Anambra: CAN Of Worms In Anambra Tricycle Union- Keke Union

The bane of trade unions in Nigeria and the fundamental issue with economic growth and development in Nigeria is lack of enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Again, the Spectre of overbearing attitude of a structure of strangulation by both legitimate and illegitimate taxation has continued to stunt these businesses. All these have equally created an atmosphere that breeds lack of accountability, transparency, adherence to procurement procedure and due process.

Summarising this abberration into a practical state of fraud has become prevalent in the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN); the Anambra state branch in particular where an amalgam of these socio- economic abberrations have become the order of the day. To perpetuate this strangulating self imposed, Mafia style regulation calls for an advocacy to redeem and retrieve the TOAN from this gestapo style extortion.

In specific terms, this business platform which has provided the youth of Anambra state over 70% employment opportunity has become a source of frustration to the same young people who are involved in the tricycle business in Anambra state. A particular case is that of Nduka Obiora whose livelihood and life have been threatened by this consistent and sustained extortions from the excos and their thugs. Lamentating his situation, Obiora says over taxation and lack of consideration for TOAN riders have narrowed their source of livelihood and has rendered them to a state of penury.

“I can no longer feed my family and send my children to school because of several several levies imposed on us by the TOAN excos and Government appointed motor park coordinators who have employed the use of thugs to coerce us into payment.”

For record purpose, the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria is an affiliate of Trade Union Congress ( TUC) with Augustine Apeh as national chairman and Sylvester Obiora as the Anambra State Chairman. The union, from the state level is structured into branches at the Local Governments and Units which are under the branches. Elected executive members are to run the affairs of the union at all levels. This means that the Association is well structured in line with democratic principles which includes having and adhering to a constitution, conducting periodical elections, proper accountability, etc. It is not a department of State but of course , a union to protect the interests of legitimate owners of tricycle business and not for thugs and cult boys.

The following questions and concerns of members therefore, beg for answers and attention.

Does the organization have a written constitution? If it has, the members need to see it.
Were there elections into executive positions of the branches and units anywhere in Anambra state? If there were, when and where were these elections conducted?
Is the union only for Tricycle Owners or riders as well? Note that some State chapters have changed their name to accommodate this issue. For example, what we have in Ogun State is RIDERS AND OWNERS OF TRICYCLE ORGANIZATION ( ROTO).
How much is generated by the various branches monthly and how much goes to the Government as IGR?
What is the official bank details of the organization? Can the transaction details be displayed for accountability purpose?
Who are the true branch and units chairmen in Anambra State? Can we see the list?
These few questions, answered satisfactory will chart a new course for the union.
To worsen the situation, there isn’t any explanation or certainty as to whether or not the multiple taxation by this self- styled mafia exco get to the government of Anambra state accordingly. Again, one can discern this corrupt practice from the decadent and obscene display of affluence and flamboyance by individuals who are supposed to manage the affairs of the union. Glaringly, this is evident in some of the properties and exotic display of cars, houses and other apparels of wealth of the excos at the expense of their members. This sorry State of affairs have left the ordinary members of the union to their fate. It has equally rendered the well meaning citizens of Anambra State who are contributing significantly to the economy of Anambra in a state of absolute helplessness. A tricycle rider from Awka North who prefers to remain anonymous due to obvious reasons bewailed:
” There is too much illegality in this Anambra State Keke union. Now let us look at this. How can a commissioner of transport in a state appoint branch chairmen of TOAN? Awkuzu branch, Dunukofia branch and Onitsha branch knows what I am saying. This person has been moved from Commissioner for transport to commissioner for commerce and industry, yet his boys are still there controlling these branches with impunity. Our State chairman is an educated somebody but he chose to use thugs to molest us. The levy collected from Keke riders in Anambra state daily is up to 3 million. This has been collected for years without account. If you complain they will use cult boys to deal with you; even kill you. The same thing is happening in Awka South. Even Onitsha down to Abagana. Everywhere in Anambra State. Blood shed everywhere. See them…they don’t ride Keke any longer. They now drive Lexus Jeep. They have buildings in the same place with high class people like the House of Assembly Speaker. I won’t mention any name but they know themselves.”

There have been several attempts to draw the attention of anti-graft agencies like EFCC and ICPC to these activities yet, this corruption of monumental scale have continued to have its way, due to the overbearing influence of this gang of extortionists. Obviously, they are using their stolen wealth to buy protection from the long arm of the law. Several attempts also, to draw attention of the Anambra State Government to this unfortunate incident through the media and petitions have largely met with resounding deaf ears and silence. Governor Willy Obiano holds the union in high esteem. He has severally granted tax holidays to the members in recognition of their immense contribution to the economy of Anambra State (even though the excos went ahead to extort in the name of levies.) The Governor, through the ministry of transport gave the Union palliatives during the Covid 19 pandemic. But where did these items end? Your guess is as good as mine.

We therefore call on the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Willy Obiano, the Governor elect, Prof. Charles Soludo, Trade Union Congress (TUC), TOAN national and even Dr. Chris Ngige, a one time Governor of Anambra State and now Minister for Labour and employment, relevant agencies of Government and other regulatory agencies to as a matter of urgency beam their searchlight into these corrupt practices before they totally escalate into an economic quagmire for the state and the transport sector in general.

ASUU Strike: A SELF DECEIVING COUNTRY CALLED NIGERIA, And WHY WE HAD WANTED OUR OWN PROF TO BE THERE !!

Twenty-one senators currently receiving pensions from government as ex-governors and deputy governors.

The current senators who once served as governors are Ibrahim Gaidem of Yobe, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano, Kabiru Gaya of Kano, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Theodore Orji of Abia, Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa, Sam Egwu of Ebonyi, Shaaba Lafiagi of Kwara, Joshua Dariye of Plateau Jonah Jang of Plateau, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto, Ahmed Sani Yarima of Zamfara, Danjuma Goje of Gombe, Bukar Abba Ibrahim of Yobe, Adamu Aliero of Kebbi, George Akume of Benue and Isiaka Adeleke of Osun and so on*

*The former deputy governors in the Senate are Ms Biodun Olujimi of Ekiti and Enyinaya Harcourt Abaribe of Abia. Danladi Abubakar Sani served as the acting governor of Taraba state.*

*Many former governors are also in Buhari’s Cabinet as Ministers. This includes: Ngige, Fayemi, Amaechi and Fashola (SAN)*

*In Akwa Ibom State, the law provides that ex governors and deputy governors receive pension equivalent to the salaries of the incumbent. The package also includes a new official car and a utility vehicle every four years; one personal aide; a cook, chauffeurs and security guards for the governor at a sum not exceeding N5 million per month and N2.5 million for his deputy governor.*

*In Rivers, the law provides 100 percent of annual basic salaries for the ex-governor and deputy, one residential house for the former governor “anywhere of his choice in Nigeria”; one residential house anywhere in Rivers for the deputy, three cars for the ex-governor every four years and two cars for the deputy every four years.*

*It is alledged that in Lagos, a former governor will get two houses, one in Lagos and another in Abuja, estimated at N500 million in Lagos and N700 million in Abuja. He also receives six new cars to be replaced every three years; a furniture allowance of 300 percent of annual salary to be paid every two years, and a N30 million pension annually for life.*

*This is the reality for all the 21 ex govenors and deputy governors who are currently serving as senators. This same is also true of ex governors who are now serving as Ministers.*

*NOW I ASK:*
*How many years did these guys serve their states as governors and deputy governors? Is it more than 8years? Is that a reason to be entitled to pensions for life?* *Even if they are entitled to pension for life, must it be so outrageous?*

*As if that is not enough: HOW on earth can any public servant with conscience collect salaries and allowances as a senator or minister, and still have the audacity to claim pensions equivalent to the salaries of a serving governor in Nigeria?*

*IT ISN’T ROCKET SCIENCE. ???*

*Once you are elected a senator or appointed a minister, you must forfeit any pension accruing to you from government at any level until you vacate office. This should also apply to senators collecting military pensions like former Senate President David Mark.*

*Yet these senators are in the Senate that is inviting the current finance minister to discuss the recession of Nigeria’s economy. A senator pockets approximately 30 million naira monthly as salary and allowances. Our “honourables” are not interested to make laws that could restructure our country into economically autonomous federating States/Regions to save the country from sectional agitations that is threatening to destroy Nigeria. The sad and hopeless situation is that the rest of Nigerians are busy arguing based on party, ethnic and affiliations while these enemies of state continue to rape us.*

*Do you know that it costs tax payers 290m Naira yearly to maintain each member of our National Assembly in a country where nothing works & 80% of population earn below 300 Naira a day ? A working day earning of a senator is more than a yearly income of a doctor; it’s more than the salary of 42 Army generals or 48 professors or 70 commissioners of police or more than twice the pay of the US President or 9 times the salary of US congressmen.*

*It’s high time the country had a referendum on those outrageous salaries of Senators, House of Representative members and other political office holders.*

*If you are seriously against the looting of our commonwealth in Nigeria, in the name of democracy, you can let this piece go viral by sharing it with as many of your contacts and groups too!

Anambra Fish Villages: State Assembly To Summon Agric Commissioner Over Shoddy Job

The Anambra state House of Assembly Committee on Economic Planning , sustainable Development and Donor Agencies has expressed worry over the poor quality of work done by contractors handling the construction of six hundred fish ponds , hostel blocks and farm houses in Aguleri and Adazi Nnukwu communities.

To this end the committee says it may be inviting the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba to appear before the State house to explain how his ministry expended the One point Five billion naira agricultural loan received from the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2020.

Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Ebere Ejiofor who spoke shortly after he led other members of the committee to oversight some of the projects awarded by the state government.

The law makers threatened to call for the revocation of the contracts following the slow pace and poor quality of work done in the two communities visited.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) launched guidelines for the regulation of the Private Sector-Led Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme (P-AADS), in order to boost private sector staple food production, industrial raw materials and support food security, job creation and economic diversification in the country in 2020.

The apex bank said in the bid to address food security and youth unemployment challenges across the country, the Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme (AADS) is to engage 370,000 youths in agricultural production, in collaboration with state governments.

In line with this , the Anambra state government had applied and collected one point five billion naira for the sole purpose of fish and rice farming in some local government areas across the three senatorial zones of the state.

Contracts were awarded through the state Ministry of Agriculture for the construction of three hundred fish ponds in Adazi Nnukwu in Anaocha local government area to the tune of seventy five million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira and another three hundred fish pond in Aguleri, Anambra East local government area to the same amount of seventy five million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira.

Contract was also awarded for the construction of fifty bed capacity hotel each in Aguleri and Adazi Nnukwu communities to the tune of one hundred and thirteen million five hundred and five thousand naira.

Farm houses , entrance gates, perimeter fencing, and generator houses was also awarded for the two communities with a total amount of one hundred and twenty two million, one hundred and seventy nine thousand, two hundred and eighty five kobo.

A document made available to the House committee by the Ministry of Agriculture, also showed that forty one million , seven hundred and sixty three thousand naira was also awarded for the construction of industrial boreholes to serve the two fish farm ponds.

Hon Ejiofor who represents Anaocha Constituency One in the state assembly, expressed displeasure over the work on ground which he said was not commensurate with the amount so far released to the firms.

He regretted that the sum of three hundred and twenty six million , one hundred and thirty six thousand, six hundred and three naira had been paid to contractors, out of five hundred and ten million , three hundred and twenty thousand , two hundred and eighty five naira being total sum of the projects in Aguleri and Adazi Nnukwu.

“This is a total failure, as there is nothing to show that this amount of money has been released.

“Look at Adazi Nnukwu site, only one hundred and fifty fish ponds have been done and it is poorly done.

“The work is not durable. They are using red mud to plaster walls of the generating house while that of Aguleri fifty bed hotel is still at foundation, and yet millions of naira have been released as claimed by the Commissioner for Agriculture.

“I think we will invite him to come and explain how such amount will be released with little or nothing to show on ground,” Ejiofor fumed.

Another member of the committee, Hon Emmanuel Nwafor representing Orumba South constituency, described the quality of work as substandard and called for the revocation of the contracts which he said was in the best interest of the masses.

“From what we have on paper, they said forty percent of the work has been completed but what we are seeing here , the 300 bed capacity hostel is still under the ground.

“They have not even come to the DPC level, so I believe the Commissioner for Agriculture should be summoned so that he can answer some certain questions.

“We require the Commissioner to give us details of what has been going on.

“This project is supposed to have been handed over to the people of Anambra state but look at where we are,” he said.

In an interview, the Managing Director , Anambra state Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Agency FACDA , Mr Emeka Iloghalu described the projects as well thought-out government project but however expressed worry over the delay in the completion of the youth friendly initiative.

According to him, “FABDA is supposed to be the consultant to this project.

FABDA made the concept, design and structuring of the project and according to the guideline of the CBN, the project management team was set up by the governor of Anambra state and all the work was done.

“We ought to have finished but at the moment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Honorable Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary are in the best position to provide the details of why this project is still at this stage,” he said.

Our correspondent spoke with Mr Chukwudi Okosie, Site Supervisor for CIVIL CREST Engineering Services Ltd, one of the contractors handling the construction of the fish ponds in Aguleri, Farm Houses, entrance gates , fencing and generator houses in Adazi Nnukwu and Aguleri, who said though he does not have the details of the amount so far received, the project would be delivered in the next four months.

“I don’t actually have details for the amount of money that has been released, so I can’t compare if work on ground is up to the money but I believe we have been doing well.

“Our challenges were during the rainy season and the road was too bad that sometimes we got stuck, and trying to come down here was a problem.

“At times, we won’t even do any work, getting materials and bringing workers here is the main challenge we have. “Secondly, the nature of this place, the floor was so bad that we could not get materials through especially at the back where we needed to put fence,” he lamented.

Why ASUU Is Always Going On Strike- Dr Amoke

About 2 weeks ago, a friend visited me in my office and while we were discussing, he said he will love to be a lecturer. He is currently working in a good FG establishment with a relatively OK salary. He has worked there for about 10 years. I don’t know what his salary is, but I asked him about the starting salary for a graduate and he said it’s about N220,000 per month. I was like wow! That’s not a bad monthly salary for a starter and he said yeah. Then, I told him that coming to academics is not a bad idea but that as a friend, he needs to know a bit about it before making a decision.

So, I told him that if he should leave that job for a university lecturing job, and since he has got no MSc degree yet, he will be employed as a Graduate Assistant (GA) with a starting salary of about N95,000 per month. Is he prepared to drop from close to N300,000 to N95,000? He was like that is unbelievable, you are underpaid. And I said that is not all. While you had been getting a promotion after a specified period in your organisation, in the university you won’t be promoted after employment till you get a Master’s degree.

I continued. As a GA you will have to enrol in a master’s program. There is no research grant for staff in training, so you may have to save your salary or take a loan to do the MSc research. As staff in training, you are expected to finish within 3 years. Whenever you are done, you will be upgraded to Assistant Lecturer to earn about N118,270 per month.

As Assistant Lecturer, you enrol for a PhD. There is still no PhD research grant except you are lucky to get a TETFund scholarship. If you aren’t lucky, you save part of your salary for the PhD research which you are expected to finish within 5 years. It could take a longer time.

3 years later you are expected to have published 1 journal paper or gone to conferences to present 2 papers from the research you did with your salary to be qualified for promotion. If you don’t have that, the years you have taught do not matter, you will have to wait until you meet the said requirement. If you succeeded, you will be promoted to the rank of Lecturer II with a starting salary of about N129,724 per month.

3 years later you are expected to have published 3 journal papers with conference papers from the research you did with your salary to be qualified for promotion to Lecturer I. If you don’t have that, you will have to wait until you meet the requirement irrespective of the years you have taught. If you succeeded, you will get a salary of close to N160,809 per month as Lecturer I.

The next promotion after another 3 years is to the rank of Senior Lecturer. To qualify for this rank, you must have obtained your PhD with at least 6 journal papers in recognised journals and 4 conference papers. Without meeting the waiting period, PhD, and the publication requirement, you won’t be promoted no matter the number of years and number of students you have taught. Note that you will do the research with your personal fund and pay for the publication with your personal fund. As a senior lecturer, you will have a salary of N222,229 per month. That is the salary of a starter in your organisation in same Nigeria.

The promotion to the rank of Reader (Associate Professor) will come after 3 years and after meeting the research and publication requirements of 10 journal papers and 5 conference papers, PG supervision, etc. That earns you a salary of N277,179 per month. Then you become a Professor 3 years later after meeting its own research and publications requirement 15 journal papers and 7 conference papers, PhD supervision, etc., to earn
a salary of N332,833 per month.

With the increasing number of students, loads of script to mark, teaching does not count for promotion but the output from the research that is not provided for. You save your salary to earn a promotion. No book grant, you buy books for yourself with your salary. Nigerian public University lecturers are perhaps the only workers that use their salary to work to achieve the criteria set for their promotion.

I told him that if he should join the academics now, it will take him the next 12 years at least, to become a Senior Lecturer to earn the salary of a starter in his present organisation. And that since FG thinks the lecturers deserve no pay rise, it will take him the next 15 years of serious academic and research output to earn his present salary in his present organisation. Meanwhile, he will have to fund all that with his salary for that 15 years.

I asked if he still want to be a lecturer and he was mute. He was like this is bad and not fair. Then I said, when you see us in class teaching with all smiles and doing our best, it is not because we have a good salary and working conditions, but because we love the job and try to manage the little we are receiving to get the job done.

This is the life of the academic that you do not know. Their life may look glittering but it is not gold.

The poor welfare and work environment is telling on the quality of the output from the university. Some lecturers, especially the younger ones, are already getting pissed off and leaving or planning to leave. So, how long can we sustain this? Everyone keeps saying every lecturer should have a side hustle and stop complaining. That will be the worst thing to happen to Nigerian universities. Some of our colleagues with side hustle just come to teach and leave to manage their side hustle. You can ask the students the impact of such a lecturer on them. You don’t want to have a university where lecturers just come to teach and leave for their side hustle. A university is not designed that way.

President Buhari, Adamu Adamu, Nasiru El-Rufai in 2013/2014 gave a detailed explanation on the several reasons why ASUU is always declaring strike actions. Adamu Adamu’s articles on why ASUU is always on strike were something else. As a matter of fact, I have never seen a comprehensive article like El-Rufai’s write-up in October 2013 that he titled: For those who no do not understand “why ASUU is on strike”. Go back and read their words and listen to their videos and stop behaving like you need a thinking cap.

ASUU fight is for the survival of the system where you want your child to come for a degree program. We have helped the state governors to destroy public primary and secondary education. You have a choice to take side with the FG towards the destruction of the remnant of the education system or join the fight to save the system. The choice is all yours.

GEOMETRIC POWER TAKES OVER ABA ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION AREA

Abuja: Finally, Aba Electricity Distribution Area has been handed over to Geometric Power Limited, making it the 12th Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria

The company which has the capacity to generate and distribute 24 hours electricity is expected to stimulate industrial and economic activities in the area.

The hand-over ceremony was done by and at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) in Abuja and was witnessed by officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, the Geometric team and representatives of the Federal government.

The asset was handed over by the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) through the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) at a brief event in Abuja.

This latest development has been seen as a great achievement for Nigeria’s power sector and would ensure a more efficient electricity supply to Aba city and its environment.

Experts said this development is seen as a great achievement for Nigeria’s power sector as the $500 million Geometric/Aba power plant has the capacity to produce and distribute about 141 megawatts (MW) of electricity in its first phase, with new distribution lines, four new sub-stations and three rehabilitated sub-stations.

Each plant is to produce 47 MW of power, supported by a 60 MVA per transformer. The power plant is to be powered by gas and so the company has built a gas plant at Shell company flow station at Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State and laid a pipeline spanning 27 kilometres to the power plant at Osisioma.

It will be recalled that on May 11, 2004, the Federal Government, the now-defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and Geometric Power Limited (GPL) entered into and executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under which GPL was granted the exclusive right to construct a 3 x 35 MW open cycle gas turbine power plant and designated sub-stations in Aba, Abia State, which would generate electric power for distribution by Aba Power Limited (APL) to residential and commercial customers and to industrial clusters in a ring-fenced island in Aba.

The government, NEPA and APL executed a lease agreement on April 28, 2005, for the distribution of power to the ring-fenced residential and commercial consumers in Aba. By the terms of the agreement, NEPA assigned its right to distribute electric power in the ring-fenced area of Owerri-nta, Osisisoma, Ogbor Hill, Factory road and Port Harcourt road in Aba and also leased its distribution facilities within the contract area to Aba Power Limited.

A supplementary agreement was made on August 31, 2006, between the Federal Government, represented by the minister of power and steel, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Enugu Distribution Company (EDC) and Geometric/Aba Power Limited. EDC and TCN were substituted for NEPA as parties to the lease agreement of 2005 and assumed their respective obligations.

Recall that Geometric Power Limited had been involved in a protracted legal tussle with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), the successor company to Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Enugu Disco over the ABA Electricity Distribution Area.

The present management of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation for having the courage and political will to do the right thing after many years of unwarranted legal battles.

Anambra Guber Election Petition Tribunal Begins Sitting In Ilorin

The Anambra Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday commenced sitting in Ilorin.

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Balikisu Mohammed, has Justices Edem Akpan and H. O. Oyanjimi as members.

After its formal inauguration at the Kwara Sharia Court of Appeal complex, the tribunal commenced the pre-hearing process in respect of the 13 petitions against the victory of APGA’s Charles Soludo, one of which was later withdrawn.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as the winner of the Nov. 6 and 9, 2021, gubernatorial election in Anambra.

One of the remaining 12 cases is a petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the poll, Sen. Andy Uba.
Uba and the APC are questioning the election on the ground that it was marred with irregularities that contravened the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Justice Mohammed, however, granted the respondents time to file their responses and adjourned to Feb. 21, for hearing of preliminary applications.

Nnamdi Kanu is incarcerated, We can no longer take Orders from him – Simeon Ekpa

Simon Ekpa, the self appointed disciple of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu has declared that they will no longer take orders from their leader.

JOURNALIST101 recalls that Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Security, DSS ever since he was captured in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria in June 2021.

Ekpa who has been in a serious face-off with the highest decision making organ of IPOB- Directorate of State (DOS) in a tweet on Tuesday said their struggle has entered a “liberation phase”, thus won’t be deferring to Kanu, who’s incarcerated for orders.

He wrote: “We have entered the liberation phase of Biafra Nation & we are not taking orders from our leader who is incarceration.”

Our duty is to do everything to secure his unconditional release, and to restore and liberate Biafra from Nigeria. Our freedom from Nigeria is nonnegotiable.”

Obviously overwhelmed by the backlash his earlier tweet is receiving, Ekpa who had said the struggle is now on ‘Auto pilot’ quickly made another face saving tweet in an effort to explain what he said earlier.

Those who do not understand this message, what it simply mean is that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not be held responsible for the actions of Biafra people as we have entered the liberation.

“So, the order of the liberation of Biafra and to secure his release can not be used against him.”

SP Nkiruka Nwode- The Face Of New Nigeria Police Force

Police officers in Nigeria have in recent times come under the eye of the people owing to the unhealthy and unlawful attitude of some security personnel towards members of the public.
This played out in the recent harsh tag End SARS which resulted in the destruction of public and private structures across the country and killing of some security personnel.

This action introduced a divide between the people and the police as each saw the other as an enemy and threat .
However while all these were happening, some police officers took it upon themselves to lead by example by exhibiting high professional attitude in their relationship with members of the public.
One of such Officers is SP N Nwode , the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 13 Ukpo, Anambra state.

Just recently she was promoted to the rank of an SP alongside few other senior personnel who the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the Zone described as lucky people .

Ever since Princess Nkiruka Nwode was promoted, several high ranking individuals and groups have been taking their turns to commend the IGP for recognizing the professional conduct of the ZPPRO, which according to them, will no doubt spur her to even aim higher .
One of such groups is members of Road 26 Ngozika Housing Estate , Awka who came in their numbers to commend the amazon and image maker of the police in the zone.
According to their spokesperson, Sir Henry Udoye , Princess Nwode has indeed impacted many lives through the way she attends to issues brought to her table an even the way she interacts with people on the streets.
Sir Udoye said if majority of the police officers across the country could behave like Nwode towards the society, there won’t be any need to embark on protests but rather the people will help the security agents to fight crime in full force.

Another resident , Mr Silvester Offodìle said through her smart dressing ,attitude, and professionalism in handling of matters of public interest, SP Nwode has changed the perception of many about the Police Force in Nigeria.

NWS INS

In an interview, the Founder of an NGO, ABU foundation, Mr Maduabuchukwu Attah described her as a woman with good heart who intervenes in many matters with the sole interest of peaceful resolution of issues without monetary attachment .

In her response , the Zonal PPRO, SP Nkiruka Nwode thanked the people for recognizing her efforts towards rebranding the image of the Police both at work and in the estate where she lives.
She reiterated her commitment to even become a much celebrated corps with obedience , loyalty and dedication to duty.
The people who came in their numbers later presented a large portrait photography to Nkiruka Nwode in recognition of her dedication to service.
