Sunday Ogboho Opens up In Benin Court

M What Sunday Igboho told judge in Benin Republic – Lawyer

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has denied claims by the Nigerian government that he was involved in trafficking in arms or inciting violence.

His lead counsel, Ibrahim Salami, made this known in an interview on Tuesday, stating that Igboho told the judge that he was put on a watchlist by the Nigerian government for fighting against killer herdsmen.

Salami had in an interview with BBC Yoruba explained that Igboho is being tried for fresh charges bordering on illegal migration, dubious connivance with immigration officers and an attempt to cause civil unrest.

The PUNCH had reported that Igboho appeared in court last Thursday and Monday after he was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, by Igboho and his wife were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Republic of Benin on their way to Germany.

When questioned by the judge, the lawyer said, “Igboho explained that what was said about him are false.

“He explained that he did not do anything illegal in Nigeria. He clarified that Nigeria has never charged him to a court or jailed him for any offence, he was never arrested for any offence or invited to Police Station.

“Igboho said he never had any criminal record in Nigeria. He told the judge that the Nigerian government was after him because he was defending the Yoruba race against killer Fulani herdsmen.

“He said that he ran away from Nigeria because the government was after his life.

“He was asked when he got to Benin, how he got in and how long. Igboho replied that he left Nigeria on Sunday, got to Benin on Monday and attempted to leave Monday night to Germany before he was arrested.

“The judge asked him where he stayed, who drove him and how he escaped security checks. He replied.

“What is surprising is that the judge said he was not arrested because he committed an offence. He said he breached Benin rules and he should be investigated.”

Anambra 21: Soludo Will Contest Nov 6 Anambra And Win – Sen Victor Umeh

On Apga Anambra state Candidate issue , Sen Victor Umeh speaks on Ait’s Jigsaw……..

…On 31st May 2019,Apga conducted a national convention at Awka after  Chief Victor Oye wrote to INEC and gave the commission date ,time ,venue as stipulated in section 85 as regards APGA Nat convention which INEC came and monitored and Victor Oye and Labaran Maku were reelected as APGA national chairman and Secretary respectively.
“On 20th April 2020,Ichie  Benjamin Onugbolu went to court challenging the leadership of Oye and the convention that produced him and on 18th Nov 2020 ,it was affirmed at a court that Chief Oye was the Nat.chairman of Apga and the court validated the convention that produced Oye and Maku.Nobody challenged  It in appeal court as  INEC continued dealing with Oye.

How can INEC within six months jettisoned a judgement not appealed ?

…There is no questioning of who the chairman of Apga is .The person that INEC put his name as APGA candidate ,Hon Umeoji knows who the chairman of Apga is because he bought form from Oye at APGA Nat. Secretariat Abuja whom he recognized as his nat.chairman but when he was screened out ,he went to one Jude Okekes who is not in line of succession for primaries .He is in House of Reps and obtained his form in 2019 from the same Oye led Apga leadership.

…Apga conducted primaries at Awka on June 23rd monitored by INEC and Gov Obiano ,the leader of the party was there.Bot members were there too and we all voted .Soludo won and his name was submitted to Inec which was accepted because Oye followed all the process for primaries and was given INEC access code to upload the particulars of Soludo and his deputy Dr Onyeka Ibezim.
…On July 2 ,INEC uploaded Soludos name and duly acknowledged him as the candidate of Apga for Nov 6 Anambra guber election .INEC ought to have published the name of Soludo on 9th July as stipulated in section 33 sub section 1 which states that the commission shall publish the name of a candidate given to them after 7 days but they didn’t only to accept a kangaroo judgement from Birnin kubi ,Jigawa state on July 16th and without studying the full judgement published the name of Umeoji
…The judgement from Jigawa wasn’t even a declaratory judgement and there was no place in the judgement that the judge asked INEC to stop dealing with Oye as the national chairman of APGA. Neither Oye nor APGA was joined in the suit and Inec has never faulted the leadership of Oye since 2019.
…INEC monitors the activities of political parties and keeps records of their Nat.officers .Jude Okeke is not in the list of the nat.officers of Apga that INEC has been dealing with for the past two years neither is the plaintiff in the Jigawa suit Rabiu Garba in the list .
…INEC did not give Jude Okeke  access code to Inecs portal to upload  the particulars of any candidate but Oye ,so what is Inec that said they were neutral trying to achieve ?

…Soludo will contest Nov 6 Anambra guber election with Apga ticket and I’m sure of that .

Appeal court ,Kano division will sit tomorrow and I have no doubt that the court will throw away Jigawa judgement and ask Inec to publish the name of Prof Charles Soludo

Breaking: Nigeria will collapse if Buhari Remains in Power till 2023- Northern Elders

The Northern Elders Forum has advised the next political party that will take over the helms of national affairs to prepare itself for a very difficult assignment of fixing the country.

According to the forum’s spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the President Muhammadu Buhari’s ruling All Progressive Congress would have completely wrecked Nigeria by 2023 with the growing insecurity and economic woes.

Baba-Ahmed stated this during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, while also blaming the nation’s ruling elite for the failure of the country.

He said the country’s current challenges were not just as a result of banditry and kidnapping activities but also leadership failure.

He said, “What are you going to do with 2023 because between now and 2023, APC would have completely wrecked this country? You are going to take over a country that has been completely destroyed by a party that has been substantially produced by the PDP and how are you going to fix this country? What’s your blueprint for what happens to Nigeria in 2023?”

Nigeria has been experiencing a series of security threats ranging from terrorism, banditry, militancy, cultism among others in several parts of the country.

The country has been ravaged by terrorism for more than 10 years – a menace which has claimed the lives of over 36,000 people and forced hundreds of thousands to be homeless in the North-East.

The Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) split from the jihadist group Boko Haram in 2016 and has since turned a dominant threat in Nigeria, attacking troops and bases while killing and kidnapping passengers at bogus checkpoints.

On March 1, the insurgents razed a United Nations humanitarian compound in the town of Dikwa after dislodging troops, killing six civilians.
Nigeria’s jihadist violence has spread to neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger, prompting a regional military coalition to fight the insurgents.

Buhari Can’t Secure Nigeria, He must Resign- Gumi blows Hot

Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his inability to secure the country from criminals, which makes the blood of innocent lives to flow in the country, IgbereTV has learned.

Gumi added that the same advice he gave the erstwhile president, Goodluck Jonathan, would be given to his “own brother” who appeared to be less democratic even than Jonathan.

The Islamic scholar made these revelations as he addressed a Muslim gathering as seen in a video by SaharaReporters on Tuesday.

Gumi said, “During the Jonathan era when blood was flowing, I criticised him because he was not doing enough. Why I blamed Jonathan with blood in his hands was because Boko Haram were putting bombs everywhere and the government was not doing enough.

“Because they killed under your regime, you’re responsible for that matter, if you have done your best, I can say Allah can forgive you, but if you are relaxed, no Allah cannot forgive you.

“So, the same thing now; the bloodshed now is more than the bloodshed during Jonathan’s regime. So, now, you judge yourself to be fair. Our religion is a religion of fairness. We are fair to ourselves. During Jonathan, when blood was flowing in churches, mosques, and streets, I said let him resign because he could not control it. He could not handle it. I said resign with immediate effect.

“When people are dying everywhere, and the President and governors are attending wedding ceremonies. That’s what I mean by I don’t care. It is either if I’m true to myself. As I called for the resignation of Jonathan, I should call for the resignation of President Buhari. With immediate effect and the government papers (media) should carry it also.

Even Jonathan as bad as he was, he was more democratic. When he saw there was a problem, he relinquished power and he said I don’t want blood,” Gumi said.

Gumi said he had two options either which to apologise to Jonathan or to ask Buhari to resign. He said he was not left with a third option, insisting that Buhari should resign for not tackling insecurity.

“Now, I have one or two options. If I cannot tell my own brother what I have told this man, then I should take an aeroplane from Abuja to Jonathan and say forgive me for castigating you in public. Either seeking an apology or castigating the President; there is no third option,” Gumi added.

Breaking: Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Adjourn to oct 21 as DSS Failed to Provide him in Court

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Monday, failed to produce the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu before the Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial.

When the case was called up around 11:09am, Government lawyer, M. B. Abubakar, blamed Kanu’s absence in court on what he termed as “logistical problems”.

Abubakar, while acknowledging that the matter was slated for hearing, told the court that he was ready to proceed in Kanu’s absence, adding that he has three witnesses ready to testify.

The Prosecution however sought the court’s direction on whether the matter could go on, considering that the High Court has commenced its annual vacation.

He argued that it would be impossible to proceed with the case in the absence of a Fiat from the Chief Judge of the High Court.

On his part, Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor told the court that the life of his client was in danger.

Ejiofor told the court that he had been unable to have access to his client for the past 10 days.
My lord, speaking from the Bar, I got it on good authority that my client has been taken away, outside the jurisdiction of this court”, Ejiofor added.
He equally argued that it would be in the interest of justice for CJ of the court to issue Fiat for the trial to go on during the courts vacation.Meanwhile, trial Justice Binta Nyako noted that the case could not go on in the absence of the Defendant.

“I am also worried why the Defendant is not here. The first step in a criminals matter is to provide the Defendant in court. He is not here.

Though Justice Nyako acknowledged that she could not proceed with the case without Fiat allowing her to sit as a vacation judge, she made an order, directing the DSS to grant Kanu access to his lawyers.

The judge also ordered that Kanu must be produced before the court on October 21 which is the next adjourned date for the matter.

About 30 lawyers, who were allowed into the courtroom as early as 8am, have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their client for the trial that was slated for 9am.

Cameramen, who were initially allowed into the court to take background shots, were asked to leave the courtroom on the ground that the trial judge was about to come.

However, as at the time of this report, neither the judge nor Kanu has entered the court.

Breaking: DSS Barred Top Media Houses from Airing Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial

The Department of State Services has given accreditation to only 10 media organisations to cover the trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu.

Mr Kanu’s trial resumes on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged treasonable felony among other charges following his arrest and extradition from a yet-to-be-disclosed country.

The media organisations accredited are Daily Post, ThisDay, Premium Times, The Nation, Daily Independent, The Herald, National Television Authority, Television Continental, African Independent Television and Channels Television.

Some of the high-profile national dailies barred are PUNCH, The Guardian, Vanguard, Daily Trust, Tribune, Daily Sun, The Cable and Daily Times.

The DSS did not give reasons for its action which legal practitioners have described as illegal as it is a public trial.

Meanwhile, Kanu’s lawyers have urged IPOB members and supporters to be well-behaved in court during Kanu’s trial.
