“All Eyes on the Judiciary” Billboard Triggers FG: FG Dissolves Advertising Panel

The Federal Government has dissolved the Secretariat of the Advertising Standard Panel (ASP) over its approval of billboards termed as blackmailing the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal with the title: ‘All Eyes on The Judiciary.’

The ASP is the Statutory Panel under the Council charged with the duty of ensuring that advertisements conform to the prevailing laws of the Federation as well as the Code of advertising ethics of the advertising profession.

A statement by the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, confirmed the dissolution of the panel.

Fadolapo said the Council has also suspended its Director and Deputy Director in charge of Regulations to allow investigations into the issue.

It said: “The attention of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeriə [ARCON) has been drawn to the “All Eyes on the Judiciary” advertisements exposed on some billboards across the country.

The Advertising Standards Panel of the Council also erred in the approval of one of the concepts as the advertisement failed to vet guidelines on the following grounds:

“The cause forming the central theme of the campaign in the advertisement is a matter pending before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Hence, it’s jus pendis.

“A matter being jus pendis and awaiting judicial pronouncement is, by virtue of the Nigerian legal system, precluded from being a subject of public statement, debate, discussion, advertisement, etc.

The advertisement is controversial and capable of instigating public unrest and breach of public peace.

“The advertisement is considered blackmail against the Nigerian Judiciary, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, and particularly the Honourable Justices of the Tribunal who are expected to discharge their judicial functions without fear or favour over a matter that is currently jus pendis.”

The ARCON DG said the Council would set up a committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the “erroneous approval” of one of the concepts of the advert and the breach of the vetting guidelines.

Consequently, the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations have also been suspended. The suspension is to enable an unprejudiced investigation of the issue. The Advertising Standards Panel (ASP) Secretariat failing to diligently exercise its function as the gatekeeper of advertising, advertisement, and marketing communications is hereby dissolved,” he said.

We will Overcome ECOWAS Sanctions- Niger Prime Minister Prays

Niger’s new Prime Minister, Lamine Zeine, has described the sanctions imposed on the military junta as an “unfair challenge” but said the country would overcome them.

On Monday, Mr Zeine, appointed by the junta a week ago, said Niger was interested in cooperation with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“We think that even though it is an unfair challenge that has been imposed on us, we should be able to overcome it. And we will overcome it,” said Mr Zeine.

On July 26, Niger’s military ousted democratically-elected President Mohamed Bazoum. The military suspended the constitution and appointed a transitional government.

Shortly afterwards, ECOWAS imposed sanctions on the new military junta and demanded an immediate return to constitutional order.

It also activated a standby force for a possible military intervention in Niger, after the West African leaders, on July 30, gave the military junta one week to give up power.

On Sunday, the junta signalled its willingness to negotiate with ECOWAS after a Nigerian mediation group of Islamic clerics visited.

France Still Keeping Former African Colonies in Bondage- Activist

Zimbabwe-born medical doctor and activist, Arikana Chihombori-Quao’s viral video which hit airwaves last week evokes the music of iconoclastic Jamaican reggae musician, Peter Tosh. The video explains the rebellion going on in the Sahel against France. In Tosh’s system-bashing, anthem-of-resistance song, a call to action against the evils of colonialism and oppression, the coup in Niger Republic and France’s decades of paternal oppression against French-speaking Africa gets graphic detailing.

His Mystic album, especially the track Babylon, your Queendom is falling, is pregnant with powerful lyricism that is unpretentious against colonial oppression. It calls on black people of the world to reclaim their hearts, their lands, culture, heritage and humanity from the stranglehold of colonizers. Tosh especially chose the oppressive colonial and post-colonial system that underdeveloped black people for censure. He labeled this power structure system that has enslaved and exploited black people in the world for centuries as “Mystery Babylon.”

The concept of white supremacy and its Queen(King)dom is falling, Tosh sang: “Mystery Babylon, your Queendom a falling/Tumbling down/And Rahab, a Ethiopia calling…”

If you call Tosh a prophet, you would not be mistaken. As the lyrics lament white oppression, wrapped in fluid-flowing and danceable tune, Tosh addresses the systematic downfall of Babylon and how Ethiopia, regarded as the promised land of Africa, is rising in rebellion, from its ashes of oppression. After so many decades of sustenance of black people’s oppression from the capitals of oppression of the world, Tosh sang, the Babylonian system is meeting its waterloo as the oppression is coming to an end. He made a biblical allusion to Rahab and then to Ethiopia, the only African country never colonized.

Rahab was the prostitute from Jericho who helped Joshua and his army in the conquest of the city of Jericho and his reference to Ethiopia was a call for the overthrow of white oppressive system in Africa.

Tosh sang effusively in the Jamaican patois with optimism that all that was stolen from Africa and taken to Babylon would be returned after the system’s overthrow: “Gimme back mi gold, mi ruby an mi diamond…sent I sons and daughters from a far off… I said all those that are called of I name…Gimme back mi zebra, mi lion an mi tiger… Gimme back mi land, mi language and mi culture… I said, take back your chink, your roach and mosquito…”

He asked for repatriation of all stolen invaluable possessions which he symbolized with gold, diamonds, rubies, zebras, lions, tigers, land, language and culture, rudely and crudely stolen by stealth by white colonizers.

In the viral video, Chihombori-Quao had appeared on the Eye Gambia, alongside other commentators. She gave a present-day bite to the Tosh song, especially France and French-speaking Africa colonial and post-colonial relations. Former African Union representative to the United States from 2017 to 2019, Chihombori-Quao viewed Africa with the same lens that Tosh looked at the continent’s underdevelopment. This outspoken Zimbabwean, renowned for her caustic review of the implications of the Berlin Conference in Germany in 1885, made some earth-shaking revelations that put the coup in Niger and the rebellion in the Sahel in perspective.

Chihombori-Quao is known for her rave lectures delivered on the outcome of the selfish, self-centered and haphazard partitioning of the African continent in Berlin. To her, that division is responsible for the multiplication of Africa’s problems and why, in the words of Walter Rodney, Africa remains underdeveloped.

“The government of France has significant control over all their former colonies, specifically fourteen of them. When they were giving them independence, they forced them to sign a document which they called the pact for the continuation of colonization. On one hand, they say we are giving you independence which comes out to be political independence but that you have to sign this document… You are going to be independent, but you have to agree to continually be colonized. Two countries said, absolutely not, they (were) not going to sign the document. They are Mali and Guinea. What the French did was that, they entered those countries, took everything that they thought they brought into those economies, poured concrete into sewage pipes and completely devastated the two economies. They did this to let other countries know that if they (did) not sign this document, this (was) the fate that (awaited them).

“The impact (was) terrible. The pact that that those countries had to deposit 85 per cent of their bank reserves with the French Central Bank, under the control of the French Minister of Finance and should those countries wish to request some of those monies – remember they are only left with 15 per cent of their reserves – they have to submit financial statement for the country and if approved, they can only access up 20 per cent of whatever they had deposited year before as a loan at commercial interest rate. The only difference now is the 85 per cent deposits have now been lowered down to maybe 50 and 60 percent but the countries are still forced and required to deposit their bank reserves with the French Central Bank.

Now, picture this situation: you are depositing your monies with France. Should you need some of your money, you get it as a loan at commercial interest rates. Immediately, you have credit with France, but you begin to owe France! This has been going on and continuous till this day. So, combined, the 14 countries are giving to France cash of over $500 billion every year and France takes that money and invests it in its own stock market under the French name… currently, for every 14 billion that France takes out of Africa, by the time they finish investing it in the French stock market, they realize upwards of $300 billion so you do the maths to see how much France takes out of Africa every year.

And France has the audacity to then look at African countries and call them poor. Why would poor African countries give France $500 billion year in year out? But what gets me the most is, how does the world sit back and watch this carnage take place in Africa? Where is the United Nations? This is the body that is supposed to be looking for any violation of human rights. It is my humble opinion that, singularly, what France is doing to Africa is the biggest violation of human rights. Women and children are dying of starvation, youth unemployment and these same poor countries are giving $500 billion to France. It simply does not make any sense and I don’t know how the world can sit back and watch all this unfold and nobody is saying anything. It is unacceptable. It is wrong and we are simply asking France to do what is right, what is just and right with Africans,” she said.

Ahmed Sekou Toure was the president of Guinea who refused to sign that pact of servitude. He rejected the French and its bid to appropriate the wealth and farmland of Guinean traditional landlords. He was famous with the lingo that “Guinea prefers poverty in freedom to riches in slavery” and argued that Africa lost its essence and future during colonization. He advocated that Africa should retaliate by cutting off ties with her former colonial masters and for clinging to the apron of the west as their puppeteers. He also voiced his distrust of other African nations.

The above Chihombori-Quao submission may sound inscrutable, horrific and frightening. Another video, which went viral recently, was of Sierra Leonean-German multi-facetted social entrepreneur, Mallence Bart-Williams. At a Ted event, she explained the chaos and crises in Africa and said that chaos in Africa is orchestrated because of the resources of Africa that are cheaply and fraudulently taken out of Africa. “A healthy and thriving Africa will not disperse its resources as freely and cheaply… which in turn may destabilize and weaken western economies established on the post-colonial free meal system” she said. Affirming France’s yearly collection of foreign reserve deposit from Africa posited by Chihombori-Quao, she said France based it on “colonial debt which they force them to pay.” This, she said, was affirmed by former French president Jacques Chirac who an interview said that “we have to be honest and acknowledge that the big part of the money in out banks comes precisely from the exploitation of the African continent” and that in 2008, Chirac said that without Africa, France will slide down in the ranks of third world powers.”

Another expose has put the animosity against the new military rulers of Niger to the pipeline project that passes through the republic on the way from Nigeria to Europe. The uranium deposit in Niger is also the contention, a mineral that Europe and America have been stealing from Africa for decades. The resistance against the new junta, a regime that has promised to disconnect the stealing and cheap sales of is “the quest to gain back their wealth, the uranium, gold, iron, phosphate, iron and gas and this scares the west.” In this quest to regain their national sovereignty, delink from being a European colony and Russia is backing French-Africa. This incenses the west and America.

This is why the Bola Tinubu-led ECOWAS’s resistance to the revolution going on in Niger and other Francophone African countries is benumbing. Some have alleged that the post-colonial planting of puppeteer governments in Africa, held by the CIA, MI6 and other intelligence services, may just be the explanation. The overwhelming voices in Africa right now are that the imperialists, Peter Tosh’s “Mystery Babylon,” should get out of the continent. If ECOWAS does not listen to the voice of reason and continues to abet America and the west’s continued servitude of Africa, they will be footnotes and flotsams of history when today’s story of their people’s rebellion against puppeteers is told.

BDFCG Warns Against Use Of Force In Addressing Self-determination Issues In Africa

The Biafra De Facto Customary Government (BDFCG) has warned that employing force to address self-determination issues in Africa poses challenges to democratic principles, particularly when it fails to safeguard citizens or uphold the rule of law.

It would be recalled that in his remarks at the second Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit on Niger coup, the Chairman of the regional body and Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, said no option is off the table; including the use of force as the last resort.

BDFCG in a statement signed by its Spokesperson, Prosper Odinga, expressed concern that the recent election victory of Tinubu, who chairs the regional body, was marred by controversies and instances of violence, adding that force and violence seem to align with his principles.

The group advised that in making decisions regarding the use of force, democratic principles such as the protection of human rights, adherence to the rule of law, and accountability should serve as guiding factors.
“The use of force should be proportionate, necessary, and subject to review and oversight by relevant institutions and authorities.”

BDFCG reiterated that if the people of Niger welcomed the coup, it must be given a chance in order to avoid unnecessary, excessive or indiscriminate actions.
“The legitimacy of the use of force is derived from the consent of the governed and the existence of checks and balances to prevent its abuse. In the case of Niger today where the governed evidently are the ones consenting to removal of their elected government officials by the country’s military, it will be very unnecessary for President Tinubu-led ECOWAS to begin to imagine adopting use of force, by all means, as one of their plots to reinstall a revolted government.”

It regretted that the Biafra community in Nigeria, along with other indigenous African ethnic groups, find themselves as victims of an unfortunate policy and approach when it comes to addressing self-determination matters, adding that despite ongoing struggles, the Igbos have continued to face the very challenges that fuel calls for change.

Expressing conviction that Africa’s persisting issues are rooted in the legacies left behind by the colonial powers, BDFCG called for unity among Africans in opposing policies that undermine their welfare, especially those enacted by individuals who serve as pawns for former colonial powers that have continued to exploit Africa’s resources to enrich Europe and America.

Niger Coup: BDFCG on ECOWAS Second Summit.

The Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, made a comment during the second summit on Niger coup held in Abuja on Thursday, August 10, 2023, stating that no option is off the table including the use of force as their last resort. It is worth noting that this is the same individual whose recent election victory was marred by controversies and instances of violence. Force and violence seem to align with his principles.

The Biafra De Facto Customary Government (BDFCG) would like to emphasize to African leaders that employing force to address self-determination issues in Africa has historically posed challenges to democratic principles, particularly when it fails to safeguard citizens or uphold the rule of law. In making decisions regarding the use of force, democratic principles such as the protection of human rights, adherence to the rule of law, and accountability should serve as guiding factors. The use of force should be proportionate, necessary, and subject to review and oversight by relevant institutions and authorities. Therefore, we make bold to reiterate that if the people of Niger welcomed the coup, then it must be given a chance in order to avoid unnecessary, excessive or indiscriminate actions.

The legitimacy of the use of force is derived from the consent of the governed and the existence of checks and balances to prevent its abuse. In the case of Niger today where the governed evidently are the ones consenting to removal of their elected government officials by the country’s military, it will be very unnecessary for President Tinubu-led ECOWAS to begin to imagine adopting use of force, by all means, as one of their plots to reinstall a revolted government.

Regrettably, the Biafra community in Nigeria, along with other indigenous African ethnic groups, find themselves as victims of an unfortunate policy and approach when it comes to addressing self-determination matters. Despite our ongoing struggles, we continue to face the very challenges that fuel our calls for change. We firmly believe that Africa’s persisting issues are rooted in the legacies left behind by the colonial powers.

Colonialism, which spanned several centuries, had a profound impact on Africa, including the imposition of exploitative economic systems, the disruption of traditional governance structures, and the extraction of resources for the benefit of colonial powers. These legacies have contributed to challenges faced by African nations in achieving political stability, economic development, and good governance.

It is, however, the position of Biafra De Facto Customary Government that African People be allowed to take decisive action against corruption. African People must unite in opposing policies that undermine the welfare of the populace, enacted by individuals who serve as pawns for former colonial powers that continue to exploit Africa’s resources to enrich Europe and America. These same powers often return with veiled threats of utilizing force to maintain stability. Genuine and concerted efforts must be made to bolster democratic institutions, foster transparency and accountability, and foster fair and inclusive economic growth.

Regionalism : The Only Way To Save Nigeria – GGM

Good Governance Ministry(GGM) has said that regionalism is the best option for the problem in Nigeria.

According to the group, before Nigeria can be salvaged, it must rid itself of fundamental and structural imbalances like so many other countries like USA, Switzerland,Brazil ,Indian UK , Ethiopia etc.

The Leader of the group – Chinedu Asuzu stated this on Friday while speaking at a Zoom meeting with stakeholders on finding permanent solution to restore peace in our environment.

Comrade Asuzu lamented that Nigeria has passed through difficult moments with various challenges bedeviling the country but added that there is a need for proper cleansing of our political system to guarantee equity , fairness, justice and good Governance .

According to him, “Nigeria must rise above primordial sentiments and ethnic politics. There is a need for a complete overhauling of the structure and system of government. Let the new crop of politicians chart a new course by embracing regionalism as a panacea to salvage Nigeria’s future.

“My stand on regionalism is based on the ideology whereby the federating units are allowed to develop at their own pace and this will encourage competition and production .

“Democracy thrives in a country where the majority of the people have their ways of determining the quality of their lives. Democracy is the best form of government when the leaders place the general good of the people above theirs.

“That is when there is unity, peace and tranquillity in the country. But in a situation where there is prolonged hardship, both economic, social and political tension and insecurity, the purpose of government is defeated.” Asuzu concluded

Military Defense Headquarter Addresses Coup in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Friday said the Nigerian Military has no plan to take over the government in Nigeria.

This is as it revealed that there have been some recent calls from some quarters for the military to intervene in the country’s democracy.

However, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in a statement on Friday assured that the armed forces of Nigeria would not execute any coup as the military is better under democracy.

He further described the call on the military to interfere in Nigeria’s democracy as highly unpatriotic and wicked.

Gusau pledged the loyalty of the nation’s military under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa to President Bola Tinubu, adding that they would not be distracted from their constitutional duties.

The full statement reads: “The Defence Headquarters frown at a report being circulated online about welfare issues in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The report’s call on the military to interfere in our democracy is highly unpatriotic, wicked, and an attempt to distract the Armed Forces of Nigeria from performing its constitutional responsibilities.

“While the leadership of the AFN gives priority to welfare of its personnel however, we detest any attempt by any individual or group to instigate the law-abiding Armed Forces of Nigeria to embark on any unconstitutional change of government in our country.

“We wish to state unequivocally that the military is happy and better under democracy and will not get involved in any act to sabotage the hard-earned democracy in our country.

The AFN under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa is determined to ensure complete subordination of the Armed Forces to constitutional authority under His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will not be distracted from its roles that are well defined in the 1999 constitution (as amended).

“Thank you for your usual cooperation.”

Reasons we Didn’t Purchase Vehicles from Innoson- Otti

Dr Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State has explained why the state government procured security vehicles from outside the country and not from Chief Innoson Chukwuma, Nigeria’s automobile manufacturer.

Otti made the clarification through his deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Nedu Ekeke.

Recall that the former bank chief came under intense criticism after he launched ‘Operation Crush security’ as part of the state government’s efforts to address the perennial security challenges in Abia.

However, Ekeke via a series of tweets on Thursday while making a case for his principal, noted that by the time the security trucks were needed in the state for immediate military operations, Innoson had no such vehicles in stock.

He said, “We have read the comments on Social Media about the Toyota Hilux vans the Abia State govt bought for a special security operation named: Operation Crush.

“We appreciate the feedback; especially as most commenters are coming from a place of love for country and support for the Alex Otti administration.

The administration appreciates, more than anyone else, the need to patronize locally made goods. And this was why we had, upon assuming office, ordered more than 50 units of cars from the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing company. We currently have 20 unmet orders.”

Nedu further disclosed that some commissioners do not even have official vehicles, and the Governor’s official car is yet to be delivered as he still uses his private cars as a sitting governor.

He continued that “The military service commanders in Abia needed trucks for immediate take-off of the special operation and, unfortunately, Innoson had no such vehicles in stock.

“The government could not delay the operation as it places premium on the lives and property of all Abians.

“We are, first and foremost, interested in stemming insecurity in the state, and we want to do it quickly. We were constrained by time and had to go for what was readily available.

“This does not foreclose any prospect of future transactions with Innoson or any other local brand.

“We are open to honest feedback such as the one we have had in the last two days. We will always listen and respond. And even if we disagree with your perspective, we will still respond.”

See Ridiculous Amount Senators Take as Holiday and Enjoyment “Token”

Senators, principal officers got N35m, N50m; Reps N30m, principal officers N45m enjoyment allowance – Timi Frank

Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, called on Senators and House of Representatives members to urgently return the money they have illegally collected from the National Assembly as “enjoyment” and “vacation” allowances.

According to him, his findings revealed that while each Senator received N35 million, principal officers got N50 million each.

Also, while each House of Representatives member got N30 million, their principal officers received N45 million each, reports News Express.

Frank, who made this call in a statement in Abuja, insisted that the primary role of the Legislature is to make laws for the order, security and good governance of the country and not to plunder the till.

He wondered why the lawmakers have not deem it necessary to review the nation’s minimum wage which will benefit the masses in the face of skyrocketing inflation but rather have resorted to helping themselves with funds from taxpayers’ money to catch vacation cruise.

Frank described the attitude of members of the 10th National Assembly as the worst ever to happen to the country saying they appear to be far removed from the harsh economic realities inflicting excruciating pains on the average Nigerian who elected them into office.

Akpabio had on Monday night told Senators that the Clerk to the National Assembly (CAN), Magaji Tambawal, had sent a “token” (money) into their individual bank accounts to “enjoy” their annual “vacation.”

Frank said: “I have been reliably informed that what Akpabio termed token is actually in millions of Naira which belongs to taxpayers.

According to a Senator from the North West geopolitical zone who confided in me, ‘each Senator received N35 million while principal officers got N50 million each.’

“He equally told me that each House of Representatives member got N30 million while their principal officers received N45 million each.

“The Senator said he has rejected his own largesse saying: ‘Allah will not forgive me if I collect such an amount for vacation enjoyment while my constituents are suffering hardships. I will spend my vacation with my constituents in the village. I am not traveling to any other place so I don’t need the money.’

“I know Akpabio and his cohorts will rush to deny this but let them do so with evidence by publishing their bank statements for Nigerians to verify for the sake of transparency. I also dare the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal, to publish the vouchers with which he paid these slush funds into the accounts of legislators.”

Frank who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, however flayed Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo South) for claiming he only received N2 million for vacation enjoyment even as he challenged him to publish his bank statement for Nigerians to confirm whether he told the truth or not.

He reiterated his call on President Bola Tinubu to prevail on the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, to resign his position for illegally and boldly distributing the nation’s commonwealth to legislators on national television and for painting the legislature as the most corrupt arm of government in the country.

Frank also called on Nigerians to rise up and demand Akpabio’s resignation should the President or Akpabio’s colleagues fail to rise up to the occasion.

He lamented that while the Federal Government has been complaining of lean financial resources and begging Nigerians to be “patient” and “wait” for things to improve, Akpabio could afford to dole out money for enjoyment without any thought about workers who have been crying that their minimum wage should be increased.

“They cannot pay common living wage to Nigerian workers but Akpabio’s Freudian slip is a wake-up call for Nigerians to urgently mobilize and take back their country, if the Nigeria Labour Congress fails to take action to protect and defend now impoverished Nigerian workers”, the activist said.

He called on the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other affiliate unions to rise up and genuinely fight for a living wage for Nigerian workers.

If Akpabio can fight for senators and Members of the House of Representatives to get so much for enjoyment, we expect the organized labour leadership to fight for improved salaries, wages and welfare packages for Nigerian workers devoid of the types of compromise associated with past workers agitation,” he said
