ABUJA- Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has expressed readiness to share the podium with President Muhammadu Buhari to debate issues of governance. Atiku who stated this Friday while addressing the 81st National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the party also tasked party leaders and supporters to work hard to ensure victory at the polls.
Calling on leaders and members of the party to imbibe the lessons of the 2015 electoral setback; Atiku stressed the place of reforms in the repositioned PDP, adding that victory is a possibility for the party, if it goes into the polls as one indivisible group. He also lauded the National Working Committee, NWC, for displaying financial transparency in the running of the party affairs. He said: “I am ready to debate Muhammadu Buhari,” he began to the applause of the capacity -packed NEC Hall. “After the convention in Port- Harcourt which was the most credible convention I have witnessed since the formation of this party in 1998, we witnessed a lull. It is time for us to pick up the momentum again. “Earlier this morning, I had the opportunity to be invited by the NWC for the first time in the history of this party.
They showed me details of income expenditure of all the money realised in the convention. I have never seen such fiscal responsibility by any political party. “I said to them, that that has posed a very big challenge should we win and we must win the Presidential election, and we will have to enthrone the best fiscal responsibility this country has ever known or ever seen, simply because our party has given us that leadership. “If we work together, I am convinced without any doubt that this election is for us to win. We have build up so much momentum after the Port Harcourt convention but we also witnessed a lull of the momentum. It is now time for us to pick up the momentum again until we land in Aso Villa. “Yes, we lost elections.
We have learnt our lessons and because we have learnt our lessons, we embarked on reforms. The reform committee which was headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu did an excellent work.” On his part, Saraki tasked members of the party to stay united, adding that the PDP has the experience to bounce back to power in 2019. He said, “The people are with us and when the people are with us, God is with us. “I emphasize that we must stay strong because it is not going to be easy. Let us remember that when we were going for the convention, this room (NEC hall) was vibrating.
“There was tension in the country and people never believed that it was possible because it has never happened where people will go to a primary and come out without even one person saying, I don’t agree. It has never happened even in governorship talk more of Presidential primary. “I have said it many times that APC is not our opponent on the ballot paper, it is the security agents that are our opponent on the ballot paper. “If you talk to 10 Nigerians today, they will tell you that yes your party is popular but they will rig. What does that mean? We must stand, we must stand for free and credible election. We must stand for an election where people have the right to vote.
Election cannot be credible when you have a practice that two days before the election, they will start looking for opposition leaders in their houses to arrest them; that must stop. “And let it not be that there will be no Nigeria after the election and as such we must fight for a free and fair election. He called for reconciliation across states chapters of the party ahead of the elections. “Please let us go and reconcile our states,so that we can all work together and give support to our Presidential candidate, because as I said, our own ambition is small when compared to the ambition of this country.
“People are suffering, there’s poverty in the land, there’s insecurity in the land and as I keep saying and I will keep on saying, you cannot give what you don’t have. What this country needs now is someone that understands what it takes to bring food to the table; a man that understands what it takes to unite Nigeria and provide security. “Let the man that does not have it leave the place and let the man that has it come in and do it,” he added. Speaking earlier, national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus challenged President Buhari to a public debate with Atiku saying, the nation will not accept debate by proxy. “We challenge President Buhari to come out and debate with our candidate.
He should not use proxy, ” he said. He called for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, accusing the duo of plot to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party.
Meanwhile , a mild drama played out at Wadata yesterday just as Atiku was called upon to address party leaders gathered for the 81st NEC meeting of the PDP. Just as he cleared his voice to speak, an unidentified voice from the audience said, “Jubril must go,” to which Atiku beaming with smile responded: “Which Jubril? The one in Sudan or the one in Abuja?” The capacity-filled NEC hall reeled in laughter for close to a minute.
The social media has in recent months been treated to a rumour of the existence of a Jubril, supposedly of a Sudanese origin, in the corridors of power. Prominent members who graced the meeting included governors Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi) and Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) states; Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Gators and ex-Kogi state governor, Ibrahim Idris among others.
Also, the PDP yesterday inaugurated it’s Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja with secondus as chairman while Atiku was named co-chairman. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan is the Director, Media and Publicity of the campaign Council.

A mild drama took place yesterday, at the Anambra State House of Assembly, as the two factional Speakers, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu and Mr. Ikem Uzoezie, struggled to occupy the seat of the speaker.
The convergence of the lawmakers followed the vacation of the order sealing off the assembly premises by the police on Wednesday.
At about 11:00a.m, Maduagwu came into the House Chamber with three members. She sat on the speaker’s seat and left, after a man in suit whispered to her. She walked out, entered her official car and left the complex.
Shortly after she left, Uzoezie came in with seven members and sat on the speaker’s seat and, also, left when the deputy speaker said they should go to the executive chambers for discussion.
However, trouble ensued when Maduagwu returned to the House Chambers and was on her way to the speaker’s seat, when Uzoezie, who was still in the Chamber, rushed and sat on the seat before her.
Maduagwu stood and asked Uzoezie to leave the seat for her, but, her words fell on deaf ears. Their exchanges brought other members to the table.
After some minutes of altercation, some of the members, who felt ashamed, especially the Majority Leader, Jideofor Okoye, urged the members and the two speakers to move to the executive chambers for discussion.
After much persuasion, the two speakers and members present went out of the chambers.
Daily Sun gathered that members of Uzoezie’s faction, which were more in number, yesterday, were in the House to ensure that the Maduagwu faction did not sit as their matter was already in court.
MUTTERINGS over the attitude of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar towards South East party leaders have been squashed following secret meetings between the candidate and the aggrieved leaders, Vanguard has learned.
PDP governors in the South-East and Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, have bought into the Atiku presidential aspiration, following the meetings, Vanguard gathered. They had been peeved over his attitude since his emergence as the candidate of the party. The reconciliation was achieved in one-on-one meetings held behind closed doors between Monday and Tuesday.
The meetings commenced, Monday, when Atiku flew to meet with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State in Enugu at the end of which the governor pledged to work with Atiku and to be fully involved in the campaigns. Following that, the candidate met Ekweremadu at the latter’s Abuja residence where they also reconciled. “They bared their minds and the candidate accepted where he was wrong, and the candidate said that he should be forgiven for any and all errors, and Ekweremadu said that the interest of the party remains paramount. It was a very good meeting,” a top party source who helped facilitate the meeting and one of the early canvassers of the Atiku presidential ticket told Vanguard.
Atiku also met with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Abuja where they also harmonised and made up. The only governor that the candidate did not meet personally was Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, and that was because of scheduling difficulties. Vanguard, however, gathered that the vice-presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi was able to meet with Umahi and that issues have also been straightened out between the two. There were insinuations that Atiku had despised the person of Ekweremadu who is the highest political office holder of the party and had kept the party together until the defection of Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The governors were also peeved that the emergence of Obi as the presidential running mate was made in concert with political players outside the region and that they were not carried along. Despite these concerns, Atiku after the nomination of Obi travelled to Dubai for an elongated stay during which he was said to have prepared for his campaign. On returning to the country, the former vice-president met with South East leaders, but that meeting was boycotted by the political class including the governors.
Following these concerns, some of Atiku’s associates had sought a joint meeting with the Southeast leaders in Enugu, but that suggestion was said to have been shot down for one-on-one meetings with the affected leaders and governors which Atiku adopted.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus were part of the meetings, Vanguard gathered. “I can confirm authoritatively that they are all working together in the same direction. Saraki who is the campaign manager expressed happiness with the outcome of the meetings,” one source revealed.
Peter Obi the former governor of Anambra State anf PDP Vice presidential candidate in his usual manner of taking Nigeria leaders to the cleaners has come up with an undisputable facts.
The Nigerian so called leaders knew that they have failed Nigerians.
Nobody is loyal to Nigeria or committed to her growth, the only thing sustaining Nigeria unity among her leaders is looting, corruption and impunity.
Peter understands the fact that his co politicians are theives and rogues, they have pushed Nigerians to the breaking point where Nigerian will revolt and that will be the end of Nigeria.

The national leadership of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, have been advised to immediately refund all monies collected from political office aspirants for the botched primaries and honourably resign thereafter.
Mrs. Bianca Odimegwu Ojukwu, who made the demand Monday in Owerri, during the seventh Memorial Day celebration, also described the outcome of the APGA primaries as “a rape of all known for democratic principles”.
“APGA national leadership caused havoc in Imo State.
They collected huge monies from aspirants, for the party’s gubernatorial primary. The aspirants looked forward to a transparent primary that never held”, Mrs. Ojukwu recalled.
According to the lady, “APGA national leaders fleeced Imo citizens and ended up handing over the party ticket to a strange fellow, and there is no way every right thinking fellow will not condemn the illicit act”.
She maintained that “the principle of accountability is incumbent on the APGA national leadership to immediately return all monies they collected from innocent aspirants and resign forthwith”.
While saying that the Victor Oye-led APGA “has impoverished aspirants, Mrs. Ojukwu equally expressed regret that those who climbed to power, using his late husband’s name, have not found it expedient to organize her husband’s memorial.
“If APGA must get better, Victor Oye must resign. He cannot insult and denigrate the man who created the platform he is enjoying today and think that everything is well with the rest of us. We shall survive the locust of our time”, Mrs. Ojukwu said.
Speaking also, the protagonist of Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, said that whoever insults Ojukwu, even in his death, has insulted the entire Igbo race.
“From their action, APGA has roundly insulted Ojukwu and nobody should vote for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
APGA is dead in Igboland. Go and tell those who are not here that APGA no longer have our support”, Uwazuruike said.
Welcoming the people earlier, the Chairman of the event, Mr. Yul Edochie, urged Ndigbo to remain united, so as to get to their desired goal.
A couple of local companies in Nigeria export cement and also sell it in local market. The companies generate billions of dollars from limestone (cement) business annually and the generated revenue goes to federal government instead of the states that have the solid mineral. Federal government gives the states peanuts from the revenue generated from limestone business. This explains why states like Kogi cannot pay salary of their workers. The above fraud by federal government of Nigeria is one out of many.
Similar shortchange is happening in all government businesses and in almost all states in Nigeria. The federal government takes our collective wealth and gives states about 10% of generated revenue. This makes it impossible for most states to maintain their old infrastructure, build new ones and social amenities or take care of their recurrent expenditure. “Monkey dey work and baboon dey chop.” The cabals that control Nigeria’s unitary government take over 70% of our common wealth and share among themselves. This must be stopped.
Regional autonomy will end this open looting by the cabals of unitary government. In autonomous regions, states will takeover control of their resources. They will create jobs, generate revenue, take over 50% of the generated revenue, while the remaining will be shared by central government and regional government.
Who will ask for our freedom again? Who shall be in senate and consistently move motions for autonomous regions for ethnic nationalities in Nigeria? We need a Pa Enahoro of our time in senate. A man has been crying like John De Baptist cried in the wilderness. Have you heard his voice?
Join Obumneke Ejimnkeonye Okafor to make the return to regional government possible. Be a disciple of regional autonomy by sharing our messages. You can edit our messages, but keep the main message which is – call for autonomous regions in Nigeria.
Tomorrow’s Daily Breakfast will give us more insights and solutions. You can assist and make more people hear the voice of freedom of Obumneke Ejimnkeonye Okafor on radio and television Daily Breakfast.
A 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, who beat his 65-years-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings, was, yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos.
Justice Daniel Longji, handed down the sentence as he found Banchir guilty of killing his biological mother. Delivering the judgment, Longji said: “Going by the findings of this court, you Godwin Banchir, mercilessly took the life of your mother, Mrs Saratu Banchir, in cold blood. “This sentence is mandatory, as the law states that any person convicted of murder shall be punished with death by hanging.
“The sentence of this court upon you is that you, Godwin Banchir, will be hanged until you are dead, may God have mercy on your soul,’’ he said. It was gathered that the convict was first arraigned on June 6, 2016, charged with culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code punishable with death upon conviction. The convict was said to have committed the crime on Jan. 21, 2016, when he used a stick to beat his mother to death. Banchir in his confessional statement said that he returned from the farm on the said date and found his mother sitting in the compound and when he greeted her, she ignored him. He said that infuriated him and he picked a stick and hit her. In his words:
“I got angry when she did not respond to my greetings, so I picked the stick of an axe and hit her around her ribs. “She fell down and started shouting, which attracted our neighbours who came to beat me up and later took me to the police station.
“I have been having misunderstandings with my mother each time I return from the farm, she doesn’t cook for me on time, and she always quarrels with me whenever I want to bathe with the water she fetched from the stream. “Her actions always annoyed me, I did not know that she was going to die from the beating she received from me.”
