OPEN GRAZING BAN: GARBA SHEHU ,AN AGENT PROVOCATEUR, WORKING FOR EXTRANEOUS INTERESTS ―Akeredolu

The 17 Southern Governors in the country have lambasted the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, for saying that “their announcement on open grazing is of questionable legality”.

Reacting on their behalf, the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi, accused Garba Shehu of creating confusion in the polity by his utterances.

Akeredolu accused Garba Shehu of “working assiduously, for extraneous interests whose game plan stands at variance with the expectations of genuine lovers of peaceful coexistence among all the peoples whose ethnic extractions are indigenous to Nigeria.

Akeredolu in the statement in Akure, Ondo state and signed by his Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, said that “Mr Garba must disclose, this day, the real motive(s) of those he serves, definitely not the President.

The statement is entitled “Mr Garba Shehu; On the Trail of An Agent Provocateur” “He cannot continue to hide under some opaque, omnibus, and dubious directives to create confusion in the polity. The easy recourse to mendacious uppity in pushing a barely disguised pernicious agendum is well understood.

“The declaration that the recommendations of the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, a mere political appointee like Garba Shehu, are now the “lasting solutions” which eluded all the elected representatives of the people of the Southern part of the country, exposes this man as a pitiable messenger who does not seem to understand the limits of his relevance and charge.

The statement reads “Mr Garba Shehu just released a press statement purporting to represent the position of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the farmer-herder “clashes” and what he termed as “Deep Rooted Solutions to the herdsmen attacks”.

“He also attributed a unilateral decision to the President who “clears the way for ranching and revival of forest reserves” as part of the “permanent solution to the frequent clashes between them, as well as the associated problem of the gun-wielding “killer-herdsmen”.

“Anyone who has been following the utterances of this man, as well as his fellow travelers on the self-deluding, mendacious but potentially dangerous itinerary to anarchy cannot but conclude that he works, assiduously, for extraneous interests whose game plan stands at variance with the expectations of genuine lovers of peaceful coexistence among all the peoples whose ethnic extractions are indigenous to Nigeria.

“Mr Garba contends that their announcement is of questionable legality”, referring to the 17 Governors of the Southern States, but the decision of certain elements to take the ancestral lands of other people to settle their kinsmen, including the “gun-wielding” “killer herdsmen” and their families, and provide “veterinary clinics, water points for animals, and facilities for herders and their families including schooling through these rehabilitated reserves” for which “the Federal Government is making far-reaching and practical changes allowing for different communities to co-exist side-by-side”, does not appear to him as a comprehensive plan for land grabbing, a precursor to internal colonialism.

“He wants to “revive forest reserves” but seems particularly uninterested in the current position of the same law, that he and his cohorts often misinterpret to serve parochialism and greed. Governors no longer have powers over the lands in their territories. “They must take instructions from appointees of the Federal Government on such matters. “lt is superfluous, and that is being charitable, for anyone to remind us of the constitutional right of bona fide citizens to enjoy rights and freedoms within every one of our 36 States (and FCT)-regardless of their state of birth and residence”.

“There has never been any contention on this provision. It is clear that Mr Garba seems to have issues understanding the difference between licentious criminality and qualified rights under our law.

“It is our duty to continually nudge him off his current state of cognitive dissonance. His pronouncement betrays dubiety and mischief.

“Most traditional families in Nigeria have occupations. Pastoralism is not an exception. Any ethnic group still trapped in anachronism may be assisted to embrace modernity.

“Dispossessing communities of their ancestral lands, encouraging denizens of the forests to overrun lands belonging to other people and forcing alien bands of migrants on the local populace to live “side-by-side” with other communities cannot be for the purpose of animal husbandry.

“It raises suspicion on a grand, deliberate, persistent, and insidious design to use naked force to subjugate the real owners of the land. Mr Garba Shehu is a major supporter of the current pervasive anarchy in the land.

“May we warn Mr Garba Shehu and his cohorts to desist from hurling insults at the elected representatives of the people. “He lacks the authority to make policy statements for the Federal Government, unless directed, expressly.

His acts are clearly those of an agent provocateur. Other closet dreamers, aspirers to colonial fantasies, must be weaned off their delusion.

Akeredolu declared that ”No inch of the space delineated and known, currently, as South West, and indeed the whole South, will be ceded to a band of invaders masquerading as herdsmen under any guise.”

Presidency’s Statement On Southern Govs’ Open Grazing Ban Provocative – Edwin Clark

Prominent Ijaw leader and First Republic Minister of Information, Edwin Clark, has said it is unfair and provocative for President Muhammadu Buhari, to say the declaration by southern governors against open grazing is illegal.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement yesterday, had said that the ban by the governors was of questionable legality.

He also said the ban offered no solution to the crisis between farmers and herders.

Reacting, Clark wondered why there was no criticism from the Presidency when northern governors passed a similar resolution.

The elder statesman, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday while celebrating his 94th birthday, advised the President to withdraw the statement and make peace with Nigerians.

According to him, “Well, I said today is a special day for me. I didn’t want to comment on such issues that will make me speak in a provocative way.“However, I will advise Mr. President, as I said this morning, on Arise, he is the president of Nigeria, is not the President of the North. We all voted for him and under the Constitution Section two, I think, he has a duty to protect all Nigerians and at the same time, to provide for their welfare.

“But a situation now where we have herdsmen carrying AK 47…first of all, he said they were not Nigerians, that they were coming from Tripoli after Gaddafi’s fall, he allowed them to come in killing our people, they are in the south, they are everywhere, they are even killing our people including people in the north. I do not understand.

“I remember in those days, I think in 2002, when he led a delegation to Ibadan to meet the governor of Western Nigeria at that time, and told him that the Westerners killed about 65 Fulanis whereas only about two of them were really killed. And so, he has been promoting the affairs of cattle herdsmen over the years and he said he’s a farmer, he has cattle ranch.

“But being the President of Nigeria, it is very unfair and provocative for him to say that what the 17 Southern governors declared was illegal or does not carry the weight of law.”

He added: “I think that’s a very bad statement, uncharitable, very unfortunate. The Constitution, which his Attorney-General is quoting from time to time, provides only for freedom of human beings, freedom of Nigerian citizens to move from place to place. Not freedom of cattle or goats or sheep that they can come into your house, they can do whatever think they like, no.

“When I was young, over 80 years ago, we lived with the Fulani herdsmen at home, nothing happened. We all lived together but what Governors are saying is that herdsmen that carry guns, that rape our women, kill our people, kidnap our people, must leave and should not be allowed. Open grazing is very archaic. These were the practice 80 years ago in this country.

“In all other parts of the world, like Malaysia, everywhere they have changed. We now have modern ranching. So that’s the position.

“So Mr. President’s statement is very uncalled for and as I said, I remember the Vice President of Nigeria, who is the number two to him, is the leader of the National Economic Council that is provided for in the Constitution. All governors are members, the Minister of Finance is a member, the Attorney-General is a member.

“They met some time ago, I don’t know the date now, and passed a resolution that open grazing is archaic, dangerous and should be set aside and let us embrace ranching, modern ranching.

“The 19 governors of the north also met and took similar decisions, particularly the Governor of Kano state. He said that he has enough land for ranching for all the herdsmen.

“So for him (Buhari) not to condemn any of those ones, for him now to say for the first time, southern governors met he is worried. When the 19 northern governors meet from time to time, he’s not worried. He has never criticized them.

“So, I appeal to him to withdraw that statement and make peace with all Nigerians, we have no other country to go to. I do not believe in secession. I do not believe in the breakup of Nigeria, but these are huge issues that may break up this country.”

IPOB hires another lobbying firm in fresh N300M deal

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has engaged a new American lobbying firm to help the group win the support of the U.S. government, PREMIUM TIMES reports

The one-year deal is designed to run for 12 months and is costing Mr Kanu and IPOB $750,000, which is over N300million at the current official exchange rate of N410 to one U.S. dollar.

PREMIUM TIMES is in possession of the contract papers which Mr Kanu signed with the BW Global Group (BWGG LLC, in February)

The firm, co-owned by Jeffrey Birrel and Alan White, is registered in Washington D.C, the U.S. capital, which has a high concentration of top government officials, lawmakers, policymakers, and opinion leaders, who IPOB is trying to engage on the rightfulness and necessity of its cause.

The agreement, which took effect from March 1, 2021, came months after an earlier one struck by Mr Kanu with another U.S.-based lobbying entity, Mercury Public Affairs LLC, expired.

Under the old contract, IPOB, through Mr Kanu, paid $85,000 per month beginning September 23, 2019, in addition to a $5,000 one-time compliance fee.

That means Mr Kanu paid $1,025,000 for the 12-month contract, which is approximately N400million, based on the prevailing official exchange rate at the time (N380 to a dollar).

In June last year, the Nigerian government fumed at the deal, which it claimed was aimed at discrediting the country in the U.S. and Europe.

PREMIUM TIMES got the details of both the old and new deals from the contractors’ registration statements and agreements filed at the Foreign Agents Registration Unit of the U.S Department of Justice.

The registration, mandatory under the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938 and for “public disclosure”, entails filing documents, including completed predesigned forms marked Exhibits A and B, and the agreements stipulating the full details of the contract.

Failure to provide this information “is subject to the penalty and enforcement provisions established in Section 8 of the Act,” FARA says in one of the documents reviewed by this reporter.

The terms of the successive contracts with a strict focus on the U.S appear to be part of Mr Kanu’s quiet but broad efforts to win the support of the U.S. government, Congress, policymakers, and opinion leaders for IPOB.

The filings by BW Global Group (BWGG) after negotiations were concluded in February show that the firm was engaged by Mr Kanu to undertake “political activities” in the U.S. on behalf of IPOB.

The activities include engaging the U.S. government, Congress and the Department of State, (the equivalent of Foreign Affairs Ministries in Nigeria and other countries) and engaging policymakers on behalf of IPOB.

“The registrant (BWGG) expects to advocate on behalf of IPOB within the US Government (including the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Department of State) and otherwise engage policymakers and opinion leaders,” a part of the registration statement marked Exhibit B, read.

The agreement, signed on February 24, 2021, by Mr Kanu, another representative of IPOB, Rita Eze, and a co-owner of BWGG, Mr White, provides further details of what the job entails.

“BWGG shall provide the IPOB with services relating to the promotion of human rights and democracy and shall otherwise act as an advocate for the indigenous people of Biafra,” the document reads in part.

It added that BWGG “may also undertake other similar services that might be referred to BWGG from the IPOB from time to time by mutual agreement.”

The deal has the same scope as the expired contract executed by Mercury Public Affairs, LLC.

Under that agreement, Mercury provided “strategic consulting and management services specific to issues facing the client in the areas of government relations and issues management.”

BWGG is expected to provide the agreed services under the new agreement to IPOB for a period of one year from March 1, 2021, through February 28, 2022.

The firm is to receive its payment for “professional services” of $750,000 in monthly instalments.

But $100,000 is to be paid at the signing of the agreement covering the first two months – March and April 2021 – “leaving a balance of $650,000”.

The balance of $650,000 “will be paid in monthly instalments of $65,000 USD per month commencing on May 1, 2021, and paid successively on the 1st of each month until the total fee of $750,000 USD has been paid to BWGG by the client”.

“Payment to BWG shall be by bank wire or bank draft,” the document added.

The firm, under the agreement “will provide monthly status reports as deliverables regarding the progress and status of the project.”

Mr Kanu, a British and Nigerian national, has a relatively strong footing in the U.K.

His engaging lobbyists to win the support of the U.S. appear to be part of a broader move to win the buy-in of western powers in the separatist cause of IPOB.

IPOB, known for its agitation for an independent Republic of Biafra, has had a series of violent confrontations with Nigeria’s security agencies.

Weeks of deadly encounters between the group’s members and soldiers culminated in a military invasion of Mr Kanu’s home in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, the Abia State capital, in September 2017.

Mr Kanu, who wants the Igbo-speaking states in Nigeria’s South-east carved out of Nigeria, fled the country in the wake of the military invasion.

Following that encounter with IPOB militants, the Nigerian government obtained a court order on September 20, 2017, to designate the organisation a terrorist group and to proscribe it.

But the British government has yet to recognise IPOB as a terrorist group. There is even suspicion by some officials of the Nigerian government that Britain facilitated Mr Kanu’s return to the U.K after he escaped the military invasion of his home. PREMIUM TIMES has yet to independently verify that claim.

With the charges of treasonable felony still pending against him at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Nigerian government has repeatedly fumed about the protection he and other IPOB members appear to be getting from the British government.

Since fleeing Nigeria, Mr Kanu continues to engage IPOB members through his social media channels, with the government often attributing escalating violence in the Southeast region to IPOB.

Many local and international human rights organisations have also condemned years of military attacks on the group that started as a peaceful organisation pursuing the rights of its members to self-determination.

Gunmen Attack In INEC,B Division Unsuccessful – Commissioner Of Police

AWKA — Gunmen yesterday evening attacked the Awka Police B division located along Anambra state secretariat road, in Awka the Anambra state capital. The attack which started around 8 in the evening, left the entire capital city deserted, with rumours that the gunmen have overpowered and burnt Police B division, from where they moved to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission- INEC, which is just less than a minute drive away.

However, we can confirm that the attack was unsuccessful. While parts of the Police B division were razed by fire, no officer was lost in the combat. At INEC, only the collation centre and the storeroom were affected and till this morning, firefighters are still putting out the fire in the store, which is a detached small building adjacent to the INEC office main complex.

We also gathered that the gunmen gained entrance into the INEC complex through a hole they created by blasting a part of the fence adjourning an undeveloped plot. Aside use of explosive devices, the hoodlums use fuel to commit arson. Not less than four twenty-five liter gallons emptied of fuel were discovered in one of their vehicles, grounded by the law enforcement.

In all, the gunmen attacked with three unregistered vehicles; two Toyota Hilux, white and black, and one blue Ford Ranger. All three vehicles were grounded outside the INEC office complex. A Keke suspected to be one of the means they used for the attack was also grounded. Several arms including no fewer than six pump action, one AK47, IEDs, and many live ammunition were recovered from the attackers. No fewer than four of the gunmen were neutralized, while at least two have so far been captured alive.

In a press briefing earlier today at the INEC headquarters, the Anambra State Police Commissioner CP Chris Owolabi said the attack on the Police B division was not the target of the gunmen. “The attack on police B division was a decoy to attack INEC, so from there they proceeded to INEC and we engaged them and demobilized their three vehicles which made them scamper for safety and we recovered a number of firearms from them”, the CP said.

Speaking further, CP Owolabi noted that they are still investigating the matter and would not like to make comments that can jeopardize the ongoing investigation. And so he declined to mention how many hoodlums were neutralized or how many arrested so far. “Investigation is still ongoing. So when investigations are completed, you will get details”.

However, the CP stated that the police lost no one. “ I can guarantee you specifically that there is no casualty on the side of the police, it is a success for us, just that we lost a few vehicles in INEC, and part of our building was burnt in B division, and part of INEC office here. Otherwise, I would have said it’s 100% success but its 95% success, for us”.

In his concluding remarks, he assured Ndi Anambra to go about their normal businesses and report any suspected movements, noting that God is with Ndi Anambra and that all security agencies are working in synergy to reclaim all public space.

For Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, the Anambra state Resident Electoral Commissioner, reacting to question as to if the attack would affect the conduct of the Anambra state governorship election coming up on November 6th, he said it is the Commission that will decide, not him. “Conducting the election is what the commission will decide. For now, there is nothing I can say to that effect”. He also confirmed that no staff was hurt in the attack.

A total of seven INEC operational vehicles were set ablaze by the hoodlums, and while four were totally damaged, three were partially damaged.

ANAMBRA 2021: Ekwunife, Ubah Soludo looks good to go!-Clem Aguiyi

Between the 19th-29thof April 2021, I was in Anambra on the invitation of Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah to witness his Thank You and Declaration Tour. Dr. Ubah is contesting for the Anambra 2021 governorship election under the platform of YPP(Young People’s Party).

The entourage toured the entire 21 LGs of Anambra State in ten days. At every stop he was received by an excited and mammoth crowd. I discovered that YPP is not what outsiders think of it. The party’s spread is wide and their energy infectious. With dint of hard work and creative politics, Dr. Ubah has built a formidable network of followers and support groups down to wards in every single community in the State.

To win the November 2021 Governorship Election, all the party need do is to build on their already galvanized momentum and to remain focused with eyes on the ball. With better strategy and good organization, the election will be theirs to win.

This however is not the subject of this essay, suffice to note that YPP potentials makes Senator Ubah a major force to contend with. He has all it takes to spring a surprise and win the governorship. For Anambra 2021, I project a definitive three horse race between YPP, PDP, APGA.

APGA ordinarily would have easily called the election given its 16 years consistent leadership of the State, but the APGA effect is now jaded and damaged with serial infighting tearing down the party. The preferred candidate of the party Prof Charles Soludo has not been able to bring the warring factions together, and the bad blood between the governor and the founding members of the party who helped him to power is not helpful either. If APGA goes into the election with its deep cracks, it will be ‘Nunc Dimittis’ for the Igbo regional party experiment.

Soludo’s highest selling point is that he was a brilliant Professor of Economics and former Governor of the Central Bank. His performance as CBN Governor is now in question. Who did he help as CBN governor and how did he benefit the State with that position? In a State where religion plays critical role in politics, his faith has also come under scrutiny. Is he an atheist as some are speculating?

Another party to beat is PDP. The party parades some of Anambra’s best as aspirants. The foremost contenders with good ratings are Senator Uche Ekwunife , Mr. Val Ozigbo, Dr. Godwin Maduka , Hon. Chris Azubogu and Dr. Obiora Okonkwo.
Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, is considered by many as a seasonal politician who only surface during election seasons to use the party structure to host his ambition otherwise he has never contributed to the building of the party’s bench and never cared.
Party members do not believe in him and do not think he has the capacity to win a major election. They fear he is the type that is likely to dump and jump party after realizing his ambition.

Valentine Ozigbo is a technocrat who is reputed to be supported by the UBA Group. It’s assumed resources will not be his problem. This is about his first time of venturing into partisan politics. He has not carried any body’s bag, an essential pupilage in Anambra politics. So far his campaign has managed to make some waves but not enough spark to assure victory.

If PDP truly hunger to reclaim Anambra Government House, then they need more than a good candidate, they need a candidate that has the capacity to win and wrestle power from APGA. Party members are concerned about the collateral damage of giving ticket to a non-establishment member. They worry about giving ticket to a candidate that can only care about the husk as much as any parasite does.

I have also followed the political trajectory of Hon Chris Azubuogu . Azubuogu is a three term Honorable Member of the House of Reps. He is the Chairman of Appropriation and has used the position to immensely benefit his constituency and parts of the State. He has attracted so many projects making his admirers to christen him ‘Mr. Project’.
Azubuogu is cerebral. He appears prepared for the position he is vying except that some party members describe him as a dour and colourless politician lacking the required charm and charisma to win a major election.

Will Dr. Godwin Maduka get PDP’s ticket? If politics is a beauty contest , Maduka will win effortlessly but politics with all its intrigues is not a tea party.

Dr. Maduka is a self-assured and self-regard kind hearted philanthropist who has done so well for his people. He used his personal wealth to turn around the fortunes of his sleepy community. However, his political fortune hasn’t lived up to its initial expectations. He has not blended very well and appear disconnected with the people. They dismiss his politics as elitist and not grassroot connected.

He may end up a good governor if elected, but to be elected, he need to be on the ballot. His chances of flying the party’s flag is doubtful given that he is also not an establishment politician in the State. Giving him ticket will be pilfering the party of its talents and resources which are needed for future battles.

Will Anambra make history with Senator Uche Ekwunife? Time will tell and so much depends on how PDP primary delegates would vote. Thus far, she stands out and looks good for the ticket.

The one argument against her is that she is a woman. Anambra the say is not ready for a female governor. Whatever that means. This to me is a failed argument because what the people want is a performer and a character they can trust. Anambra is currently represented by two female senators out of three. The two female Senators are Uche Ekwunife and Stella Oduah. They didn’t become senators because they are females or by luck but by dint of hard works. The won highly contested elections defeating highly rated men of timber and calibre. Thus far, their representation in the Senate has been superlative to say the least. So, the gender argument is weak. What the electorates want is a candidate that understands their needs; who understands their need for the kind of education that will enable them fit into the economy; who understands they need jobs when they can be employed; who understands their need to be paid living wages for works they have done and that when they retire , they retire with respect and dignity by having their pensions paid.

They want someone who will create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive . They want when they are sick to be able to get affordable treatments in the hospitals. They want to live in peace and security.
Thus, they want to elect the candidate that understands the issues as it affects them and who can assist in resolving their issues. They are not bothered about sexist and gender politics.

Like or loath her, Senator Uche Ekwunife (Iyom) has had a fascinating, impressive and progressive political career. She is a veteran of several elections and reputed to be a hard fighter. She is the PDP candidate to beat in the primary election.
As an old workhorse she knows her route. If given the ticket she will be a force to contend with. She has a cult like followership who trust and believe in her. She has the resources as well as the good will to prosecute a major election. She won’t be a parasite on the party, neither would she neglect the party structure.

I don’t think there is any of the aspirants within the party who has worked as hard as she has done for the ticket, who have touched lives and invested in people as much as she has done. I don’t think any of the aspirants has the political experience she has garnered over the years and none can boast of the kind of intimidating political structure she has built and ready to roar. If PDP intends to field a candidate that is sure footed and courageous, then they need not look farther than Senator Uche Ekwunife. With her, the party is sure of now and a bright future. She has the capacity to win and make history as the first elected female Executive Governor of a State in Nigeria.

Unknown Gunmen are not Igbos- Hope Uzodimma

Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo, says 70 percent of the gunmen who attacked the state are not Igbo.

He said over 400 people who caused mayhem in the state have been arrested and charged to court.

Gunmen had attacked security facilities in the state, including the police headquarters and the correctional centre in Owerri, the state capital.

In a statement by Oguwike Nwachuku, his chief press secretary, Uzodinma said most of the suspects are not persons of the Igbo extraction.

Over 400 of those who carried out the threats on the state in the past have been arrested,” he said.

“The good thing is that over 70 percent of them are not Igbo. We will crush anybody that attempts to cause mayhem or attack Imo people again.

“Government cannot surrender to blackmailers, hoodlums, and perpetrators of violence.”

The governor warned those planning to visit the state with any form of violence to have a rethink as “government is more than ever ready and prepared to keep Imo safe and secured”.

Uzodinma called on the people to go about their business without fear of molestation or harassment.

“What happened in the past weeks will never repeat itself again,” he said.

The Cbale

Anambra 21: Senator Victor Umeh, A Man and More; the Political Pacesetter.

About a fortnight ago, Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh played host to the front line APGA gubernatorial aspirant, Prof Chukwuma Soludo in his palatial residence at Aguluzigbo in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State.

During that epochmaking event which drew the presence high powered government officials and party leaders across the length and breadth of the state, the former National Chairman of APGA and immediate past senator that represented Anambra Central Senatorial district, Senator Dr Victor Umeh (Oahamdike Ndi Igbo) expressed satisfaction and confidence in the ability, capacity and reach of Prof Soludo to win for APGA the next governorship election and therefore publicly announce his unalloyed support for his aspiration. He said ” we are not interested in who wins primary election and fail general election; our interest is on who has the wherewithal to win both primary and main election for APGA”

This singular action of Senator Umeh attracted so many appraisals from political scholars and commentators. There were different interpretations from different people. Some members of APGA took offense alleging that Senator Umeh shouldn’t have openly endorsed an aspirant above others. Some maintained that he has the right to endorse any aspirant of his choice. It was more serious in the camp of opposition parties in Anambra State. There was so much unrest amongst the opposition camps in the state and they demanded for Ohamadike’s head. Well, the political Jagaban was never deterred by the numerous interpretations that was given to his decision.

While Ohamadike’s action was still making headlines on social media platforms and some national dailies, one of his age-long political aficionado, Chief Jude Agumadu ( Baby Awka, Ozo Odinaka Chukwu) towed the path of his master. Borrowing a leaf from Senator Victor Umeh, Baby Awka invited Prof Soludo and gave his guber aspiration a public endorsement.

As if that was not enough, just yesterday, Enugu- Ukwu town in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State was “hot” following Rt Hon Dozie Nwankwo’ s endorsement of Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Today, Hon Dr Ibezi Ifeanyichukwu (Ochiagha Idemili) will be playing host to Prof Chukwuma Soludo where he intends to do what Ohamadike did. He will publicly endorse Soludo for the ticket of APGA ahead of Nov 6 guber election in Anambra state

A number of political leaders in the state have indicated interest to replicate what Ohamadike did. How else can someone define capacity and influence? Senator Dr Victor Umeh is indeed a political ijele.

While speaking both at Baby Awka and Onye Ndozi’s residence, Ekwueme Enugwu-Ukwu na Umu Nri blamed political ignorance as the reason why some APGA members are not comfortable with his decision to pitch tent with Soludo. According to him, ” what an elderly man sees while sitting down may not be seen by the young ones even when they climb a tree”. He however advised Facebook politicians to shun public castigation of our political leaders on social media platforms as that will adversely hurt their political future.

The highlight of yesterday event at Rt Hon Dozie Nwankowo’s residence was when Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh reconciled with Hon Chief Benjamin C Obidigwe (Aka Oma Jide). During his speech, Ohamadike said ” Akaoma, I was not happy with you but because of this Soludo project, I’ve forgiven you”. With deep smiles in his face, Akaoma stood up, walked up to Senator Umeh and gave him a warm embrace. Ohamadike tapped his back and said softly ‘ it is well with you “.

My dear readers, there’s no gainsaying that APGA is a cooperative movement. It is more determined than ever to retain self in Agu Awka and further provide excellent and service driven leadership to Ndi Anambra.

Mayor Okeke writes from Awka, Anambra State.
