BREAKING NEWS:Niger Delta Agitators To Unveil New Government
|
” Following the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Samuel Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari last week Friday, *a coalition of top Niger Delta agitators have threatened to unveil a government that would oversee the affairs of the region, and equally declared their readiness to work with the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.*
The agitators said that Buhari’s suspension and replacement of Onnoghen by a Northerner was part of his ethnic agenda, which is unhealthy
The agitators, who issued the threat yesterday in a communiqué after a meeting that started in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa on Saturday, noted that since Buhari remains focused on his alleged ethnic agenda, they (agitators) would unveil a government that would oversee the affairs of the Niger Delta region. The communiqué, among others was signed by General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs), and Convener: Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators; General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers); General Simply Benjamin (Bakassi Strike Force); General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors) and Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters)
The agitators described the suspension of Onnighen as a “blatant exhibition of rascality and the highest form of dictatorship, tyranny and fascism in the 21st Century, which we view as the highest level of insult on the collective intelligence of the Niger Delta people.” They added:”The removal is a coup against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a coup against the Rule of Law and separation of powers and a coup against the Nigerian Democracy.
“It is a face-off with the Niger Delta people, and we call on the International Community to note this so that when we would retaliate nobody would blame us.
This is clearly aimed at preventing Justice Onnoghen from selecting/inaugurating credible judges that would handle election petitions in their respective Tribunals.”

Buhari is a Dictator! Unfit to be a Nation’s President
- Swears in Tanko Mohammed as new CJN
- Atiku, NBA, PDP, SANs, others kick as APC backs action
By Willy Eya, Tunde Thomas, Vincent Kalu, Chinelo Obogo, Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Godwin Tsa, Ndubuisi Orji
Outrage yesterday trailed the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari over corruption charges bordering on false declaration of assets.
He suspended the CJN based on the order of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on January 23rd and immediately swore in Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed from Bauchi state as the new CJN. Mohammed is the next in line to Onnoghen. He was sworn in Friday afternoon inside the council chamber of State House Presidential villa Abuja. The swearing in was done by the President after he signed the new Executive Order 007.
Mohammed was driven into the forecourt of the President’s office at about 4:30pm in a black Mercedes Benz C240 with number plate GWA:900FA.
Speaking on Justice Onnoghen, President Buhari said, “since he has charges of corruption filed against him, he would have acted smoothly to spare our judicial arm further disrepute by excusing himself from superintending over it while his trial lasted. But unfortunately, he has not done so, instead the nation has been tilted to the scuffle of spectacle of judicial adjudicate in which the Chief Justice of Nigeria and his legal team have made nonsense of the Court of Conduct Tribunal to hear the allegation and conclude the charges as quick as possible.
“We have all seen the conduct of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, decent on the one of the heads of the court of justice under his control by not obeying the office of this court from the chairman to the judges. Not only the trial court, but others have been put on the spot. Practically, every day since his trial commenced, the nation has witnessed various courts granting orders to counter the case in favour of the CJN. Nigeria is a constitutional democracy, and no one can be or be seen to be above the law. No ordinary Nigerian can get the swift and the kind of support the CJN gets from his subordinates.
“As a government, we cannot stand and fold our hands helplessly. The effort of the executive will amount to nothing without the cooperation of the other arms especially the judiciary. This government is concerned about the suspected persons facing corruption trials have been set from under the watch of the CJN. This has clearly defeated the effort of this administration to develop and prosper. It is against this background that I receive the notice from the CCT directing me to suspend the CJN until final determination of charges against him.
“Therefore, with the directive of the CCT in a letter dated 23rd January, 2019, accordingly, I hereby suspend HON Justice Walter Nkanu Samuel Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria until the final determination of the case against him in the Court of Conduct Tribunal. In further compliance to the request of the CCT, I hereby, order Hon Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed being the most senior justice in the Supreme Court, to come up and take his oath as the Chief Justice of Nigeria in acting capacity.”
One of the first to react was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who described the suspension as “dictatorship taken too far “.
Atiku, in a statement, he personally signed, urged Justice Onnoghen and the judiciary to resist the suspension with every legal and constitutional means possible.
He charged Nigerians to save the country from dictatorship by voting against President Buhari in the February 16 presidential poll, noting that it is symptomatic of the increasing desperation that President Buhari and the cabal pulling the strings have as February 16, 2019 draws near.
“The fact that the unlawful suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen was announced just as it became public knowledge that the CJN was constituting the election petition tribunals is not lost on discerning Nigerians and the international community. This act of desperation is geared towards affecting the outcome of the 2019 Presidential elections. Indeed, it is not just the CJN that has been “suspended”, it is the Nigerian Constitution that has been infracted and, in effect, suspended.” under the guise of the suspension of the CJN.”
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki described the suspension as a coup against democracy and a “deliberate attempt to endanger our hard-won democracy.
Saraki, in a statement signed by him noted that by the suspension of the CJN, Buhari has acted outside the provision of the constitution, has exercised the powers which he does not have and that this action amounted to gross misconduct.
“This is an action aimed at undermining the nation’s judiciary, subverting the constitution, intimidating judges of all the courts of record, and creating uncertainty in the electoral process, thereby laying the foundation for influencing the outcome of litigations that might arise from next month’s elections.
“There are already the general belief that this hasty action was taken to pre-empt the already scheduled inauguration of election petition tribunals by Hon. Justice Onoghen and to destroy national institutions that are perceived to be unco-operative in his bid to manipulate the electoral process leading to next month’s general elections.
“By unilaterally suspending the CJN without following the provision of the constitution, President Buhari has taken an action which amounted to gross misconduct. He has simply sent a dangerous signal to the entire world that Nigeria is no longer a democratic nation and that we have returned to the old, jaded era of military dictatorship .
“Our constitution makes no provision for suspension of the nation’s highest judicial officer. The constitution provides a clear process for removal of the CJN and specify the roles of the three arms of government, beginning from the National Judicial Council (NJC), the National Assembly and lastly, the Presidency, have different roles to play in that process. There is no condition under which the President can usurp the powers of other arms of government. I do not know where the President and his advisers got this idea of suspending the CJN on the so-called order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal but this is novel, disingenuous and alien to our laws.
“It is strange that President Buhari is claiming to be taking orders from a Tribunal which has been ordered by a superior court to halt all actions on the trial.
“With this action, President Buhari has initiated a process the consequence of which nobody can predict. They have precipitated a constitutional crisis.
“At this point, all democratic institutions in the country, the international community and democrats across the world should rise against this blatant act of impunity. We should jointly condemn this retrogressive, uncivilized and despotic measure”, Saraki stated.
He then called on the President to immediately reverse the decision and allow the due process of law to take its natural course in determining the guilt or otherwise as well as the suitability of Justice Onnoghen to continue as the head of the nation’s judiciary.
Also, particularly angered by the development were prominent lawyers who condemned President Buhari’s action, saying that he acted outside the constitution.
Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) described the suspension of the CJN from office as undemocratic and enthronement of full-blown dictatorship in Nigeria, by torpedoing the entire judiciary, rule of law and due process including four valid High Court/Federal High Court rulings and the ruling by the Court of Appeal staying proceedings of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
He called on lawyers and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to shut down all the courts in protest of Justice Onnoghen’s suspension until he is returned to his seat.
Ozekhome who spoke to Saturday Sun also called on the National Assembly to shut down in protest. He added: “The alleged suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen from office of the CJN is the vilest, thieving, most despicable, ultravires, undemocratic and brazenly unconstitutional act ever carried out by any government in Nigeria, civilian or military, since 1st January,1914,when the contraption called Nigeria was forcibly contrived through the amalgamation of Northern and Southern Protectorates.
Another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief James Onoja described the suspension and the consequent swearing-in of Justice Tanko in acting capacity as unconstitutional and an impeachable offence.
Chief Goddy Uwazurike, former President of Aka Ikenga and a lawyer said that in suspending the CJN, the President has thrown Nigeria into a constitutional crisis.
The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders said Buhari was trying to cause a constitutional crisis owing to his desperation and morbid desire to foist the rule of thumb.
In a statement signed by Chief Edwin Clark (South South), Chief Ayo Adebanjo (South West), Chief John Nwodo (South East) and Dr. Pogu Bitrus (Middle Belt), the organisation alleged desperation by President Buhari, saying that the suspension of the CJN will cause constitutional crisis and should be resisted.
Opposition political parties on the platform of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) said that Onnoghen’s suspension is a judicial coup that must be resisted by all lovers of democracy.
In a statement signed by Ikenga Ugochinyere for the CUPP, the coalition alleges that Onnoghen’s removal is aimed at stopping the swearing in of members of the 2019 general election petition tribunal.
Similarly, elder statesman, Tanko Yakassai and former Minister of Transportation, Ebenezer Babatope, both said President Buhari’s action would lead the nation into anarchy and is capable of destroying democracy.
The Peoples Trust presidential candidate, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, accused President Buhari of committing an impeachable offence, saying it must be condemned by all lovers of democracy.
Chief Mike Ahamba, SAN, former lawyer to the President, urged Nigerians to resist the traits of dictatorship being displayed by Buhari’s administration. Former Attorney-General, and Commissioner for Justice in Cross-River State, Mrs Nella Rabana, SAN, said the president’s action must be resisted.
In a statement issued on its behalf by Mr. Yinka Odumakin, the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum described the president’s action as a coup against constitutional democracy. “.Section 292 of the amended 1999 Constitution is clear that the President can only remove the CJN with 2/3 of Senate resolution. To us what has been done is resort to self-help after the Court of Appeal issued an order stopping the trial of the CJN by the CCT presided over by a man answering charges in court over corruption allegations but who is still in office. ’’
Former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, , called on all Nigerians to resist it. ’’
The Secretary General, Eastern Consultative Assembly, Elliot Uko said President Buhari must not be allowed to derail democracy through his action.
The President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Mustapha Yerima, called on members of the civil society to speak out in order to protect democracy. “The independence of the judiciary must be protected. Due process must be followed. Buhari must be told that we are in a democracy and not autocracy or dictatorship’’.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari, to remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said that though the party is not supposed to react to decision taken by the APC-government, the party can only confirm that it is solidly backing Mr President.
Prof. Itse Sagay said Buhari’s suspension of Onnoghen in the present circumstances is in order. “Those SANs defending him are legal parasites who have been trying to frustrate his trial, to prevent him from facing the music.” Sinatu Ojikutu, former Deputy Governor of Lagos said Onnoghen’s suspension is the right step in the right direction.

INDEED, OBY, FELA AND CO ARE WORKING FOR BUHARI
Is there anyone who still want to argue that Madam BringBackOurGirls, Mr Inspire to Expire and their fellow empty Theorists are not political Yahoo Yahoo Characters on an undercover Vote-Splitting mission for the Asorock Cabals??
Who is still in doubt?
Few months to a very important General Election, some supri-supri speaking clowns jump out from no where, no structure, no strong political background, not even the wherewithal to muster enough agents to dispatch to almost 120,000 polling units in the country and they tell you they want to be President????
How can anyone with even an indomie-adulterated brain not know that those ones are simply working to split votes in favor of the incumbent??
Aunty Oby helped midwife a failed PACT for Fela, Sowore and Moghalu -the same PACT they all accused each other of rigging- only to suddenly change from being an umpire to being a candidate, now with just 3 weeks to a Make or Mar General election, she chickened out and is now going back to help re-midwife the very same COALITION she initially betrayed and according to her, she is building the Coalition to fight APC-PDP in the February election, AN ELECTION THAT IS JUST 22 DAYS AWAY. Her own vice Presidential candidate and entire party leadership declared support for President Buhari almost before she could finish writing her ‘withdrawal’ speech. Now, Fela Odutoye, Mr Inspire To Expire is stepping down too.
For those who are yet to get the clear picture, here, let me break it down:
Buhari handlers (The Cabals) knew that while he (Buhari) still retain the support of SOME of his Northern voters who will vote him even if he were to use nuclear weapon on Southern Christians, he will have serious problem getting votes in the South with Python Dance, invasion of Ile-Ife and hand-cuffing and parading of Yoruba Obas, plus Fulani herdsmen festival of death etc. And they are aware that those votes he will not get from the South will ordinarily go to the PDP. But since it is common knowledge that youths form more than half of the voting population, why not engage this political formula called Vote Splitting by sponsoring well known faces that some of those youths naively see as role Models??
This was how these political Alleluia Boys and girl came to be. And here is the plan which will unfold in the next couple of days:
Both Fela and Oby and possibly Sowore will throw their weight behind Professor Moghalu and deceive the gullible ones into thinking that they now have a Coalition that can defeat both the PDP and APC, never mind that their party office is only in Abuja and Lagos.
I’ve said it before and it bears repeating now, Vote splitting is a topic in Political Science. That is what Buhari Cabals are using here. And make no mistake, the likes of Oby, Fela and co are not the only people working for Buhari, I know of one Igbo governor who went to Benue state to pick a military man as the Presidential candidate of one political party they fraudulently refer to as “Nke a Bu Nke Anyi” (This one is our own). I’m talking of APGA here. This governor did this because he knew that Benue people and the entire Middle Belt are not likely to vote for Buhari as a result of the herdsmen death festival in the region. So instead of allowing those votes go to the PDP, why not deceive the less enlightened folks amongst them into wasting their vote thinking they are voting to make their brother President?
The tragic irony here is that it is not even Buhari that those vote Splitters are working for but the dark hearted conscienceless Cabal to whom Buhari himself is even a casualty.
Let me end this with a warning:
The PDP’s Atiku Abubakar remains the only candidate with the wherewithal to defeat Buhari. If you genuinely want Buhari and his Cabal to leave Asorock, get your PVC, prepare to travel to your place of registration, when you get there on the 16th of FailBuhari, vote for Atiku. That is the only way to vote wisely if your aim is to remove Buhari. We are facing Existential Threat here. All of us. This is no time for distractions or aimless rhetorics.

NO AMOUNT OF LIES CAN STOP THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW POLITICAL MINDSET AND ORDER.
Three hours ago, I arrived far flung Cabo in Mexico where our Albert Einstein’s Genius100 Visionaries meeting is holding. I was delighted to read reactions of real patriots to my announcement that I’ve decided to withdraw from the 2019 Presidential race& end my membership of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria- ACPN. I have also seen the reaction of ACPN leadership to my decision.
Fortunately, they have divinely helped me by making the Nigerian public now fully understand why I had to swiftly depart from their midst. How could I upon realizing the divergence of values and vision with the leadership of the Party continue to stand on such a political platform? My abiding vision has been to mobilize citizens to disrupt the old order politics of APCPDP.
Nigeria and Nigerians deserve a New Order of ethical, competent and capable leadership which I had mistakenly assumed the ACPN was aligned with me to offer, until it proved otherwise. The values and vision divergence with the Party was a key factor that triggered my withdrawal from the Presidential race on their ticket prompting me to dissociate immediately in order to help build a coalition for Good Governance. It is why I was instant in sacrificing my candidacy to uphold my values by withdrawing.
The Party’s decision to immediately today endorse the candidate of APC which was announced by my erstwhile VP candidate who is also the Chairman of ACPN was their classic political entrepreneurship in full display for Nigerians to see. It is instructive.
The Party leadership’s transactional approach to Politics began to manifest in their attitude following after the Convention that adopted me as their Presidential Candidate. All who know me can attest that I detest transactional mindset. I would have none of such and therefore extremely delighted to part ways after a tumultuous three months of hoping that the ACPN leadership would elevate to the new values of disruptive politics that one had desired for and preached within the Party.
As for the defamatory statements made against my person by the ACPN leadership in their malicious statement, I want Nigerians to know that there is NO IOTA of truth in any of them. Everything ACPN wrote or said of the campaign donations is fabrication&outright lies. Our Campaign was conducted with the highest level of transparency and accountability with impeccable evidence. I know and can guarantee that at all times because, these standards firmly underpin my commitment to lasting values and professionalism.
Only those who desperately wish to believe falsehoods would lend any credence to such puerile accusations by the leadership of ACPN. Only those who pretend ignorance of my legendary and uncompromising passion for accountability would give heed to such baseless statement.
I have declined any interviews until my return to Nigeria upon which I shall hold a World Press Conference to engage Nigerians on the actions I shall take even as we present full report of our 3-month old Campaign for the 2019 presidential election to the public.
I want to again thank all who supported us in the last three months with their talent, time and treasure to run a formidable Campaign. Without your support we would never have attained the height #Hope2019 achieved. You gave our Disruptive Campaign real VALUE.
We shall at the World Press Conference also provide insights into the citizens movement that we are energized and committed to build. There is no end to our zeal to end the reign of Bad Politics in our country.
Finally, take it from me that WE shall definitely build the Coalition force that will terminate the poverty escalating governance of the two dominant parties in the 2019 election.
We are citizens of Nigeria.
And we are resolved.
Oby Ezekwesili

INEC Rejects Oby Ezekwesili Withdrawal From The Presidential race
The reported withdrawal of Presidential Candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) for the 2019 presidential race, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, has been rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC said it was acting on the Electoral Act which stipulates that a candidate would only withdraw from the race no less that 45 days to the date of elections.

Confusion over mode of transmitting polls results
Confusion arose yesterday over the mode of transmitting election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Cross River State, Dr. Frankland Briyai, claimed the poll results would be transmitted electronically.
However, the chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, insisted: “It is practically impossible to use electronic transfer,” noting that, “it has no legal backing.”
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the INEC boss explained: “I am sure the Cross River REC must have been quoted out of context because this issue must have been resolved before now.
“Electronic transfer of votes would have been possible if Mr. President had signed the Amended Electoral Act. INEC cannot use it in this general elections because it has no legal backing.”
But Briyai said in Calabar: “Results will be transmitted from the polling units electronically and the result box will also be carried physically by the collation officers.
“When the collation officer comes with the physical result, it will be confirmed with the electronic result in the presence of the party agents and INEC staff.
“It is only when the physical results and the electronic results correspond that it will be approved by the party agents that that results will be accepted.
“Our smart card readers have been enhanced and upgraded. We have tested them in Osun, Ekiti as well in Anambra Central Senatorial District. In Anambra State, the failure rate was about 0.0%, in Osun State, I did not hear of any smart card failure.
“In our Bye Election in Obudu, there was no smart card failure. The reason is that at each polling unit, we have technicians that fix these smart card readers in case of any challenge.
“One of the problems we discovered over time was that the ad-hoc staff did not know how to use the smart card readers appropriately and so this time around, we are going to have a series of training for them so that they can be very proficient in the use of the card readers.”
Unlike the last general elections, the REC said prospective voters would vote immediately after accreditation and there would be no separate time for accreditation and voting.
He said to address the problem of logistics and late commencement of voting the commission signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and its sister organisation to help convey materials and personnel to the respective locations. Briyai disclosed that the commission would be recruiting over 15,000 ad-hoc staff for the presidential and legislative elections next month.
He said the commission had taken delivery of non-sensitive materials like ballot boxes and generators from its zonal office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and that there would be generating sets in all the wards in the state.
Meanwhile the Department of State Services (DSS), yesterday embarked on a two-day intensive training of critical electoral stakeholders to put in place adequate measures to contain potential threats to the general elections.
Director-General of the secret police, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who spoke during the opening ceremony at the services’ Institute of Security Studies in Abuja, said the seminar was designed to create awareness among critical stakeholders in the transport, logistics sector, civil society organizations and the general populace on possible threats to the general elections.
Represented by the director of the institute, Ayodele Adeleke, he revealed that the service was not unaware of myriad of prevailing security challenges, anticipated threats to the elections, as well as the general trepidation over safety of men, materials and the fear of possible negative outcomes.
He said: “Election management as we know, has been a major concern in strengthening electoral systems and attainment of democratic stability in Nigeria.
“The security of an electoral process is crucial, not just in ensuring a free, fair and credible outcome, but also fundamental to attainment of national security.
“Unfortunately, electoral processes and democratic transition in Nigeria, between 1964 and 2018, have been generally marred by irregularities, violence and general insecurity.
“Given the myriad of prevailing security challenges and anticipated threats to the 2019 general elections, which are barely a few weeks away, the general trepidation over safety of men, materials and entire process, as well as the fear of possible negative outcomes, are justified.”
