Good Governance Ministry (GGM) ,a political Ministry has proposed for a Sit- at – home to protest against potholes and collapsed roads along federal and state highways .
In a Statement released to the Press by Deputy Leader of the Ministry – Comrade Ndubuisi Anaenugwu, the statement reads : ”Elected public officers like Governors ,Lawmakers etc are using the political naivety and ignorance of the people to perpetuate crime against humanity. Citizens are treated like domestic animals waiting to be slaughtered. It is inhuman to allow potholes in highways or any road . In the last one week, about 30 people have lost their lives in two states Viz Lagos and Enugu due to potholes on the express roads .
Many roads have collapsed within and across the States yet Nigeria has abundant human and material resources to fix the roads in shortest possible time.
In the light of this ,Good Governance Ministry is proposing a 2 -days sit at home as safest means to protest against Government insensitive and irresponsibility. Goingforward,Good Governance Ministry will be using all forms of civil disobedience to ensure that State and Federal Government serve public interest. It should be noted that the present constitution of Nigeria is unsustainable and cannot guarantee a productive environment” the message concluded

Nigeria’s secret police; the Department of State Services (DSS) has charged embattled suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele to court.
This comes hours after an Abuja High Court ordered the DSS to either charge the former CBN Boss to court within one week or release him.
DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a statement on Thursday night said: “Sequel to an Abuja High Court Order of today, 13th July, 2023, the Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele has been charged to court in compliance with the Order.
“The public may recall that the Service had, in 2022, applied for a Court Order to detain him in respect of a criminal investigation.
“Though he obtained a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the Service, however, arrested him in June, 2023, on the strength of suspected fresh criminal infractions/information, one of which forms the basis for his current prosecution.
The Service assures the public of professionalism, justice and fairness in handling this matter and indeed the discharge of its duties within the confines of the law.”
The Senate, on Wednesday, launched an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption levelled against officials of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System at various universities across the Federation.
The Senate also resolved to hold an interactive session with the Head of Service, the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Chairman of the committee on Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, and other relevant stakeholders after it constitutes a committee on tertiary institutions
This was a sequel to a motion by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah ( YPP, Anambra South) during Wednesday’s plenary.
IPPIS was introduced in 2007 to administer the monthly payroll of the federal government’s workers in a manner to guarantee confidence in staff emoluments.
There had been disagreement between the Federal Government and ASUU on the preferred payment for Nigerian university staff.
FG insisted on IPPIS as the best payroll for the university system but ASUU rejected and recommended the University Transparency and Accountability Solution as a better alternative.
Since the introduction of the IPPIS, the university body has embarked on several strike actions to show their displeasure with the payroll method introduced by the Nigerian government.
Ubah during the motion noted that since the introduction of IPPIS, over two million federal government employees across 696 ministries, departments, and agencies, including some staff of federal government-owned universities and other tertiary institutions, have been reportedly captured on the IPPIS platform.
He recalled that the use of IPPIS for storage of personnel records and management of staff payroll in Federal Government-owned universities was a thorny issue between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
He further noted that while the federal government insisted that IPPIS remains the best personnel records and payroll management system to be used for the storage of records and management of payroll of university staff, ASUU took a different position, recommending the University Transparency and Accountability Solution as an alternative that is most suitable for universities particularly.
The senator said, “While the Federal Government and ASUU were unable to reach an agreement regarding which of the two payment platforms to be adopted for the management of university staff payroll, recent allegations of bribery, corruption, and delayed capturing and payment of some university staff recruited as far back as in 2020 through the IPPIS has called for urgent investigation of those irregularities because of untold hardship caused to affected university staff and their families.
“In many federal government universities, staff employed as far back as 2020 are yet to be captured on the IPPIS platform and therefore are not being paid their salaries since they were recruited about three years ago.
“Some of the affected staff cutting across many universities have been alleged to bribe IPPIS officials for the purpose of getting captured on the platform.
“The allegations of bribery, corruption, delayed capturing and payment of salaries of newly recruited staff of federal government-owned universities have cast serious doubt on the credibility and suitability of IPPIS as a platform for managing the payroll of university staff as institutions clothed with autonomy for the purposes of teaching, learning, and research.”
The Senate, after debate, resolved to investigate the allegations of bribery and corruption against IPPIS officials at various universities across the federation.
The probe, it said, would also include delayed capturing and payment of staff of federal government-owned universities as well as the status of the disagreement between the Federal Government and ASUU on the use of either IPPIS or UTAS as the preferred payment platform for Nigerian university staff.
The Red Chamber said the investigation would be carried out by its Committee on Tertiary Institutions when constituted.
Senators Adams Oshiomole (APC, Edo North), Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central), Garba Maidoki (PDP, Kebbi South), and Ibrahim Dankwambo (PDP, Gombe North) supported the motion when it was thrown for debate.
The former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to link its voters register with the database of the National Identification Number, NIN, to tackle credibility and transparency issues in the nation’s electoral processes.
He said the singular act is capable of ending the problem of underage voting and multiple registrations among prospective voters in the electoral process.
The former Osun State Governor made this known on Tuesday while presenting the lead paper, “Towards Free, Fair, and Credible Elections,” at the 7th International Conference of the Professional Statisticians Society of Nigeria (PSSN) at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
Stating that the transparency of the electoral process is vital to the sustainability of a nation, the former Osun State Governor is of the opinion that appropriate statistics are key to the entrenchment of accountability; the first step to achieving development.
The former minister said: “I am suggesting a more seamless registration system that will be continuous and terminates only a few weeks before the election, to allow for compilation and printing of cards. This registration should be synced with the National Identification Number (NIN).
“It will automatically eliminate underage voters and the possibility of multiple registrations. More importantly, people should be able to do the registration online, on their own, just like most application processes we have today. They should only go to INEC office for biometric data capture and card collection only.
The second factor in the electoral process is the delineation of voting constituencies and poling units. This should be population based. There is also always chaos on election day as voters will be running helter-skelter, trying to find their polling units. There should be a system of notification or personal check to avoid this confusion.
“Thirdly, it appears for most part that agents of the political parties don’t know what to do on election day and at the polling units. INEC should endeavour to train them on what specific roles they will play in election.
Fourthly, the logistics should be smooth and seamless. In many instances, voting officials will arrive late or without the materials or the machines may just start malfunctioning. Elections should start and end on schedule. Many voters are eventually disenfranchised due to late commencement of voting.”
In Britain, a party founded in February 2015, Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol (CISTA) contested that year’s General Election. Its sole manifesto was the legalisation of cannabis. It had 6,885 votes across the country. It contested the London Mayoral election on May 5, 2016 and finished ninth out of 12 candidates with 20,537 votes in the first round.
“There is also a Legalise Cannabis Australia founded in 1993 with the sole objective of legalising cannabis for personal, medical and medicinal use. It has seven of its members elected across Australia.
“Though I’m not advocating for these ideologies and as bizarre as these may sound to us, the democratic import of it is that the party represents the aspirations and expectations of some people. There are a thousand and one other issues, including secession, expulsion of foreigners, abolition of police and other law enforcement agencies on which parties are formed.
“This is the democratic essence. The space must be created to a reasonable extent to give people the room for the expression of their aspirations. Of course, there will be extreme, unreasonable and unrealisable aspirations, nevertheless, they should have expressions within reasonable limits.
“The process of counting votes and collation of results should be transparent and the rules should be followed, to eliminate anything that can detract from the integrity of the election. In many cases, the election will be smooth, but problems erupt during counting and collation.
“We should avoid the cynical statement ascribed to Joseph Stalin that those who vote decide nothing; those who count the votes decide everything,” Aregbesola stressed further.
ASUU ,Nnamdi Azikiwe University Branch has elected new Executive Officers to provide leadership for University Academic Staff in the next four years. National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has disclosed that the ailing Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is incapacitated.
Adamu stated this at a meeting between the national leadership of the party and APC state chairmen.
Addressing the APC state chairmen, Adamu revealed that the governor was incapacitated and currently hospitalised overseas.
We regret to announce the extreme incapacity of the Governor of Ondo state who we understand has been hospitalised overseas. We wish and pray for him for a speedy recovery,” he said.
The national chairman also said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is consulting extensively before drawing up his ministerial list.
The president has just started. And he is doing his extensive consultation before coming up with his nominees for ministers.
“The nomination of the ministers will come first. They will go through their screening until they are pronounced after they have been submitted by Mr. President. And Mr President will formally appoint his Ministers and swear them in.
“Only after doing that will he disclose each of them to the country to know which Minister is going to which ministry, and how many ministries we are going to have,” he said.
Adamu’s revelation comes hours after Akeredolu, who is also the chairman of South West Governor’s Forum, wrote to the state House of Assembly to extend his medical leave Indefinitely.
The governor, who has been in and out of hospitals, transmitted power to his deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, last month.
He had said he would resume duty this week, but Akeredolu extended the medical leave indefinitely.
It is unclear the ailment that he is battling, but his absence has changed the calculation for the 2024 governorship election.
There comes a time in every human endeavor when moving backwards is as difficult as moving forward. That is just that moment when a person comes to the realization that they had taken a road that ought not have been taken in the first place. But the wise saying has always been that at any stage of a journey in which a person realizes that the wrong road has been taken, the best step to take is backward. Reverse and go back. That seems to be the stage Governor Peter Mbah’s effort to keep his seat as Governor of Enugu State has gotten to, save for the fact that he is not heading these words of wisdom.
With all legal windows closing on him, it beggars belief that he is still hanging in, in a venture that could really wreck his reputation. Why, for instance should he wait to be summoned to testify before the Tribunal, and have himself, a sitting Governor lacerated and eviscerated in Court? This kind of a gamble will only be beneficial if he were on the right side of the law and facts.
For instance, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was dragged before the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yenagoa two years ago. He was on the right side of issues and facts. He was alleged to have forged his NYSC exemption certificate. But both the law, facts, the NYSC and the Department of State Security (DSS) were on his side. At the end of the day, he was exonerated.
Consider, for instance, the case of a sitting senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, currently at the Election Petition Tribunal at the instance of his opponent from the APC. He has allowed the petition against him to linger even when the Ahmadu Bello University, his supposed alma mater, INEC, NECO and even the Principal of the Secondary School in Gwagwalada, where the Senator alleged he attended testified that there is no record of the Senators name in their register. NECO has also disclaimed his certificate at the Tribunal, yet he would not throw in the towel. Whereas most people will shudder at the fact of an individual not throwing in the towel early enough to save his family and people generational opprobrium, others insist that many are not seeing what the PDP Senator is seeing. Whereas the Senator is seeing over 16 million Naira lodged into his account monthly, with several other allowances that will continue to accrue to him until the matter terminates at the Court of Appeal, others are busy bothering about reputation. Reputation to him therefore comes after financial empowerment.
And with Peter Mbah sitting on a security vote of over 600 Million Naira monthly, he might as well have settled for this as his immediate objective. In which case while many expect that he is projecting to run the state for the next four years, his ultimate plan for now is to stretch the issue at the Tribunal up to the Supreme Court in so far as it guarantees him more time to recoup his expenses and even make profit. This is very unfortunate.
Consider that in all these public pretensions and drama at the Election Petition Tribunal, Governor Mbah knows that he forged his discharge certificate. He knows from the depth of his heart that the NYSC is right. With the NYSC having commenced their testimony in the Tribunal last week, one will expect Mbah’s lawyers to begin to make sense and counter NYSC. Instead, what you get is a frenzied and ridiculous shopping for technical faults. The appearance of NYSC is lethal, and their testimonies are fatal. Who could imagine that after listening to such numbing testimonies, the Tribunal, in quest for the truth and substantial justice will be swayed by technical loopholes. Just like the case of Mmesoma in the JAMB forgery scandal, reality dawned on everybody when JAMB went to town with their unassailable facts. The difference is that Mmesoma owned up to her scam, while Mbah will rather be disgraced than own up and resign.
But to the people of Enugu State, the cost of an illegitimate government toying with governance is very high. As Mbah makes his appointments, he knows that in the absence of a miracle, which won’t happen, he will be routed by the Tribunal. Just a matter of time. Then he begins to make mistakes in an attempt to generate drama and deceive the people of Enugu. Look at the appointment of a white man as his Special Adviser on Water Resources under the laughable notion that Enugu does not have water because of incompetent indigenous Managing Directors of water resources. The objective is to get the people of the state to applaud him for appointing a foreigner and to see in such a move as a touch of genius and an indication of seriousness. But two wrongs were consecrated in that move. The first wrong is the assumption that our local engineers have been the reason Enugu does not have water. The second wrong is the export of jobs from a poor state like Enugu.
Strengthening the internal mechanism for accountability and the security of resources for the treatment of water, ensuring a robust budgetary provision for sustainable water management, providing for a productive interaction with multilateral agencies for the finance of water asset and a creative mechanism for the payment for water by the indigenes will cut it. In the absence of these four basics, the importation of a thousand expatriates will be of no benefit in this regard.
The Enugu State Broadcasting Service(ESBS) has over the years, evolved from Eastern Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation(ENBC) through East Central State Broadcasting Service(ECBS), through Anambra Broadcasting Service(ABS). In all these years, it has been run by a constellation of some of the best names in broadcast journalism. We have had Boniface Ofokaja, Nwokolobia Agu, Dr Ralph Ossai, Pete Edochie (as Director FM), Chukwuma Ogbonna and a host of others. The problem has never been personnel. It has always been about funding and government meddlesomness. Broadcasting, both radio and television has never been given priority attention by successive governments while politics remains a primary use of this service by those in government. For this reason, they are not competitive enough for advertising revenue.
And so when Governor Peter Mbah announced his hiring of Ladi Akeredolu of Channels Television as the Managing Director of ESBS, it became clear he is on a frolic of his own imagination, designed to deceive the people. Let nobody get this wrong. Ladi is an accomplished broadcaster who has made his mark and earned his stripes. But he will perform no magic for ESBS. The magic will come from consistent funding and the creation of a business culture in the management of the organization. This will imply that government gives it a free hand to operate both its news and other content which will attract listeners and ultimately advertisement revenue.
To underscore the veracity of this position, the reader should note that this is not the first time this foreigner gambit was undertaken by the Enugu State Government. Indeed, Governor Sullivan Chime hired Jika Ato, one of the very best in television broadcasting as MD of ESBS. But what came out of it. If the idea failed, it was not because Jika did not rise up to the challenge. It was simply that the leopard could not change its spots. In all this, the state is losing because a rogue government is implementing unbaked ideas to give the impression that something is going on, when it’s all hot air.
When Peter Mbah entered the issue of security, his lack of preparedness opened up his soft under belly. The issue of sit-at-home had been mismanaged by the previous administration. But not to the height of rudderlesness Peter Mbah is taking it to. It has always been Chijioke Edeoga’s position that the problem will be addressed from a multi-pronged perspective in a way that will guarantee results. But in a manner that belies their rogue status, and in attempt to impress, Governor Peter Mbah threw himself at the problem in a manner that has exacerbated it. And this is in spite of the fact that there are models and precedents to learn from.
The Soludo Experiment in Anambra has left a mix bag of experiences. It has been grueling, with a commissioner, among uncountable others, gruesomely murdered, his head cut off and left on a motorway! It has really been bestial and animalistic. The times have been very tough even for a purposive administration like Soludo’s. Now, entering a direct confrontation with these non-state actors will only expose our people to mass carnage and death. They have the capacity to employ a Gorilla approach, thereby stretching the madness to forever. The problem at hand will require a holistic approach by a legitimate government and not a harp harzard and unco-ordinated effort by a rogue regime.
Again, when Peter Mbah ordered the people to dismantle the barricades with which they took their security in their own hands, he exhibited a stark lack of knowledge of the perils and wanton killings which have been the lot of the people. With the police providing no real help in the ceaseless onslaught of criminals, the people had no option than to form their own vigilante groups while erecting barricades which they can relate with. This thoughtless approach to such a serious problem amounts to playing cheap politics with the security of the people. This can never be the approach of the Labour Party under the able leadership of Barrister Chijioke Edeoga.
Peter Mbah can save the people of Enugu State from all these by simply resigning and withdrawing from the tribunal.
Governor Peter Mbah has revealed that Enugu government is exploring the option of dragging both the instigators and enforcers of violence and illegal sit-at-home order in the State before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague to answer to the crimes against humanity, noting that in the 21st Century, nobody should be allowed to stay in one part of the world to enjoy life while causing deaths and pains in other parts.
Mbah in his maiden media chat with Enugu-based newsmen and media executives at the Government House, Enugu, at the weekend, declared that the state is wining the war against sit-at-home enforcers and would never take orders from people he described as murderers and enemies of Igbo land.
He said there was no way Enugu could become the premier destination for investment, living, and tourism or its economy grown from $4.4 billion to $30 billion when the people were still talking about or taking orders from faceless persons outside our state, insisting “we cannot be defeated by evil and we must not allow that to happen”.
The governor urged concerted efforts by the media community and Enugu people against scaremongering and fake news, which he described as the latest resort by the sit-at-home promoters, having lost their capacity to inflict havoc on lives and property as was previously the case due to reenergised security measures applied by the government and security agencies since the ban on Monday sit-at-home in the state.
The Governor urged the newsmen to be professional in their duty by seizing the opportunity presented by investigative and modern journalism to fact-check and verify the authenticity of information before feeding them to the public.
The truth is that we have won the actual war against sit-at-home enforcers and murderers out to destroy Enugu State and Igboland. We have unleashed the security resources on them and they have been thoroughly defeated and discomfited.
“Because they no longer have the capacity to unleash terror on lives and property of Ndi Enugu, that is why they have now resorted to scaremongering, peddling of fake news, and all manner of dramas to instil fear in our people and control their minds and actions.
“We practice democracy. We can never allow murderers and terrorists to dictate to us. We must not allow those who do not have the mandate of the people dictate for us how to live our lives; when to go out; when to close our businesses and when to sit at home.
“What we are facing now are media terrorists using the social media to instigate fear and peddle fake news. We must not allow them to succeed. It is totally unacceptable. Nobody can make you inferior without your consent. These hoodlums are very few compared to our numbers. We cannot be taking instructions from hooligans.
“We must not allow those without our mandate tell us how to live our lives. We have a duty to ensure that we flush them out in all directions. They have no stake in the affairs of our state.
“It is, therefore, our responsibility to re-orientate our people to start coming out and going about their normal businesses. We have a duty to kill fake news and counter it with our superior pen and media.
“Therefore, as we are leaving here, we must begin to tell our people the right thing; that nobody can make them inferior without their consent; that we can’t be cowed by the cowardly acts of a few people,” the governor declared.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mbah urged the people not to be deceived by those who use the name of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a cover for their criminalities, noting that Mazi Kanu had since expressed his displeasure at the enforcement of sit-at-home and consequent havocs on Igbo land.
“As media people, it is important you educate our people for them to know that these sit-at-home enforcers are not after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s welfare or freedom. We must be able to separate the two.
“Ndigbo are on one page in demanding for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. I have also seen the President over this matter. Other Igbo leaders have made the same demand and we are not relenting.
However, the so-called sit-at-home enforcers are mere criminals and our people must face them frontally”
The governor also disclosed that technology had already been deployed to guarantee safety of residents, saying there were no longer hideouts for criminals in the state.
While responding, members of the media community lauded the efforts of the government in stamping out insecurity, offering suggestions on how to bring lasting peace and security to the state.
They expressed their readiness to collaborate with and support the government to achieve its plans for the people, promising that they would play pivotal role to ensure the people return back to work through their reports.
Gaius Chibueze, popularly known as Bitcoin Chief, has slammed Nigerians criticizing Mmesoma Ejikeme for forging her JAMB result. Chibueze, in a tweet insisted that his company voiceoftheeast and himself would still have to sponsor Mmesoma Ejikeme despite forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.
The Bitcoin Chief who blamed Nigerian elected officials, said if Nigeria didn’t celebrate elected officials who rig elections, young people won’t forge certificates.
He wrote: DEAR ALL!
*“I will still sponsor Mmesoma. Whether she agreed or not that’s not my problem.
Suppose illegality was not celebrated openly like INEC swearing in a President who didn’t win the Elections, A president with a Forged Certificate and no trace of Primary to University Education, If Nigeria didn’t celebrate Elected officials who rig elections, etc. Young people won’t see a reason to forge certificates and be celebrated openly. While we address this, we must look at the entire society.”
If you want us to accept, celebrate and defend a President who rigged Election with Forged Certificate, we must also not destroy Little Girl’s future with a forged certificate.”
“I will personally call her and explain to her that JAMB numbers don’t define how far she can go in life and next time she shouldn’t bother Forging one.” I and our company @voiceoftheeast will still SPONSOR her!
“Whenever we are ready to clean the mess society has become we will start with public officials many who are elected with forged certificates. They are the bad examples People like Mmesoma are copying from.” “She has made a mistake and she must be corrected and shown the right path for next time!.
