Ada Jesus, the popular comedienne who insulted popular native doctor Chi Marine Temple and controversial prophet Odumeje is dead, says after celebrating her 27th birthday.
27-year-old Mercy Cynthia Ginikachukwu, known by her stage name Ada Jesus has been battling kidney failure and was recently in the news following her request for forgiveness from Prophet Odumeje and Nollywood actress Rita Edochie.
Although her family is yet to confirm the news, Harrison Gwamnishu who galvanised people via social media to seek for medical attention confirmed her death. She died in the morning hours of today at Zenith Hospital where she was receiving treatment.
Ada’s woes started last year when she suffered an ailment that got her paralyzed and unable to speak after she came down with kidney problem and stroke which appear to have defiled all medical treatments in 2020.
While many prayed for her quick recovery, others advised her to go and ask for forgiveness as they claimed she has been abusive to pastors, native doctors and many notable people in most of her videos and that her sickness may not be ordinary.
Some of the notable people she had called out in some of her videos are; Popular native doctor, Chi Marine Temple, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, and popular Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie.
Ada had accused Odumeje of faking miracles, alleging that she and Rita has been helping to bring people to fake miracles for the prophet. She went further to accuse the actress of having an affair with Prophet Odumeje and that she is a lesbian.
The Nigerian Federal Government says the reported decision of the United Kingdom to grant asylum to “persecuted” members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is disrespectful of Nigeria as a nation.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, also said that the decision amounted to sabotaging the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security.
Fielding questions from Newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, Mohammed said the decision is unacceptable to Nigeria.
“Let me say straight away that this issue is within the purview of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and I am sure he will handle it appropriately.
“But as the spokesman for the Federal Government of Nigeria, I will say that if indeed the report that the UK will grant asylum to supposedly persecuted IPOB and MASSOB members is true, then something is wrong somewhere.
“Against the background of the fact that IPOB is not only proscribed but also designated as a terrorist organisation here in Nigeria, the UK’s decision is disrespectful of Nigeria as a nation.
“The decision amounts to sabotaging the fight against terrorism and generally undermining Nigeria’s security.
“It is not only unconscionable, but it is also inexplicable,’’ he said.
The minister said that there had recently been heightened attacks against security agencies in the South East Zone.
He said IPOB had been fingered as being behind the attacks in spite of its denials.
“For the UK to choose this time to give succour to IPOB beggars belief and calls to question the UK’s real intention.
“If we could go down the memory lane, what the UK has done is like Nigeria offering asylum to members of the IRA before the 1998 Good Friday Peace Agreement,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) had released new guidelines to its decision-makers on how to consider and grant asylum applications by members of Biafran secessionist groups.
In the guidelines, asylum is to be granted to “persecuted” members IPOB, a group that Nigeria had designated as a terrorist organisation.
Also in the guidelines, asylum is to be granted to the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.
He was reported dead on Tuesday, a day after he won re-election for a sixth term in office.
The Chadian national army confirmed his death from gunshot injuries in a fight with rebels.
The president was commanding his army in the battle against rebel forces in the far north over the weekend.
There has been a prolonged battle in the African country between government forces and the rebel Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT).
The unrest had escalated in recent days as anti-government fighters approached N’Djamena, the capital city.
Azem Agouna, a spokesman of the Chadian army, said in a broadcast that the late leader “breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield”.
Aged 68, Déby was one of the longest-serving presidents of Chad, having stayed in office for about 30 years.
He came to power in a rebellion in 1990 and won a sixth term on Monday in a controversial poll boycotted by the opposition.
He was known to often lead the country’s troops in battle against rebel forces and Boko Haram insurgents.
It was his penchant to lead from the frontline that drew him closer to his last breath.
He had been expected to give a victory speech to supporters, but Mahamat Bada, his campaign director, had told reporters he had instead gone to visit Chadian soldiers.
“The candidate would have liked to have been here to celebrate… but right now, he is alongside our valiant defence and security forces to fight the terrorists threatening our territory,” Reuters quoted him to have said.
the US ordered the departure of non-essential staff from its embassy in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, due to fear of armed violence.
“Armed non-governmental groups in northern Chad have moved south and appear to be heading toward N’Djamena,” the US state department had said.
Similarly, the British government had urged its citizens to leave the country “as soon as possible.
The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has released new guidelines to its decision makers on how to consider and grant asylum applications by members of Biafran secessionist groups, TheCable can report.
Asylum is to be granted to “persecuted” members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government, and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
IPOB was formed in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu and is believed to be an offshoot of MASSOB, which was founded in 1999 by Ralph Uwazuruike.
Both are campaigning for the secession of mainly the south-east but also several other ethnic nationalities from Nigeria.
In the just-released ‘Country Policy and Information Note Nigeria: Biafran secessionist groups’ seen by TheCable, the UKVI, a division of the Home Office, directed its decision makers to consider if a person “who actively and openly supports IPOB is likely to be at risk of arrest and detention, and ill-treatment which is likely to amount to persecution”.
According to the guidelines, the decision makers “must also consider if the [Nigerian] government’s actions are acts of prosecution, not persecution. Those fleeing prosecution or punishment for a criminal offence are not normally refugees. Prosecution may, however, amount to persecution if it involves victimisation in its application by the authorities”.
An example of persecution, the UKVI said, is “if it is the vehicle or excuse for or if only certain groups are prosecuted for a particular offence and the consequences of that discrimination are sufficiently severe. Punishment which is cruel, inhuman or degrading (including punishment which is out of all proportion to the offence committed) may also amount to persecution”.
They are also to “consider each case on its facts to determine if the person is likely to be of interest to the [Nigerian] government and whether this is for the legitimate grounds of prosecution which is proportionate and non-discriminatory”.
BURDEN OF PROOF
The onus is on the applicants to demonstrate that they will be “at risk of persecution or serious harm” in Nigeria, according to the guidelines.
In particular, the decision makers are to consider each case on its facts, taking into account:
profile, size, and organisation of the group/organisation to which the person belongs and its activities
whether a person in the UK would wish to continue their activism if returned to Nigeria (if not, why not)
whether the group/organisation has a presence in Nigeria as well as outside of the country and any evidence that it is being monitored by the government
person’s profile and political activities (including those online) and relevant documentary or other evidence
profile and activities of family members
past treatment.
The UK acknowledges that the Nigerian government has a responsibility to maintain law and order, “to prevent and protect the public against acts of violence”.
It said where supporters or members of MASSOB or IPOB “have incited or used violence to disrupt public order, the government may have legitimate grounds to arrest and prosecute those people”.
“However, where the government has arrested and detained persons who, for example, peacefully participate in demonstrations and has then charged them with treason or the person is subjected to periods of detention in degrading or inhuman conditions, such treatment is unlikely to be fair or proportionate, and is likely to amount to persecution,” the guidelines noted.
The UK defines ‘Biafra’ as an area “in the south-east of Nigeria that comprises the states of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra. The area is inhabited principally by Igbo (Ibo) people who are one of the country’s 3 largest ethnic groups”.
EVIDENCE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS APPLICATIONS
The UK, which is a signatory to several human rights and refugee conventions, believes Biafran secessionist agitations are covered by one or more of the following policies:
A person is reasonably likely to face a real risk of persecution or serious harm
The general humanitarian situation is so severe as to breach Article 15(b) of European Council Directive 2004/83/EC (the Qualification Directive)/Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iii) of the Immigration Rules
The security situation presents a real risk to a civilian’s life or person such that it would breach Article 15(c) of the Qualification Directive as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iv) of the Immigration Rules
A person is able to obtain protection from the state (or quasi state bodies)
A person is reasonably able to relocate within a country or territory
A claim is likely to justify granting asylum, humanitarian protection or other form of leave, and
If a claim is refused, it is likely or unlikely to be certifiable as ‘clearly unfounded’ under section 94 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002.
However, decision makers are directly to still consider all claims on an individual basis, taking into account each case’s specific facts.
BVI Channel 1 Online had earlier on published a breaking news that the licence to operate an international cargo airport has been dashed by the minister of Aviation .Before publishing the breaking news ,efforts were made to speak with the Commissioner Of Information – C .Don Adinuba and Governor Spokesman – James Ezeh but both numbers were not available. However ,the Commissioner for information and public enlightenment has just refuted the online news report which has gone viral in a press release, stating that Anambra International Cargo Airport is on course. The press statement reads in full ”As the first commercial plane is scheduled to land at Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport on April 30, 2021, to test-run the facilities at the airport, a faceless group of hired propaganda guns has crafted and posted on the Internet a so-called news report alleging that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Aviation, has refused to give the Anambra State Government a licence to operate an international airport but has rather offered the State Government a licence to run a domestic airport. The scammers attributed the purported decision to the Minister of Aviation, Senator Sirika Hadi, a well-respected captain and administrator. The news report is, of course, false, misleading and mischievous. The report fails to state when the Minister announced the alleged decision, how and to whom. In other words, it fails the basic requirements of a news report. Yet, we are compelled to refute the substandard report because of the anxiety it has created in millions of Nigerians, particularly Anambra people, across the globe who cannot wait to make use of the airport.Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport remains an international airport. It will be commissioned at the appropriate time this year. Like any other airport in the world, it will start with local operations, add regional operations later and finally international flights. Its facilities are strong and built to global standards. The facilities are big enough to accommodate the biggest aircraft in the world. The runway is 5.7 kilometres in length and 60 metres in width, the longest and the largest throughout Africa. Its facilities are the most modern in the whole country, and such pieces of equipment as the fire trucks rank among the most modern in the world. It is the only airport in Nigeria with satellite landing instruments. The implication is that planes can land there any time of the day or night.
The Minister of Aviation has been exceptional in his support for the airport. The people and government of Anambra State could not have asked for better cooperation from the Honorable Minister and relevant agencies under his supervision like the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) whose leadership has never wavered in its praise for the quality of the job done and the commitment of the state political leadership.
A discreet investigation has revealed that the sole reason for the hack writers to falsely claim on the social media the downgrading of Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport is to create a crisis between the people and Government of Anambra State, on the one hand, and the Ministry of Aviation and the Federal Government, on the other, which will result in the postponement of the first flight scheduled to land at the airport on April 30, which is a few days away. The mischief makers will not succeed. The first plane to land on April 30 belongs to a worthy son of Anambra State, Chief Allen Onyema, who operates the only indigenous international air carrier in the country.
True, Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport may be the fifth airport to be built by any Nigerian state government. But it is the only one conceived and built for international operations. It is the only built in just one year three months.
The people and government of Anambra State are proud that the airport has practically been completed without the authorities borrowing even a kobo from any bank anywhere in the world, even at a time of acute global economic crisis which has seen the United Kingdom, for instance, in its worst recession in 300 years. We are also proud that the state government is up to date in meeting its contractual obligations to all the local and multinational firms involved in the project, despite the declining value of the naira against international currencies.
Indeed, the people and government of Anambra State have a date with history as far as the commissioning, operation and development of Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport are concerned. No politically motivated campaign of distraction and derailment against this project can work. Some people are obviously taking partisan politics too far. Certain things should be above politics and treated as sacred even in an election year in the state. Certain politically exposed persons have dethroned reason in the public square in the name of politicking for the forthcoming November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State. Our state must always provide a glimmer of hope in governance in Nigeria, in spite of the inelegant conduct of certain politicians and their age”
Gallant police officers, today, Monday, 19th April, 2021, pushed back unknown individuals that attempted to overrun Zone 13 Headquarters of the Nigerian Police, located at Ukpo, Anambra state.
Zone 13 Police Command Principal Public Relations Officer, Princess Nkiru Nwode praised the courage of the police officers, saying that the Zone is committed to ensuring safety of lives and property at all times. “The command suffered minimal damage but we successfully repelled the attack, and also recovered some weapons from the fleeing assailants”.
A source informed our Reporter that the fire in one of the buildings was started by a petrol bomb thrown from a distance by the attackers, and this spread to cars packed in the vicinity.
As at the time of publishing this, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, neither is the motive known.
All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has cautioned her Gubernatorial Aspirants against unethical activities that might portray the party in bad light .In a statement released to newsmen and signed by Barrister Tex Okechukwu,APGA Publicity Secretary, ”It has come to the knowledge of the national leadership of our great party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) the ongoing unsavoury war of attrition among the media teams of aspirants seeking nomination to the governorship position of the party for the November 6 election in Anambra State.
Information at our disposable points to a deliberate plot by some external forces to cause disaffection within the rank and file of the party to weaken it ahead of the said election.
The veracity of this piece of information could be clearly seen in the desperation of the media teams to undo one another to the detriment of the collective interest of the party.
Considering the danger this situation portends and the undue tension it is causing, aspirants are hereby advised to call their media teams to order without delay.
There is nothing wrong in media teams portraying their principals in positive light, but it becomes condemnable where such activities smacked of bitter rivalry, unhealthy outbursts and resort to name-calling and subterfuge.
The party would not hesitate to evoke the relevant sections of its constitution to deal with anybody or persons – no matter how highly-placed – causing disaffection within the party as we inch toward governorship primary.
We must maintain the ‘Onye aghala nwanne ya’ mantra of our party and do things with love, mutual respect and dignity.
Politics is not a do-or-die affair, but a process, which if diligently applied would promote peace, progress and development.
The APGA administration in Anambra State has performed excellently and, therefore, should not be distracted in any way by the excesses of some politicians bent on fermenting trouble.
We urge our teeming supporters in Anambra State to be on the alert at all times and shun the temptation of allowing themselves to be used by disgruntled politicians to cause tension and strife in the party.
We reaffirm our unremitting resolve to protect the constitution and integrity of the party at all times, irrespective of whose ox is gored” the statement concluded
