 23 election, but planned to return to Nigeria to “consolidate on his Biafra propaganda if Atiku had won”.

“They have been calling me with different lines, making different phone calls, threatening my life.

“If everybody will keep quiet, this nation will be destroyed. If everybody will keep quiet, Biafra will not come. Let people know the truth.”

Nwoko hailed from Umuahia in Abia state.
